Closed Green days PV Madi McQuade

"the cry of the mandrake is fatal to anyone who hears it. What a lovely lesson." Madi recited one of the passages she'd memorized in her Herbology book. She prided herself in never missing a question the professor asked, although the only students who seemed to find it impressive were the Ravenclaws, who enjoyed the extra points Madi got them. Other Houses, though, would lean over and hiss "know-it-all" in her ear.
Madi was thoroughly paying attention, ignoring the kids that were not. (Which was mainly Hufflepuffs, she couldn't help but notice.) As the professor droned on about mandrakes (it was quite interesting, really, but she just knew too much about them to have full concentration.) She instead began admiring the plants. The greenhouse was wild, plants grew everywhere, and they were mismatched all over the place. There seemed to be no double of a plant. She admired flowers, plants with thorns, plants with sharp leaves. They were all so new, even if she had read about most.
"Isn't this so cool? That's unlike any flower I've ever seen!" Madi exclaimed to Daniel. She hoped that maybe he'd think it was as cool as she thought it was.
Madi clamped her earmuffs tighter around her ears just as the professor was about to pull the mandrake out of its pot.

The boy ends up returning to his place near Madi, with a certain disinterest in the mandrakes that the teacher was teaching about, but he keeps staring at Madi trying to play with the expression she was making "wow.. how fascinating.." he says in a sarcastic tone "can these things really kill people? that would be cool to see happen" he says obviously joking but when the teacher tells the students to tighten their earmuffs he doesn't think twice and puts both hands up to protect his ears, when the teacher takes one away of the mandrakes from inside her vase, and she starts screaming loudly, Daniel seemed to be more bothered by the noise of this thing than the others (not that it wasn't annoying to the others).

As soon as the teacher puts the mandrake back in its vase and buries it lightly making it stop screaming, Daniel seems irritated with the plant's scream, the teacher prepares the students to remove the plant carefully, Daniel didn't think his dampers were tight enough, but that was probably just his thinking, but as soon as he pulled the mandrake out of the pot, all the plant's screams made him a little dizzy, and he held on a bit. Madi not to pass out, daniel's damper was normal, he just seems a little dizzy from the noise, and as soon as the students put the mandrakes back in the pots, some are still dizzy from the screaming, but it seems to have gone ok, the teacher goes back to explain more about the mandrakes.

she explains about mandrakes growing cicle, Daniel starts to pick up some soil and make a small mound, trying to make an earth sculpture during the explanation, but the movement of one of the mandrakes makes him pay attention again, he seemed to be snuggling inside the vase.

After Daniel had made his sarcastic comment, Madi raised her eyebrows and gestured to the pot, as if saying see for yourself.
Madi clamped her earmuffs tightly on her head.
As the Mandrake started screaming, Madi held her earmuffs against her head as firmly as she could. She looked around and noticed Daniel looking faint. She hoped the screaming ended soon, she didn't want to him to faint. She didn't want anyone to faint.
Sure enough, the screaming ended. The professor handed out pots with mandrakes in them to every student. Madi got a relatively small one, which she hoped meant the Mandrake inside wouldn't be too loud.
The teacher instructed them on how to get the mandrakes out of the pot. Madi did just as she was told and yanked the mandrake with as much strength as she could muster. She was surprised when it came right out of the pot, a screaming little shriveled up monster thing that seemed to be made of roots. It was very skinny, much skinnier than the others. It was crying it's lungs out (if it had lungs). Madi quickly shoved it back in the pot and folded the dirt nicely around it until the screams were muffled.

The boy looks at Madi, slightly surprised that she had managed to do that so calmly, Daniel was still dizzy from the screams, holding on hard so as not to faint, When the teacher checks on the students to check if they were okay to continue the lesson, Daniel just smiled as he leaned back trying to show that he was okay. "I think I could smell colors for a moment" he says jokingly

He looks at Madi with a kind of annoyed look, He really had just proven that Ravenclaws are know-it-alls, but the boy gives a smile wanting to joke with the situation "You have a very good relationship with Mandrakes, I thought I even saw one who looked just like you" He says in a joking tone, but in a low voice so that only she can hear.

Even joking, he seemed quite impressed, but then Daniel looked at the Mandrakes with a certain defiant and curious gaze, he began to poke one of the Mandrakes that was still in its vase, seeing if it would react to being disturbed, and he found out in the worst possible way, the Mandrake that was being disturbed bites Daniel's finger, which luckily does not touch the tip of the finger but the glove, he hits slighty the plant's head a few times to make it let go of the glove, and he tries to go back to the lesson still a little irritated with the plant "Stupid root.." he says whispering

Madi watched as the teacher walked around, confirming that students were alright to continue. Madi was lucky that she didn't get light-headed easily. She'd only fainted once and hoped never again.
Only one student wanted to sit out, and she was a Hufflepuff who looked as though she passed out everyday. Madi always felt sorry for people like that, she knew a fair few of them.
"I'm alright to continue." Madi told the professor once she reached her. The teacher nodded and smiled and continued on.
"Really? Do you think I have a secret twin?" Madi grinned at Daniel's joke and pretended to look around.
Madi averted her attention once more to her Mandrake pot. She smoothed out the dirt that was all uneven on top, until it looked nice enough.
She looked over at Daniel and it took all her willpower not to burst out laughing. He was drawing his finger closer and closer to the Mandrake, testing to see what it would do. Madi knew what would happen but decided to let him have some hands on experience. The Mandrake latched it's teeth onto his finger and Daniel jerked away. He let out a nervous laugh and Madi tried to control her laughter before it escaped her.
"Second rule of Mandrakes. Never bring your body close to its mouth." Madi whispered and Daniel glared at her.

