Core: White River Monster Spine
Cassian’s American witch mother, Sarah Jackson, comes from a long line of pureblood wizards: the prestigious American wizarding family, Jackson. The Jackson family is also very wealthy due to some, alleged, illegal activity. White River Monster Spine cores produce spells of force and elegance. Cassian has a high arcane power, which matches well with the force from a White River Monster Spine core. These cores were crafted by the American wandmaker Quintana, who has since passed away and now White River Monster Spines are no longer used as wand cores. But Sarah Jackson kept one of these wands that had been passed down through her family. It was initially intended to be hers, but she instead was paired with a unicorn hair core wand in an attempt to keep herself as far away from dark magic as she could. But Sarah recognized Cassian’s power and unpredictability with a dragon heartstring wand and thought that the White River Monster Spine would be a calmer fit for him.

Wood: Yew
Yew wands have a reputation for darker magic, which is very relevant in the Jackson family. They are also known for choosing duelists, which Cassian aspires to be. A yew wand’s dark reputation in dueling and curses, combined with the wealthy pureblood-prone core, was very important to the Jackson family. While yew wands can be attracted to Dark Wizards, they are also attracted to wizards who are fierce protectors. Cassian’s loyalty to his family and friends is the center of his beliefs. Yew wands never choose a timid or mediocre wizard, which Cassian most certainly is not. This also demonstrates Cassian’s innate dueling abilities as well as his potential struggle against the darker aspects of magic, which stem from past generations in his family.

Length: 10.3 inches (26,2 cm)
From an average wand length of 9-14 inches, Cassian’s 10.3 inch (26.2 cm) wand is on the shorter side, although still fairly average. While this can be reflected in Cassian’s short height and slimmer build, it has more to do with his personality rather than his physical appearance. Cassian always makes an attempt to blend in and not cause a scene. He doesn’t like the spotlight and he doesn’t need dozens of friends; just a few close ones. Trying to be perfectly average is what Cassian is good at as he also tries to hide his American accent as well.

Flexibility: Very Flexible
As a half-blood and middle child, Cassian has always found himself to be adaptable to new situations and people. He isn’t too great at planning ahead and often finds himself thinking on his feet and improvises really well. This often comes in handy during duels or when he has to finish his homework at the last minute. While he is adaptable and often willing to change, he is firm in his loyalty to his friends, family, and values. This explains why he doesn’t have a whippy wand flexibility or rigid one either. Cassian’s very flexible wand is more on the flexible side, without being overly so.

Cassian is the middle child of his American witch mother and his English Muggle father. His older sister, Eloise Clarke, is two years older than him and his younger brother David, is a squib. Eloise is the perfect Hufflepuff: friendly, kind, and open. She and Cassian are great friends, although since moving to London, Eloise had been studying at Hogwarts and they haven’t had much time to bond. Cassian is excited to be able to spend more time with his sister as he now attends Hogwarts as well.
Cassian feels he fits into both the wizard and muggle worlds. His father is a university professor of archeology and his mother works for the Ministry of Magic as an Obliviator.
Cassian’s father, William, moved to the West to study dinosaur fossils. While there he met an American witch, Sarah. The two married and had three children.
Originally born in Arizona, United States, Cassian’s parents family moved to England, when his mother was offered a position at the British Ministry of Magic. He was eight years old at the time. His mother got a job at the Ministry of Magic in London, working as an Obilivator, as she had much experience with that career in the U.S.
The first accidental use of Magic that occurred in London happened shortly after arriving in his new home. Separated from his family in the London Underground, a nine-year old Cassian became lost and frightened. He tried to find a quiet place, free from the chaos and noise of the underground. In his panic as he rushed by, he accidentally caused a small magical effect that started a small fire that ignited a waste bin. It was only later after he had reunited with his family that he realized he must have lit the bin on fire.

Cassian isn’t the brightest student. Largely in part to his difficulty paying attention and staying on task, he struggles in more academic classes. Cassian thrives in action-packed environments, hands-on and visual learning, and hard work. While he may not always have the brains for his classes, he has strong determination and will. Until his first year at Hogwarts, Cassian struggled overall in school. Mathematics were especially difficult. Numbers never seemed to fit in his head. Equally so were his reading and writing classes, as well as history. Too many dates and names to remember. He found he liked the science labs, but the lectures were hard to understand and follow. He also loved physical education and was very quick and agile, despite his small size.

Upon receiving his Hogwarts letter, he secretly hoped he might find something he was good at. He had always been an average student and wanted new opportunities at Hogwarts. He found this in Defense Against the Dark Arts. He seemed to have been born for this class. The classes were so interesting to him! Learning about monsters and dangerous creatures, as well as curses, hexes, and jinxes lit a fire inside him. His mother worked for the ministry as an Obliviator and specialized in charms. His older sister excelled in potions. But Cassian thrived in Defense Against the Dark Arts. He quickly realized his first year DADA class wasn’t going to teach him all that he wanted to know, nor would he be able to unlock his true potential. He convinced his older sister to lend him her old DADA textbooks. Cassian spent much of his free time and, truth be told, much of his time in his more “boring” classes reading up on the new material.

It wasn’t difficult to see the results in his DADA class. He was ahead of nearly all the other students in his class. He found his outside preparation and readings helped him pay more attention in class. And he didn’t find it hard to concentrate on his readings if the textbook was interesting. What Cassian especially loved about Defense Agaisnt the Dark Arts were the real world applications of it. It wasn’t like maths or useless historical facts. It was real life, live or die. And he loved it. The thrill of learning his spells, learning about the dangers that lurked in the wizarding world made his curious nature all the more inquisitive. He wasn’t sure exactly which career he wanted to go into, but something related to the Dark Arts and the protection against it fascinated him.
