History/Background Story: Alex grew up in the historical city of Inverness, Scotland. Even though both of his parents are magical, they wanted to raise their son among Muggles so they wouldn’t have any prejudices against them. The family lives in an old castle that has been turned into their home; their clan/family has lived in this castle for several generations and the place is full of secret passages and hidden treasures. Because they have lived in the castle for so long, they are familiar with Muggles and their tools. Plus, Alex's uncle (by marriage) Jason is a Squib that lives with them in a wing of the tower. Because of this, they got to see first-hand how magical society treated him, and by extension their family then they learned that he had no magical powers. The community of Inverness sees their family as a bit strange and they rumour that the castle is 'haunted', which scares them away from their home.
Uncle Jason was sent away when he was eleven years old to live with distant relatives that were also squibs and for much of Alex's mother's life and her parents had a very negative view of Squibs. She didn't want to make the same mistake as her parents, so she made contact with Jason as soon as she could and invited him to live with them after their parents had died, that way he had somewhere to go. Since Jason had lived with Muggles on exile for so long, he now knew all about Muggles and he shared that information with Alex's parents and with Alex also. This made it easier for Alex's parents to raise him alongside the muggles.
Alex's father is also an Auror at the Ministry of Magic. His mother runs a greenhouse where she grows muggle and magical plants that she sells to both types of people. They also have a hidden basement where the parents can perform magic away from the watchful eyes of the Muggles. One of the hardest parts of living among the muggles was keeping their secret life, secret; the Dresden family couldn’t reveal their magical ancestry due to not wanting to break the statue of secrecy.
Since the family had always lived in the castle, with mixed-blooded family members, Alex's parents inherited the castle when his mother, Ashlynn, parents' passed away. And with Alex’s mother running a greenhouse, a ruse had to be made for their lavish lifestyle, so, Alex told anyone that asked that they received money from relatives in England. He said that he didn’t know why, he just guessed they were too rich to know what to do with it but he didn’t question it due to the life he was living.
For the first few years, Alex denied anyone coming to his house. He went around others but was too paranoid to let them come around his. The story of his father being a ghost hunter also helped, because his friends were all too afraid to come to the castle and thought that it was haunted. But, as Alex got older, he decided the time was right. Any traces of magic would be hidden — the majority of it being in the basement that was off limits so no one would know that they were wizards. Alex would have to life his life as a Muggle, not telling anyone about this secret as he grew up.
Still, Alex grew up going to a Muggle primary school and had plenty of Muggle friends; again, because his parents wanted him to appreciate both worlds without gaining negative views on the muggles, or thinking he has a wizard was better than them all. This is where he met his best friend, Luke. It was difficult hiding his true identity from his best friend, but having a father who was a ghost hunter gave them plenty to talk about! It also helped that Alex's father had plenty of siblings, which meant lots of extended family across Scotland that were wizarding families. This meant Alex could still grow up learning about magic and be among those like him, while also going to the Muggle primary school.
When Luke received his Hogwarts letter, Alex got to finally tell him all about the wizarding world. Alex is obsessed with Quidditch and has been to several Quidditch World Cups where he’s watched his Uncle George play for the Scotland team as a Chaser. Alex also has a sister named Stacey who is a couple years younger than him. Stacey is always hanging out with her older brother and his best friend, and they loved to ride horses around the highlands in Inverness. They especially loved exploring the old stone circles that represented the ancient religion of Druidism, and Alex becomes more and more intrigued by it as he gets older.
Physical Description:Alex is 4’9” tall and has a medium build. He has short brown hair and brown eyes. He is always wearing his school uniform and a hat when required, and when it’s the weekend he still wears clothes that show his house colours proudly!
PersonalityAlex is very intelligent and learns things quickly. He also rarely forgets anything that he has read. He is very intuitive and curious, especially with relation to history and magical creatures. He is very friendly when it comes to meeting new people and always respects authority, though he will try to test boundaries now and again with the rules…
First Instance of Magic: When Alex and his best friend Luke, a Muggle who would soon get his letter to Hogwarts, were exploring around some old Celtic ruins, they heard what they thought might be a ghost. Alex was so afraid that he somehow managed to make the leaves all around them swirl up and surround them, even though there was no wind at all! Luke was more in awe at that than scared about whatever they’d seen!
