Everything was different. The faces in the halls, the stuff Alexx was learning compared to what she recalled, the Quidditch team that she once scared the living shit out of with her tactics, and now the Headliner.

Alexx had, quite comfortably, left the Headliner in the hands of Phaedra as she reluctantly resigned to take care of some personal matters, which in all fairness never really got addressed. Alexx's home life was a mess, that was no secret to anyone. Tex was gone, again- off on his grand adventures in America, and that was driving Mikey up the wall. As the eldest daughter, Alexx bore a weight neither of them did in dealing with these matters, and being the main correspondent with their family as Tex was M.I.A.

That was a lot to deal with at this age. At any age, really. And even more so when you have a newspaper to run and a Quidditch team to beat people up with. So, Alexx stopped. She stopped doing the stuff she loved because, even though she resented them for it all, family had to come first.

And yet here she was, staring at the announcement. Delilah Stewart- Alexx knew that name, she knew Delilah was the same age as her and Phae, and she knew that Delilah was the Editor-in-Chief before herself. Selfishly, Alexx felt that no one could truly do a better job than her, but what did it matter now?

Mixed feelings stirred inside her. Jealousy, maybe? Comfort, in a weird way? She didn't know how to take the news, and she didn't know why she cared. Alexx wasn't on the team anymore. But she found herself caring, because she put so much work into the Headliner, and now it was in less familiar hands than the ones she left it in. If she weren't priding herself on her streak of not crying, she'd cry. But she couldn't. That would be silly.

She felt a sense of comfort because change was inevitably good sometimes. This meant a fresh brand for the Headliner, and she was excited to see what they produced. But still jealousy, because she realized deep down had she not quit that could still be her. Reigning chief editor for however many years it would have been by now. Time was an illusion, and Alexx was her own downfall.

But it was too late. There was no undoing it. She had to come to terms with change and emotion, but coming to terms with things was never Alexx's strong suit. She was as stubborn as the day is long, and would fight things until she got her way, or make their life a living hell if she didn't. But oddly enough, she didn't feel like fighting this one.

Maybe that was part of growing up.

chill babe. we're all bad in someone's story.
