Today was the day! I was going to buy a pet from the Magical Menagerie! I was quite excited but I didn’t know which pet to choose yet. I had some time today and 19 galleons so I could decide and buy a pet with come food for it as well.
I dearly missed my dog Aurum and knew that getting a pet would help me cope with this. I knew that they didn’t have dogs so I would try my best to find something I liked. I knew nothing would replace Aurum my dog though…
As I entered the Magical Menagerie I was greeted by the sounds of many types of animals. In one corner lay the cats paired with the bunnies. Awwww! They’re so cuteee! another corner was for the Pygmy Puffs which were adorable too but quite expensive. In the center there were the owls which would probably be the most useful pet. Near the counter were the snakes and the lizards neither of which I would choose for my pet.
Currently I was deciding between the owls, cars and bunnies. I ruled out the bunnies because I wanted something that would be more active and a tad bit bigger. But, I couldn’t decide between the other 2 no matter how hard I thought.
“Darling, are you looking for something particular?” someone said. I turned around to find the shopkeeper looking at me.
“Um, I’m trying to decide between the cats and owls and which one I should get…” I replied.
“Ahhh… a great choice.” the shopkeeper replied, “What are you looking for in your pet?”
Hmmm… I had never actually thought about that. I was just weighing the pros and cons. But now that I thought about it, that seemed like a good idea.
“Well, I’m looking for a pet that’s similar to a dog. I have a dog currently but at Hogwarts your not allowed to bring a dog. What would you recommend?” I asked.
The shopkeeper nodded and led me closer to the cats. “You see here, we have this cutie. She’s a Bengal. She’s quite the active one. Bengals are known for being the most dog-like cats. And yes… they are now domestic cats but are quite playful and energetic. The perfect cat for a someone who likes dogs.”
I smiled at that response. That was exactly what I needed.
“Do you mind if I touch her?” I asked.
“Of course! Go ahead!” the shopkeeper said opening the cage.
The bengal jumped out at me and meowed and my feet. It proceeded to running around my legs in circles and then after 5 minutes, got bored and sat down at my feet.
It was love at first sight. This bengal was silver in color and absolutely gorgeous.
“This is the only bengal we have here currently. She’s a female and her coat is silver as you can see. I’ll give you two some time to bond now!” The shopkeeper said.
I didn’t really need much more time to bond but I took 20 minutes to play with the cat. I soon realized that she was the one. I was going to buy her. Checking the price I saw that she was 17 galleons. I currently had 19 so that was great.
“I am going to get her!” I exclaimed walking up to the counter. The shopkeeper smiled.
“Well that would be 17 galleons!” She answered.
I handed her the 17 still distracted by the little kitty. What would I name her? It only took me a few seconds to figure it out. My dogs name was Aurum which meant golden in Latin. This cat was silver so silver in Latin was… Argentum! I liked it. And her nickname would be Genie because she granted my wish! My wish to have a pet that I could bring to Hogwarts. I smiled.
“Here,” the shopkeeper said as I started to leave. “A few treats and some necessities that you’ll need for the first week! It’s free because I know that you 2 are going to have a great bond in the future. Come back soon!”
I smiled again. “Thanks!” I replied, grateful for this. Now it was time to go back and have fun with my new cat.
