The scritch, scritch sound of quill on parchment filled the mostly empty courtyard. It was a warmer day than normal for January, so a few students had ventured outside to enjoy the sun, including the snowy-haired EmmaLee LeDames. The pale girl wound her yellow and black scarf tighter around her thin neck and pulled her winter cloak closer around her small body in an effort to stave off the chilly air. Though warmer than normal, it was still rather chilly for a Tuesday afternoon.
EmmaLee was sitting on the edge of the fountain in the middle of the courtyard, writing various letters while she had a moment to do so. She hadn't written to her mother or her friends who attended Ilvermorny since term started and she was starting to feel rather guilty about it. She hummed a bouncy little tune as she wrote and kicked her feet back and fourth over the edge on the fountain. Her legs were short enough that she had to be on tip toe to reach the ground when she sat here, so when relaxed, her feet usually just dangled and swayed. It had been quite a while since she had been in such a good mood, especially a good enough mood to write letters to people.
Her nightmares from last semester had finally settled and gone away, he had had a lovely Christmas break with her family, and although the teachers had jumped right to assigning homework and she had been fairly busy with that, she was doing alright handling the lesson-load and was able to finish most of the work before dinner each night. She was also progressing really well with her cello studies and being able to hang out with some of her new friends. She smiled broadly as she wrote to her mother about how settled she felt now that things weren't so dramatic this semester.
As she wrote and hummed and kicked, the chatter and movement of the students around her faded away until she was singularly focused on writing and not really paying attention to anything else going on around her.
