Niks was excited to start at Hogwarts. Her parents had both been to Hogwarts when they were younger, and they had told so may fantastic stories!
She was also a little bit scared for the sorting. She had a strong feeling that she would be Ravenclaw or Slytherin, but what if she was actualy a Gryfffindor or Hufflepuff? She knew her parents would be proud of her, no matter what house she would be sorted in. But that didn't take away the feeling.

She sat down in a compartiment that was empty, she took her book out and started reading a book about creatures. It was one of the favourite books, gifted to her by her grandfather.
Niks isn't really social, so she hoped that she would meet some nice people 'on accident' or that someone would approach her.
She bought some candy from the Trolley Witch, a chocolate frog and a few licorice wands. She didn't really like Bertie Botts' Every Flavour Bean (she once had a vomit bean when she was younger), but she bought them so she would have a conversation starter later if she would meet a potential friend.

Then, she heard a knock on the compartiment door.

The platform has been filled of people. Parents, siblings, students jumping on the train... Lancelot Pemberton didn't like it at all, and his dad had to make sure he got over to the train in time. His older half-brother had been very clear for days that he had no interest in helping Lance onto the train - he had friends to find and didn't want to babysit his shy brother.

All of that meant that Lance was very late onto the train - which, he has slowly found out, means that almost every compartment is filled by groups of students that he's not comfortable joining. Instead, he carries his heavy bag through the train to find somewhere where he's not bothering anyone - at least not much. All about the "adventure" to Hogwarts, as his dad put it, is a bit scary and he'd rather sit at home, having everything be like it's always been. Even if he gets to learn magic at Hogwarts. There's simply no comfort at Hogwarts, and he'll be away for what feels like forever, and at the moment he doesn't know anyone. What if he doesn't find any friends?

He doesn't have to walk through the whole train until he finds a compartment without a friend group - a single student sitting there, which now seems like the best he'll find. Especially since the girl doesn't seem much older either, with a book in her hands. He knocks on the door and opens it slightly.
"Can I sit here? It's full everywhere..."

Niks was reading her book when a knock sounded on the door, the door opened a bit and a boy around her age peeks his head inside. He shyly asks: "Can I sit here? It's full everywhere..."
Niks nodds her head: "Yes, take a seat."

She at first goes back to her books, but then she thinks that it's maybe not a bad idea to introduce herself to the boy. She probably should atleast try to make friends while she was still on the train, it would be nice to know somebody at the very start of this adventure. Plus she had brought enough candy to share with somebody else, so why not?

"Um, I'm Niks. I'm from Nairn in Scotland and I think I'm going to be a Ravenclaw or a Slytherin. I could ofcourse still be a Gryffindor or Hufflepuff, but I don't really think that I could fit in those houses. Do you have any clue which house you're going to be in?" she asks curiously.
"And do you want chocolate?" she asks while grabbing in the backpack for a chocolate frog.

Niks has always been curious, she hoped that the boy doesn't think she's rude by asking this. Some people find it rude when she immediately jumps to the questions, but she doesn't understand why people would find it annoying. She isn't really good at making small talk, but she tries her best.

He can sit there. Lance steps in and closes the door behind before putting away his trunk. She returns to her book and Lance realizes he should probably take up one of his books from the trunk - the train ride will take some hours (which he doesn't look forward to) and books are always a safe company. Then, as he's done putting it away, she introduces herself and starts talking about the houses. Right, introductions are good.
"I'm Lancelot Pemberton", he introduces himself as she's done. "I'm from Inverness."
She's not a muggle-born, considering she knows about the houses, and can confidently talk about which she will be in.

Before he has time to answer the question about which hous he will be in - which he isn't sure about - she offers him chocolate.
"I can have a little, thank you", he says, before returning to the question about the houses. "I don't know what house I will be in. My brother is in Slytherin and my dad was a Ravenclaw, but I don't know. My brother said it would be decided by a hard test, and that if I failed I wouldn't be sorted at all."
He knows he can't trust everything Caspian says, but no one had said anything else. His dad had just told Lance not to worry.

"Nice to meet you, Lancelot!" Niks gives him some chocolate, after she find it in her bag. Only then, she makes the connection between Lance's hometown and the ciy close to her hometown.

"Wait a second, do you live in Inverness? That's like, really close to my town. I go to Inverness sometimes with my family and I think it's less than an half hour drive with the car. That's fun!
Sorry for interrupting, I really try not to do that, but I can't help it sometimes. You were talling about your family?"
Niks quickly excuses herself. It isn't nice to interrupt people when they are speaking, and she tries not to do it, but it's rather difficult sometimes.

Lance tells her about that he doesn't know which house he'll be in and what his brother told him about the test. Apparently, his dad was a Ravenclaw and his brother is a Slytherin.

"Oh, that isn't true. They just put some dusty old hat on your head, who's called 'The Sorting Hat' and the hat says what house fits you the best." Niks tries to reassure Lance.
"So you do know which house stands for what? If we speak in stereotypes and house characteristics, Gryffidor is bravery, Hufflepuff is kindness, Ravenclaw wisdom, and Slytherin ambition. I think I'll be one of the latter because reading, which I like, is apparently a Ravenclaw thing and I'm also quite ambitious. Your house can be something totaly different from you families' houses."

