The sheer audacity of such a grotesque feature only serves to accentuate the nightmarish quality of her visage. Her jaw is set firm, an unyielding testament to the ugliness that resides within.

Standing at a pitiful 139cm (4'56''), she is the epitome of stunted growth, both physically and metaphorically. Her round face, etched with contempt, is the canvas upon which her twisted nature is painted. The chapped, lifeless mouth that forms a grotesque mockery of a smile reveals a deliberate absence of some teeth, a sickening detail that mirrors the sadistic pleasure she derives from the discomfort of others.

And then there's her voice – a nasal, low, and thoroughly unpleasant auditory assault that grates on the ears like nails (black nails from the dust in, like hers) on a chalkboard. It's a voice that carries the weight of malevolence, leaving an indelible mark on anyone unfortunate enough to be subjected to its repugnant resonance.

Her slightly husky build and pudgy fingers attempt to masquerade as grace, but the awkwardness that accompanies every movement betrays the facade. At 55 kg (121 lb), she is a repulsive presence, both physically and in spirit. Katniss Hailemarijam is not an enigma to be unraveled; she is a living horror show, a ghastly embodiment of everything repugnant and abhorrent.

Biography

Katniss Hailemarijam comes from the famous Dutch family of the same name. The Hailemarijams, the most powerful and famous wizards in Holland, are known for being ruthless, unapproachable and extremely wealthy. So rich, in fact, that their name is even known in their own country in the Muggle world. At the head of twenty or so magical forest estates and dominating the agricultural world, they could almost be described as a business. They are involved in many fields: gastronomy, tourism through visits to their lands, crafts, politics and sales. Determined to extend their power around the world, each potential heir is married to one of the purest bloods of the country concerned. This is how Katniss came to be, through the union of her two parents in a most private marriage, Daan and Helene (Scottish, formerly Campbell) Hailemarijam. They are two extremists who head a family of five children. Apart from Katniss and her father, the whole family is blonde. They live on the outskirts of Hogsmeade.
Katniss grew up in a very private environment, being taught by a private tutor. She was generally very dissipated in her lessons.
Daan Hailemarijam is the Dutch ambassador to England while his family hands over the gastronomic business. Helene is a former Campbell, a Scottish family of meagre education and capital, who is using the influence of the son-in-law's family to restore it image. The mother of the family indulges in straight professions. Katniss feels close to her parents, even if the feeling is not mutual.
The first child, Ron Hailemarijam, has just turned 20 and is already married to young Siske. He is a boy who places great importance on his work, just like his father. Isaac, on the other hand, is the traitor. At 18 and fresh from his meagre studies, he plans to marry a half-blood girl. Forever cut off from his family, Katniss acts as if she had never heard of him, as if she had never had a brother named Isaac. Then there's Freek, another of her brothers. He's in his 16th year and is a real piano prodigy. Katniss isn't too close to him, she finds him too mature and adult. As for Thea... I have to tell you about Thea. Thea is the jewel of the family. Sublimely beautiful, she is the complete opposite of her sister. Popular, endearing, gifted and intelligent, she has it all. Even though she still harbours a strong hatred of Muggles, she's an extremely pleasant girl (in particular, she doesn't show it to her Muggle friends, but spits at them behind their backs). Katniss firmly believes that she is much better than she is.

Katniss's first instance of magic was when she was 7 years old, at home. She was having fun of annoying her father's owl, Archibald, when, out of anger because he had flown away, she turned him into a flobberworm. At first, she didn't understand, but her parents were pleasantly surprised, as none of their children had ever undergone metamorphosis.
