Alyssea entered the empty classroom, books in her arms. She wanted to come in early today to finish off the rest of her homework. She had stayed up late pouring over her History of Magic homework that she was too tired to finish homework for other classes.

Picking a spot near the entrance in the front row, she settled her quill and books to one side, leaving the centre of her table clear. She opened the Charms textbook where she had last left the paper and set to work.

Charms wasn't exactly her favourite subject, but she was good at it! Maybe a bit slow to start but when it came to the spell-casting and homework, she did well. But, like many people, her interests lay elsewhere in other subjects.

She hummed as she wrote. The birds were singing and the sun was shining through the classroom windows. If she wasn't stressed about the homework, she would've been outside enjoying the sun. She took a quick glance outside as she read from the textbook and sighed.

Her hand began to ache and she set her quill down. She looked down at the clock in the room. If she could sum up her final point in the next five minutes, she could hand it in when the teacher came. With a flick of the wrist to loosen it, she picked up her quill again and went back to writing.

Behind her, the door opened.

Charms was one of the few subjects Mellani liked, or at least, Professor Fresnel was on of the teachers she liked. In any case, her face was not quite as miserable as it had been since the start of the school year, or more accurately, the start of August. She entered the Charms classroom, to see that another student was already there.

"Oh, uh, hi, sorry if I disturbed you.", she said softly, just to keep things from getting awkward. Then again, they probably had already become awkward. That, or they had given an opening to a conversation, which might lead to friendship, which would lead to Mellani losing another friend. Way to go, Mellani, couldn't even stay positive for five minutes straight, a part of her thought, but this was life. Everyone died, and being close to someone just meant asking for more deaths.

Mellani sighed, holding her head in her hands for a while. Why was life so depressing? Why did she have to be a witch? What wrong had she done to deserve so much sorrow? Why couldn't she just be fucking NORMAL?! Why couldn't she live as happily as others did? She was so lost in these thoughts, that she had completely forgotten that there was someone else in the room.

Alyssea was interested when the door opened, mostly because she had arrived pretty early and wasn't expecting anyone for a while. Still, it was a breath of fresh air to have someone come in now that she'd mostly finished her homework. Just a few questions to go and she could hand it in!

Another girl entered. Alyssea turned towards the door to see her and offered her a smile. "It's alright, it's just me here."

Alyssea turned back to her homework and scribbled in the last of her answers. Once they were written, she set her quill down, closed her books, and stacked her homework on top of her books. That way, when the professor came around to collect them, she wouldn't have to dig through her bags or books.

When Alyssea turned to talk to the girl, she was still standing by the door. She frowned. Did the large number of empty chairs scare her? Too many choices, Alyssea figured.

"You okay?" She asked. Should she offer the seat beside her? Everyone would start rolling in soon. Or did the girl have a specific seat she preferred to sit at?

While Alyssea had her own preferences in where to sit (in the middle), she could adapt and didn't mind seating plans unless she couldn't see the board.

Quietly, Alyssea asked, "Would you like to sit beside me?"
