Summer Love
George was angry. All the time. He didn't have any idea why. He couldn't find a good reason for the feeling, but nonetheless it was overwhelming. Was this just part of being a teenager? He thought back to the several 'Understanding Your Growing Body' story books his mother had mailed to the school that he had fed to the fire in the common room. No part of them had ever covered the nagging feeling that seemed to boil up in the back of your skull at the mildest provocation.
In truth, he had a lot of reasons to be angry. Two boys who he had adored for years had finally decided to make their advances moments after George had dedicated his heart to his current beau, Swedish champion Felix Kolbeck. His exams were fresh in the back of his mind. The international broom races loomed, the self-imposed expectation of victory squeezing him like a vice. Everything - always- seemed to be harder than it had to be.
The points of his teeth pressed hard into his lower lip until he was sure he could taste blood. How was it that he had never learned the spell to do this? A long, crimson thread was pinched between two of the Hufflepuff's dainty fingers, trembling slightly as he lead the tip toward the eye of the needle. Precisely focused. Maneuvers like this were child's play to someone capable of weaving expertly between the swinging tentacles of the giant squid, surely. And yet the thread slid past the needle, grazing it gently. Another miss.
When George was upset, he made a scene. When George was angry, he became quiet. Focused. It was what made him so able to write. For the newspaper, in his diary, or in heated letters to the editor of the Daily Prophet. The intense feelings he had needed a way out, and so he scanned around himself, looking for a target...
And nearby was none other than Felix, his boyfriend. The boy he had even shared a sneaky first kiss with, although George regretted it slightly. He wasn't sure he had been ready, but Felix seemed to think that kissing was the equivalent of shaking hands on the scale of romance, so he gave it a shot for him. Absence was meant to make the heart grow fonder, but George had found himself getting resentful as their exchange of letters had become less frequent. And then Felix had the gall to show up, acting as usual, like there was nothing wrong between them. He was so shallow.
"Do you think you could do that somewhere else?" George muttered, giving a sideways glance to his lover. They had shard another smooch at their reunion... but if absence was bad, being together was torture. He just needed some space, maybe... or maybe he needed to go scorched earth on every single social connection he had and start over as King Jock of the Hufflepuff racing team. It was a lot easier to be tough than to be happy.