"Maybe you two are indeed twin sisters, with that tired old woman face" he says jokingly, pulling the skin off his face to do an old man imitation and then Daniel also makes some weird looking faces while laughing a little at the joke.

"ha ha.. very funny" the boy says in a sarcastic tone while looking at Madi with an irritated look, he looks at the mandragora with a certain irritation in his eyes too, the teacher continues to explain the class and Daniel starts to copy some things on a parchment, but ends up losing attention again and start drawing again.

During class Daniel starts poking Madi in the middle of the class saying softly "psssst"... "pssst" he keeps poking her shoulder until she notices him "What do you say after class we go to the campgrounds? we don't have the next class for a few hours so I guess we can go for a walk" he says whispering to Madi, He leans to the side to be able to talk to her with more "privacy" since he was talking softly, the boy ends up leaning so much to the side that he ends up falling to the floor and making a loud noise knocking over a vase (which luckily was empty). the noise was so loud that it stopped the continuation of the class, Daniel gets up "Sorry I slipped" and he puts the pieces back together where the vase was "sorry"

"I know, I'm hilarious." Madi said, ignoring his first comment. She wasn't particularly pleased with being compared to a mandrake, but she knew if she ignored him it would blow over. So that was what she did.
She continued working, observing and taking notes. She wanted high grades so badly.
She felt Daniel tapping on her shoulder repetitively. It was very annoying, but she pretended she didn't notice. Until she couldn't stand it anymore, she finally turned around.
"What do you want?" she hissed quietly. When Daniel suggested they go to the campgrounds after class, Madi considered it. She turned over to do her work, but when she heard a loud crash, she whipped her head toward where Daniel used to be. He was now on the floor with a broken vase. Madi couldn't control herself and started laughing. She noticed the teacher watching her and tried stopping herself with good results.
"Sorry miss. Got a bit carried away." she apologized. She had never had to apologize to a teacher before! She shook this thought off.
She found herself a bit of parchment, and after Daniel was back in his seat, she scribbled a note on it and passed it to him. it read:
Sure, we can go to the campgrounds.

The boy was a little embarrassed the rest of the class, he had stopped bothering Madi for a while. Daniel seemed to have gone back to observing his surroundings and starting to doodle some plants they had in the greenhouse, some that even reminded him of some he had at home (muggle plants) they just looked alike, he couldn't tell if they were magical but some definitely had interesting enough traits to draw carefully.

He would draw quickly and try to make them as similar as possible, he even sketches one of the Mandrakes, but he definitely draws them with ugly faces kinda mocking them. He ended up getting a bit of a grudge against those plants, but even so he seemed to enjoy the class, but as it was still his first... he wasn't sure it was his favorite... He hadn't cast any spells yet so it was hard to choose

But he spent a lot of time imagining what the classes would be like... maybe they would teach us how to turn people into frogs or make houses float... whatever his imagination thought it was impossible, this place proved the opposite.

When they least expected it, the class was already close to ending, the explanation and some activities had already been done, all the students were talking to each other, Daniel then seems to wake up from his own little world of imagination and starts to face Madi again, with a slightly playful smile

"hey Madi, If you had to choose between hearing a Mandragora scream or having to walk through the forbidden forest alone, which would you choose? A hypothetical question of course"

He looked like he was completely bored, but he was having fun talking a little bit.

"Hmm. If there were no earmuffs, you'd die if listening to a mandagora scream. But there are dangerous creatures in the forbidden forest that could kill you, but plenty of students go in and come out okay, and it does sound pretty interesting . I choose possible death over certain death." Madi considered this. She knew Daniel was bored with her answer, but she found it the most logical, although she would have preferred neither.
The lesson was over and it was the time when everyone was getting up and chatting with friends. Madi normally spent this time reading, but she had someone to talk to.
She didn't even want to read her book, as she often did when engaging in conversation.
"So, campgrounds after class?" Madi said. Daniel nodded in agreement.
The teacher dismissed the class, and Madi got ready for the rush of students. Everyone stampeded toward the door, but she stayed behind until the stampede stopped. She wasn't fond of getting trampled. So she packed up all her belongings, brushed the dirt of her work station and put it in her mandrake pot.
"Great lesson, professor." Madi told the teacher before she left. The professor smiled at her in return.
