Yes, he was approached and asked if he could mentor the girl. That's fine. But he wasn't going to go easy on her. She was a seventh year for gods sake. She was either just about to be an adult or was an adult already. It was just common sense to treat her as if he were going to treat other adults.

And in this case, yes, with respect, but also like he would duel others. "I have tasked Raizel, a second year Gryffindor who has done sportingly in my class, and has dueled before, at least, according to the tales I have been told by my own son, to watch this duel. Maybe one day he will want to be a moderator, and I will be there to cheer him on, to cheer you on Amadea." The Astronomy Professor said, as he took his Ebony wand out of the wand holster of his jeans.

He took one final look around and then calmly looked back at the seventh year. "Are you sure you want to do this? I know some rather terrifying spells. If you truly want to do this, then be prepared to be hit with these spells."

Octavius had a pensive look on his face as he looked at Raizel. "Right then. As you wish. We shall duel."

It wasn't long before he had turned around in the Duelling room and had stood towards the end of the mat facing the girl. He bowed, his arms to his side. "May the odds be ever in your favor."

This sure was unexpected. While Raizel had no troubles in watching over duels now considering that she had done it before, getting tasked to watch over one between a 7th year student named Amadea Campbell and Professor of Astronomy, Octavius Baird was something that she hadn’t seen coming her way. Really, the only plans she had was to get some practice in and moderating a duel between a student and a professor wasn’t one of them.

Still, how many times do you get a chance like this? A chance to see up close what an experienced duelist and a professor at that, can do against someone who is almost on equal footing considering that they will be graduating soon and about to enter the adult world? Probably not that many but who knows. The only thing that Raizel knows is that she won’t let that opportunity pass. An aspiring duelist, that’s what this Gryffindor is and aside from that, she wanted to see what spells these two have. While she may not be the one dueling in this, she could still learn a thing or two from them just by watching. Would it be fun if she gets a chance to do something like this in the future though? Well, it would be nice if it could happen sooner but she doubts that.

The Gryffindor girl gave both of the duelists a wave of her hand as soon as Professor Octavius had introduced her. Right, Clark is his son, the one that she had duel before. Setting that aside, it seems like both of them are now ready to start blasting each other with spells. The tension was high along with her excitement to see how this duel will go. A smile appeared on her face as she raised her hand once she had taken her place. “Let’s get this duel started!” She said with a grin. “A student vs. a professor. Now this will be fun.”

And as soon as Raizel said that, spells went flying from both of the duellists' wands, spells that the Gryffindor girl haven't seen before considering those were spells that's way beyond her current year. It was an amazing sight. She was truly grateful for this opportunity to see these spells being used so close.

A cord was conjured up by Amadea's spell, wrapping itself around the arms of the astronomy professor in an attempt to lock his movements. It's a huge advantage if your opponent couldn't cast any spells against you after all. The cord tightened around Octavius arm but before the spell could truly bind him, he had managed to send out his own spell but unfortunately for him, it had went anywhere but his intended target.

𝓐s she steadied herself to begin the duel, Professor Baird gave her some words of wisdom as well as one last chance to back out. Amadea was a woman of her word, though, and backing down was not something she was about to do. She said nothing in response, partially because she was not sure what to say to the Professor, and partially because she was so nervous she felt like she couldn't properly articulate any coherent sentence.

The first round of the duel began, and Amadea focused on her target, waving her wand and commanding, "Fulgari!" The vines squarely hit the target, wrapping around the Professor and holding him into place. She let out a sigh of relief. At least her first spell had been successful; if everything else went downhill from here at least she could hold onto the fact that the first round had gone off without a hitch. The Professor's own spell that had come flying her way was evaded by the Hufflepuff; she darted out of the way just in time, missing the effects of the Offendo spell.

As with all duels, there was no time to recover and regroup as the next round began immediately. She stayed steady, knowing that she was at an advantage for this round considering that Professor Baird was bound and unable to cast...unless he had wandless magic, which was something Amadea had not considered. Well, she would not let her defenses down and would stay on alert, ready for whatever was to come her way.

A long moan sent a shiver down his back. He was disappointed in himself, as the professor. As he made the proper wand movement for the spell meant to trip others- the trip jinx, he knew he said the incantation right. But, that must mean he poorly targeted the casting. This seemed to be the most unfortunate part of his day. But what difference would it have made if he would've been able to make Amadea trip?

He still ended up having cords binding his arms. He was not able to cast spells, the restraint was too tight. He couldn't wiggle his arms much to even try and loosen up the restraints. "You know, in real duelling, I wouldn't be complimenting you on your wonderful spellcasting. You have executed it well. Good job. I would be proud of myself too for such a beautiful result."

Compliment over, and the man had to figure out what he was doing then. What was he going to do about the cords? He needed to take it off so he could resume with the duel and be a wizard- so to speak- in duelling. Ah, he knew what was next. He was going to be hit with the next round of spells.

