Daffy entered the bookshop, petrified. Everything, absolutely EVERYTHING was full of books.
Of all types and sizes, shapes and colours.
Daffy was amazed.
She would have stared at them for hours, but her mother quickly brought her out of her reverie.
Daffy we have to buy the books for Hogwarts, after you can take a look at the others."
They looked for the books they had to take to their first year at Hogwarts.
They had interesting titles, Daffy thought, leafing through the books they had been made to buy.
She would read them to her heart's content.
Daffy was a great reader. She devoured every book she could find.
When they had located all the books she needed Daffy told her mother
Mom, can I go and look at some other books now?"
OK, but in half an hour I'll be waiting for you at the front door" ," replied her mother.
Yes, Mom," Daffy hastily said, and ran off to the shelves.
She had already been browsing through books for a long time but she couldn't get enough.
She had found two interesting books that she would like to buy.
She reckoned she had about ten minutes left before she was due to meet her mother so she ran to find a shop assistant to recommend a book.
Sorry, what book you recommend me? I like mystery and adventure."
Mmm..."
The shop assistant though a moment. And she went to a shelf muttering names to herself.
You might like this one" ," she said, holding out a book to her.
Thank you, I will take it" said Daffy gratefully

Maeve's mother had a business a few shops down and had left Maeve with her governess to shop for things. Maeve had gotten her books before then but always loved reading a good tome. The excitement for school was undoubtedly there, and though there were more entertaining options, this was one of those expenses she knew her mother would never deny her.

She'd been in an alcove tucking away A Study of Recent Developments in Wizardry in her basket and moved on. She'd been about to ask the assistant for something when she noticed another girl there. Given the timing, and their similarities in age, she felt she was likely a future student of Hogwarts.

"Oh, what book is that? I do love a good mystery," she asked, tucking a long red lock behind her ear as she approached the other redhead. She hated wearing a dress, but at least it had pockets. One of the few truces she seemed to gain with her mother. Eira had wanted her to wear something else, more school-like and emerald. As much as her mother claimed it was the color of the season, it was her way of trying to prepare her for being in Slytherin. Maeve had no desire to walk the halls of Hogwarts in her mother's shadow. Better be any house than Slytherin.

I'm sorry, how rude, I'm Maeve, Maeve Blackmore, she introduced.

Hi, I'm Daphne but you can call me Daffy, Daffy said, smiling kindly at her.
I love reading. I have asked the clerk to recommend a book, I have been saving for this day for a long time.
And she explain to her, I have five siblings and I have seen and accompanied them all every time they went to Hogwarts or here to Diagon Alley and those times I was very excited so imagine now she said.
My first magic act was one very cold winter day when I was 6 years old.
We were drinking hot chocolate and my brother was making fun of me about an embarrassing accident he had with ice cream when I was little.
I was already getting irritated and suddenly not knowing how I turned my brother's hot chocolate into ice cream.
I was so excited, not just because I had gotten my brother to stop bothering me (which he did too). But because he knew for sure that he would be able to go to Hogwarts,
explained Daffy.
I am a girl with a strong but kind character.
I am very vivacious although sometimes a little reserved and I get lost in her thoughts about her. But sometimes she doesn't shut me up!
I like to make new friends and feel welcome. I am brave and judicious.

Daffy just delivered her rambling.
Wow, I've talked a lot, sorry she said embarrassed.

It was hard not to respond in kind with such a kind demeanor. Maeve beamed as she committed the girl's name to memory. Her eyes widened as she listened to the girl speak. Five siblings?! She couldn't imagine having a single one, let alone five. Still, she had been to Diagon Alley with her mother several times. They used to have ice cream "dates" at Florean's.

It seemed Daffy took center stage, telling her her life story. Her first instance of magic happened when she was three; it felt like forever ago. Three-fourths of her life had passed since, and she hated that she hadn't a memory of the event—a few moments of unexpected magic later on, but nothing like that very first time.

"Wow," she said, hoping that wasn't rude. She was overwhelmed. This was more words than she'd heard in one breath. She swore the girl had incorporated some parentheses in a spoken statement, which was impressive. She was fascinated by this fellow Hogwarts student. Perhaps they'd find themselves in the same house or at opposite ends of the castle. Both seemed acceptable.

"Ah...no, it's fine," she assured. "I haven't met anyone so...genuine," she added with a sheepish smile, tucking a red curl behind her ear. "You're lucky you remember your first instance of magic...I always hear about it from others. Apparently, I sneezed bubbles when I was three. There were a few unintentional moments after, but not the same as the first..."

Maeve stopped herself. They seemed to have left the heart of their initial encounter. Hadn't she asked about some book to initiate all of this? Now she couldn't even recall the genre. "Sounds like you know what you want from your school years..." She envied that. Maeve knew she was likely bound for Slytherin, but a part of her wanted nothing but a different path. Just imagining her mother's face when she wrote home about being sorted in Hufflepuff or Gryffindor made her smile.

Apologies for the delay; I was sick, and then life shoved me into the vanishing cabinet. I'm back, though!
