Focus; or a Lack of It
Clarisse was glad that Alexis had agreed to study with her. As interesting as the actual things they learnt were, and magic in general, there were times when they were too interesting, and Clarisse found herself trapped in a cycle of curiosity, leaving the library hours after entering without having done the homework she was meant to do. Hopefully, with another student to keep her in check, she'd get in, do what she needed to do, and leave without wasting the rest of the afternoon.
Her quill hovered over the parchment, staring blankly at the title that she had written - The History of Garden Gnomes - and the scrawl that was the start of her essay. The essay was meant to be two feet, while Clarisse had only just managed two sentences. And her mind really wasn't on gnomes. She leant over towards the other Ravenclaw, first to see what she had managed to do, before speaking softly.
"Why do you think we use quills?" she asked, knowing that she wasn't on topic. She wasn't going to stop thinking about the question though, not until she got an answer. "They seem so inconvenient. What's wrong with a good old pen? And also, do you think the professors would mind if we used pen? Although quill is more fun. I just think I might get bored with it."
She glanced back down to her poor essay, sighed, and shifted back to sit properly. "Sorry. I shouldn't distract you." The girl smiled awkwardly, dipped the quill into her ink pot, and realised she still didn't know what to write.
