You’re not feeling homesick, are you?

the day has gone by so fast, a endless routine that happened everyday. She got out of bed, she got ready, had breakfast, attended classes and so, yet why did she feel so down..? She felt like a boulder was weighing her down, like her mood was fragile, threatening to unleash her anger at anyone or even worse, tear up. cicely would hopefully cheer up. she couldn’t concentrate in lessons, zoning out many times and just lacking brain juice. She was usually cheerful and concentrated in lessons, she didn’t know what was wrong with her. A few people had asked if she was okay and she responded with either a yes or made an excuse about feeling tired. She didn’t want people to feel sorry for her, let alone worry for her.
She was fine, yet every time she thought, her thoughts always returned to her home, where her beloved stepfather was, and her (cicely couldn’t believe she would say this, her mother wasn’t the best) loving mother. She always went back to remembering her house in London, the fun memories. For the first time in her life, she was feeling homesick. She never used to feel like this, because she was always at home. Then she’d feel homesick and she’d feel the lump in her throat, she would swallow hard and blink quickly, an attempt to stop her from bawling her eyes out. As soon as lessons finished, she gave a good cry in the lavatories before camping out upstairs.
The common room became too crowded after supper so she took refugee in the great hall, not a lot of people were there, the majority had gone upstairs. She sat down at the almost empty hall and began to think, gazing into the distance. How could she cope? What should she think about? What distracted her? For the first time in her life, she felt miserable. she curled her fists, narrowing her eyes. She wished this haunting feeling would just go away already! She didn’t have time for this, she had things to do, such as reading an interesting book in the library, or concentrating on important subjects! She was struggling im potions, she needed to get better at it.
She didn’t want to bother Allegra or Zach, she really didn’t want them to worry about her, after all, she didn’t want to look like a crybaby. There wasn’t anyone in her house that she felt close with, this was hopeless. Cicely’s lip trembled and she blinked quickly.

cicely was so worked up she didn’t even realise someone was approaching her. With a hand on her forehead, she was gazing in the distance until she felt someone tap her shoulder. She froze, heart pounding before she quickly turned around. Her heart dropped. It was Allegra. One of her best friends. She had just showed Allegra her weakness: crying. This gave Cicely déjà-vu. Corridors filled with people, laughing, three girls stood before a girl on the floor, who was crying and had tomato sauce all over herself. One of the girls standing took a photo of the girl and everyone laughed. Cicely shuddered as the painful memory came back to her, she was the girl on the floor. Crying. And everyone was looking at her, crying. Allegra’s voice pulled her out of her spiralling and she turned really red as Allegra asked Cicely if she was alright. Part of her wanted to say that she was fine, but the other part wanted her to vent to Allegra, but she didn’t know what to do. She couldn’t just ignore her.
“I’m not crying.” that turned out a bit harsher than she intended it to and she winced. Why was she being so mean? Allegra didn’t deserve her as a friend. “I’m sorry…” she mumbled. “I just feel.. homesick..” she looked away, cheeks red. She was old enough to be independent yet she still cried when she missed her home? Pathetic! What would Allegra think of her?