Owled

How this duel will turn out, no one knows exactly. Despite being a duel between a professor and a student, both duellists are almost on par with each other making it rather unpredictable. One would say that Professor Octavius Baird has the upper hand considering how he is more experienced but from the looks of how this duel is going, that doesn't seem to be the case. 7th Year Hufflepuff, Amadea Campbell turns out to be quite an opponent. Her first spell for this duel had successfully found its way to its target, rendering Prof. Baird unable to use spells.

Try as he might, Prof. Baird's strength wasn't enough to snap the cord that binds him and it had only made it worse. His struggle was followed by a tightening sensation from where he is binded, like a snake trying to strangle its prey. One won't be surprised if that one leaves a mark on the skin. His pain, however, doesn't end there.

Fire related spells had always been Raizel's favorite ever since she had learned about them. In duels, she had seen them being used a lot and she was always fascinated by them. While she was anticipating for these spells to come forth during this duel, there was one that she truly wanted to see.

Confringo, the blasting curse.

And just her luck, she'll be able to see it with Amadea casting it on the poor binded Prof. Baird. A brilliantly casted Confringo made its way towards the busy professor. He was too caught up in his thoughts of escaping his bindings that he had little to no time to react to the incoming spell. The blasting curse had hit the floor just below him, causing an explosion that would have thrown one off of their feet but the professor remained strong. Injured, but strong.

𝓐madea let herself smile slightly as the professor praised her for the action in the first round. "Thank you." Of course, this was not a regular duel and because she was looking for feedback, she appreciated the kind words. She would not let it get to her head, though. That was something that Amadea had seen before: someone becoming too cocky for their own good and sabotaging themself. She would not let that happen; she had to remain focused and composed.

Therefore, the second round commenced and she focused on properly casting her spell. "Confringo!" she commanded, waving her wand in the proper 'Z' motion. Of course, she was not aiming the spell directly at her professor (if she happened to cause him to explode, that would be a terrible mishap and she would surely get expelled). Instead, she aimed close enough for him to receive the brunt of the damage from the explosion, which, to her luck, is exactly what happened. While it felt slightly cruel to continue bombarding Professor Baird with spells while he was bound because of her previous Fulgari cast, she knew that in a real duel, sympathy was only a weakness. She had cast Fulgari for a reason: it was to give herself the upper hand. And now she had to capitalize on that while she could; soon enough, Professor Baird would be out of his binds and would prove to be a formidable opponent. Amadea was prepared to face him, but she wanted to give herself as much of a head start as she could.

Sadly he was still trapped with the cord wrapped around his wrist. Maybe he needed to become just a tad bit onger but maybe that wouldn't be a thing that would work out for the professor. Yes, it was a bit obvious he was a bit weaker than most his age, but he never intended on the continuous moments of lifting weights. He had thigh power but not arm power- simply because every day he goes up and down the astronomy tower on a regular basis, though, more than others.

He knew what was doing despite whatever attacks were going to be made against him- but the question is- how the hell would he get the restraints taken off? And then an explosion took him by surprise. "HOLY SHIT!" Octavius yelled in complete shock and had a tone of fear in his outburst.

"That was really good Amadea, but holy crap you scared me! Maybe that's a good tactic if you want to consider making your own type of playbook one day? There is no official duelling playbook- like Quidditch- but you could make it for you, all special and unique in your own style."

Back to trying to figure out how to get the restraint off.

Action: owled

Amadea hesitated for a moment there. Whether it's the guilt from bombarding the helpless professor with the blasting curse or perhaps, there was just something about the professor that the Hufflepuff couldn't tell about him. Still, that moment of hesitation had cost her, which just made her readable even for the busy Astronomy Professor who is struggling to get his bindings off which allowed him to avoid her spell but not without any damages.

Octavius can feel his bindings growing tighter the longer it stays there and he knows that he couldn't fight back with it. Aside from that, he is open for any attack from his opponent which he needs to look out for. Just his luck though, his opponent paused, giving the Astronomy professor enough time to gather his thoughts and react to the Blasting Curse that was sent his way once more. The bindings that hold him broke once he mustered the strength to pull them off just in time to shield himself from the flying debris that the spell Amadea casted had caused.

With those bindings off, Octavius can now fight back unless Amadea still has a couple of tricks in her sleeves just like the last one. Octavius is looking a bit beaten but he is still in this duel while Amadea remains full of energy, giving the professor quite a challenge.

To quote many people who have endured a lot in their lives and managed to find a breakthrough; "Finally!"

He finally got the dang cords off! There was nothing he wanted more than to finally feel like he wasn't being held back, bound.

"Amadea, that was a damn good cast! Good job. However, whatever comes your way, I cannot promise will be easy to break out of or to evade." Octavius said, a tone in his voice demonstrating the art of being both impressed and concerned.

If Amadea was that good- good enough to defeat a professor- does that mean that she could become a auror in the future- and it was a dangerous field too.

"Amadea, whatever you do, promise me you won't get hurt in the future- no matter the path you take in life- because life will throw curveballs and hardballs at you."

And finally the man bent his wrists and shook it all around before readying his stance for the next attack against the Hufflepuff. "You know, I wish my son could've been here. He would've loved to watch this. As a matter of fact, I think he'd be cheering for you actually." The professor stated, kindness in his voice.