Right, Nairn is close to Inverness (which would probably explain a similar accent, assuming she has one for the area). She's very talkative, but Lance doesn't mind much because he wouldn't really be sure what to say if she wasn't asking all those questions but tells her when she's done. Or says she's done, at least, because he won't be surprised if she talks more after he's answered. And she goes on to explain that it isn't a hard test, but a dusty old hat, which certainly feels less intimidating. That would mean Caspian lied about it, which honestly wouldn't be surprising. He's not mean, but he likes doing pranks on Lance, especially about Hogwarts where Lance hasn't known the truth before.

What the houses stand for. Lance knows a little bit about the houses. Caspian is in Slytherin, so he'd rather be sorted into one of the other houses. His dad has said he'll probably be a Ravenclaw, just like him. His mom, who is a muggle and has a limited knowledge about Hogwarts has said that it doesn't matter, as long as his classmates are nice, and she's probably right.
"Well, they haven't explained a lot", he says. He knows the basics about Hogwarts, but they haven't explained the houses more than the basics. "My dad thinks I'll be sorted into Ravenclaw. But I don't think it matters that much, as long as people are nice."

Lancelot is rather quiet, but he doesn't seems to mind the fact that Niks talks a lot. It's a habit that she has when she is nervous. She isn't quite nervous because her company here on the train, but she's a bit nervous about how Hogwarts is going to be.
Lance tells Niks that his family hasn't explained a lot about Hogwarts, but that his dad think that he's going to be a Ravenclaw. Lance's own thoughts on the subject are that he doesn't really care as long as there are nice people in the house.

"That's a good mindset." Niks answers.
"If you want some extra information about Hogwarts, I have this really interesting book called 'Hogwarts, a History', you can read it some time when you want. If you haven't read it already ofcourse." Niks suggests.
"So there is a chance that we'll get in the same house! That would be fun! I'm a bit nervous about all that is to come. The sorting, making friends, classes, the castle ... Too much to enumerate. It will be nice to already know somebody of the other ones. What part of Hogwarts do you look the most forward to?" Niks asks, she is honestly curious about that, because everybody looks forward to something else.

Lance would be about the opposite from Niks when he gets nervous - that tends to mean he talks less. He hasn't read Hogwarts, a History, although it probably is somewhere among all the school books that he had to buy. He has looked through a bit, but not read them. He has other books to read.
"I haven't read it", he answers her about the book, "have you? Does it say anything interesting?" Maybe he should have read it, to find out what his brother has lied about and what has been the truth.

Then, she goes on to talk about their sorting and if they get placed in the same house. That would be nice - not that he knows her well yet, but it's a face he's talked to and that's always nice.
"That would be fun", he agrees, and she keeps going about everything that will happen when they get there. Lance is nervous, nothing else can be said. He's worried ha won't get comfortable because everything's so different from what he's used to - but he doesn't say that.
"Learning magic will be cool. Instead of just staring at my wand... but I’ve heard the castle is really big too, and I'm really curious about how they've made it stay so well even though it's really old."

Lance seems to think for a second before telling that he has not read it. He asks Niks if she has read it and if it says anything interesting.
"Oh yes, I'be read it. It says a lot of interesting things acutally. It mentions a lot of spells that are placed on and around the castle. For example, it explains how they made the roof of the Great Hall project the weather outside at that very moment without feeling the rain or stuff."
Lance agrees with her about what she tells about them possibly being sorted in the same house, but he seemed rather anxious about all the new things.
Then he says: "Learning magic will be cool. Instead of just staring at my wand... but I’ve heard the castle is really big too, and I'm really curious about how they've made it stay so well even though it's really old."
Niks couldn't agree more, she had seen her parents do magic since she was a kid and she was always incredibly fascinated by it. She was so excited to finally be able to learn how to do it herself.
"I hope I won't get lost in the castle. 'Hogwarts, a history' mentions that there are a few creature in and around the castle, but that the pupils are a safe as they can be. What would those creatures be? Maybe flobberworms or something." she says while laughting at the thought.
"So do you like books? And which ones?" Niks asks, she could talk for hours about books, and she hopes that Lance doesn't mind that.

Niks was just trying to lead the conversation to her favourite subject, that means books.
She had already read a lot of books in her life, and thus she also liked talking about them. Other people often found that boring, but Niks found it quite interesting. It's not like she didn't have any other interests.
Even though she has a lot of interests, she often talked about books with others. And like that, Niks discovered that most of the people were not really interested in the books that she read, or even books in general.
Suddenly, a knock on the door interrupted her thoughts and the conversation.
Lance on the contrary, didn't seem to mind that she was goign on and on about a lot of things, including her books.
She looked up at the boy. He looked nervous while asking if he could sit with her and Lance.
"Yes, take a seat. I'm Niks and this is Lance, we just met. Wait- I can call you Lance right? Or do you prefer Lancelot?" she interrupted herself, looking at the boy in question.
"We just discovered that we live close to eachother, like a thirty minutes drive. And we don't know eachother, isn't that funny. Sorry, I'm rambling again. What's your name?" she asked the new boy.

Hi, welcome to this thread! Your post is a bit short, I think it needs to be atleast 200 words.
