Arachnophobia at its worst
[ september 17, 2023 ] ♥ outfitShe hated, absolutely hated the long walks to the owlery. It was damp and dark and dreadful and dreary and dull, and to make matters worse, there were always those stupid spiders that kept popping up every now and then, hanging from the ceiling on a cobweb or devouring a disgusting creature with its even nastier fangs. Xin shuddered at the mere thought.
Oh, talk of the devil! A rather small spider crawled onto the girl's shoe, and she shook it away with a small yelp that was successfully concealed beneath her hand. Thank goodness this was the only one she noticed up to now. With every step she took up the ancient stone stairs, the girl could faintly see light pouring out from an opening. Finally, the heavenly place of the Owlery was coming into view.
It was no easy feat to clamber up the tower, but when she did, the girl felt rather accomplished and managed a weary yet proud smile. Hands clutching her aching ribs, she panted and wheezed, the rather lengthy walk was taking a toll on her.
Xin had never been the most athletic person in school. Although highly skilled at kick-boxing and various martial arts, the girl was quite frail after the covid 19 pandemonium back in Shanghai. The sturdy, well-built, powerful girl who had been so full of energy was slowly but surely breaking down. She had never felt so weak and feeble before.
Whatever.
The girl rolled her eyes at her tactlessness and entered the large circular stone room, which was rather chilly and droughty, with the cold breeze blowing threw the windows that had no glass in them. Just as she was selecting the perfect and cutest owl for the job, a tangle of black yarn on the birdbath caught her eye. It was rather noticeable, the black on the white marble.
Only it wasn't a twist of yarn.
Oh no it wasn't.
Webs, black webs made by a spider.
A spider.
THERE WAS A SPIDER ON THE FOUNTAIN!
A particularly big spider tarantula suddenly appeared out of thin air and bared its disgusting fangs at the unfortunate little girl. All it took was a glimpse of the cluster of evil eyes and Xin let out a high pitch shriek that bounced off the walls and rattled the window frames. Dropping whatever she was holding crashing onto the floor, Xin looked on the verge of tears as she stood frozen in place, petrified. It is as if she has retreated inside of herself; instead of being here in the Owlery, she's watching in the same way she watches television. It's as if the sounds are arriving in her brain from far, far away...
It took some time for her soul to reemerge, but when it did, the girl didn't waste a second. Plunging her hand into the depths of her robes, withdrawing with a pine wood wand, she shouted “Immobulus!” and a bright explosion of light shot out of her wand.
It missed terribly.
To make matters worse, the bloodthirsty monster was evidently wanting revenge, as it made a lunge at the small girl and landed on her head. She screamed, a bloodcurdling scream that the whole school must have heard. With big fat tears leaking out of her eyes like a rushing river, she tried desperately to shake the beast off.
Which only worsened the situation.
Now, the spider was tangled inside her hair and there was no way to get the creature off. Tears stinging her eyes and blurring her vision, Xin faintly saw a tall boy walking towards her.
Or perhaps it was just a hallucination...
Oh, what a nightmare...
