PET Winter's Dark, Summer's Light Finished

Cold was it along the frosted streets of Diagon Alley, brightly lit windows pouring warm rays atop the snowy piles harbored outside. Christmas time always led to busy business, children and adults alike huddled up in their coats and mittens as they window-shopped with grace. Not often was it that Maeve found herself in London at all apart from schooling-related businesses, the wizarding street so far from her own home in Cork. Easily could her parents have taken their eager child to any other pet store in Ireland, likely even a muggle one. The chance on that was low, however. While the Selwyn's held no absolute bias on the subject of blood status, wizards delving into muggle company wasn't all too frequent as it were. That coupled with the fact that Maeve had begged until her very last breath to visit the shoppe just on the corner of Diagon Alley.

Magical Menagerie greeted them warmly, the sight of owls and cats within the green-bordered windows just begging her to enter. And enter she did, practically dashing as she let go of her father's hand to push open the creaky door. The smell that greeted her was less than optimal, but easily ignorable as the warmth engulfed her skin instead. Brown eyes scanned curiously around the old shop, ferrets and lizards eyeing her down! Spiders too, causing her nose to scrunch up just barely. How strange a person would have to be to purchase a spider.

"Do let me know if I can be of service!" A voice called out, catching Maeve by surprise but leaving her nonetheless appreciative. Perhaps she was all too giddy to focus on anything besides her potential new friend anyway, holding 15 galleons in hand with eagerness.

Minutes passed by just as she passed all of the enclosed animals, all undeniably interesting in their own ways. An owl would be most divine, a winged companion to greet her in the Owlery at Hogwarts when writing back home. A cat! To snuggle up with cozily at night, the sound of purring a reminder she'd always have someone to love. But what was this..?

A small, grey ball of fluff sat ever so still in the corner of its cage, neighbored by fellow rabbits who seemed much more interested in Maeve. Had it just been a fluff toy left in the cage after it's inhabitant was purchased? Evidently not as the creature shifted slightly, still remaining recluse as its face became slightly visible. Her gaze shifted down to read the info card; Mist Hopper, 400 grams. Birthdate.. June 21st? Maeve whipped around quickly, searching for her parents in the crowd of others that stood in the store. Beckoning over with a hand, she pointed at the tag once more.

"June 21st! It was born on June 21st!" To no avail did Saorise nor Charlie understand, a clear groan of annoyance following. "The Summer Solstice? I was born on the Winter Solstice? We have to get it. Her tone was clear, as if it were up to no debate at all. Not more than two moments later was the fluffball brought up to the counter, its previous timid demeanor now accepting to Maeve's presence.

"L'été, french for summer."
