Prefect duties started at the moment she stepped into the train. She didn't quite remember whether there were actual detailed rules about these duties, but a few prefects were doing the checks, and she always did as well. So it was assumed that she would just go around, especially for those who were present in it for the first time in their lives.Participants:

Morning
She dropped her trunk in the compartment with the ones she regularly spends the ride, smiled and apologised for her upcoming patrol.
"I'll be right back," she smiled once again and shut the door.
The train started to move. First slowly, and she started to move to the back of the train, casually looking through each compartment's window, if the door was closed, or just giving a quick overlook if the door was open. Just... for the order, you know. Blowing up trains wasn't something she would like to experience again, but she would patrol again and again to not let another heist happen.
The train started to gain speed, but the nice part of a magical train was that the movement was still smooth and pleasant. Only the speed of the objects behind the windows reminded that the train must have been going full-speed now.
A couple of cars remained, if she counted correctly, and she counted correctly. And just in the narrow corridor between the cars, she stumbled upon a seemingly first-year with no house-related robes. She couldn't quite perceive whether the girl had any issues with her trunk, but they found themselves in a bottleneck, unable to move one way or another.
"Do you need help, darling?" she softly asked the first-year girl with crystal clear understand that the help was indeed required. She will help her eventually, she just needed a polite introduction first.

When the Hogwarts Express pulled into Platform 9 3/4, Adrianna gasped at its beauty. It reminded her of the first time she saw a shooting star. She was in utter awe of the scarlet steam train. She turned around and hugged both of her parents.
“Remember to write to us-” her mother began.
“Every week, yes, I know!” exclaimed Adrianna in annoyance. They had already told her about a million times that she was to write every week.
“You’re coming back for Christmas, aren’t you?” asked her father, looking concerned.
“Of course I am. Why are you so worried?” she said.
“I thought you wouldn’t want to if you made new friends and they were staying…”
“No, no, of course-”
Adrianna was cut off by the sound of the train whistling.
“Well, I’d best be off!” she said, very excited. She picked up her trunk and walked towards the door. She turned round to get one last glimpse of her parents and felt a tug at her heartstrings. Their faces looked like sad little puppy dogs. She ran back to them and hugged them both tightly.
“I’ll miss you!” she shouted, close to tears. Her mother was crying and her father was desperately trying not to.
Adrianna quickly ran onto the train so she wouldn’t have to bear the pain any longer. She sniffled quietly and lugged her trunk behind her until she came near an empty compartment. As she reached it, she was struggling to carry it into the compartment when *a prefect asked her if she needed help*.
“Erm… yes please,” mumbled Adrianna shyly.

The girl seemed particularly shy, even though she was really trying hard to carry her trunk all the way through the connecting corridor (where they met) and into the closest compartment.
Meenauh looked into the compartment and saw the faces of the students, who were apparently puzzled by the huge trunk that was attempted to be tugged into the already full compartment.
"Wait, wait, darling, this one is full," she said motherly to Adrianna, pulling the trunk back into the corridor, "Let's go find another one for you."
She stretched her arm towards the beginning of the corridor, hinting to go forward. If Adrianna was worried about her trunk, Meenauh would give her a comforting and reassuring nod and then click her fingers: "Wingardium Leviosa!"
The trunk would be lifted as a feather and Meenauh would start moving through the car, making floaty gestures with her hand to maintain the Levitation Charm. They would need to be passing every compartment and check whether they were full or not. Quite a chore, but Meenauh decided to help, so she had to take it to the end. But doing it in complete silence would be even worse. So a casual talk was inevitably required.
"So, what's your name?" she casually asked trying to sound as heart-warming as possible, "And which house do you expect to be sorted in?"
She didn't want to be pushy or intimidating, but some small talk would surely break the ice for the first-year, and she'd probably be less shy when interacting with her future compartment mates.

“Erm, I’m Adrianna,” she mumbled shyly. She wasn’t particularly talkative around new people. “I’m not sure what house I will be in.”
Adrianna silently thought about the houses. She didn’t like the thought of being sorted into Slytherin because the house was associated with dark wizards. She thought about Ravenclaw but Adrianna, herself, knew that she didn’t fit the description of a Ravenclaw. She was quite smart (when she wanted to be) but she also didn’t like reading. Adrianna thought that she would most likely be a Gryffindor, because she was short-tempered and stubborn, or a Hufflepuff, because she was loyal and quite a kind person.
“Maybe I’ll be a Gryffindor or a Hufflepuff,” she suggested after she had thought about it. “I guess I’m quite kind and loyal but I’m also short-tempered and stubborn. My mother was in Hufflepuff. I remember her telling me when I got my letter. She is really good at cooking and she knows a lot about plants.”
Adrianna suddenly realised how much she would miss her parents. She would miss helping her mother cook meals and plant flowers. She would miss her father reading Muggle fairytales to her before bed. Adrianna knew she was too old for fairytales but she enjoyed them.
“So, what’s your name?” she asked the helpful prefect.

"Nice to meet you, Adrianna," she answered right away, still moving forward and checking every compartment and maintaining the trunk levitation. She didn't answer the uncertainty Adrianna expressed in which house she was expected to be sorted in. She just smiled and continued to move. Adrianna was just a first-year on her way to Hogwarts. She was shy, she might have not thought it through yet, or thought about it and never expressed her feelings out loud. Understandable. Especially in a situation when you had to plod behind a prefect and your trunk through a train on the move without a proper, comfortable seat. Not very tempting to start a sincere conversation, really.
All compartments in that car were full, so she opened the door into the next one and carefully let the trunk through before her, which turned out to be smarter than making it trudge behind. She nodded to herself at the little brightness of mind in a random situation, and continued their path. Adrianna suddenly spoke. Meenauh carefully listened to the girl's train of thoughts.
"My mother was a Hufflepuff too," she started her reply in a neutral tone, "and I am a Gryffindor, even though by whatever stereotype I and everyone else I knew expected to see me in Ravenclaw."
She remembered the bets her parents and their friends made before her time at Hogwarts and smiled. She remembered the frustration at being sorted at Gryffindor. And then the joy of recognising different parts of herself.
"And it turned out the Hat was right, you know," she paused at one compartment that seemed to have an empty seat, but a second later a ginger head popped from nowhere and sat down.
"Throughout the years I had found myself in various situations and in most of them I behaved like a Gryffindor," she paused her walk and pondered over that thought a little before continuing, "Or whatever people tend to see in a Gryffindor. It's really a stereotype. You can be a loyal and kind Gryffindor, or an ambitious and cunning Ravenclaw," she looked to the other side at the morning landscape and the sun blossoming on the horizon, "and I have met a few pretty grim and evil Hufflepuffs too." That one might have been actually a lie — she wasn't entirely sure they were from Hufflepuff, but days at the school taught her to not put labels on people.
"The Hat might know you better than you know yourself yet," she finally finished her monologue. And the girl rightfully asked for her name. Oh... right.
"Oh," she suddenly stopped and turned to Adrianna. The shift in concentration and the fact that she stopped motioning with her hands was accompanied by a loud thud of the trunk behind her. "Accept my apology that I haven't introduced myself properly — I'm Meenauh, like 'me' and 'now', a Gryffindor prefect."
Her face shone in a wide smile, and she turned around once again, snapped her fingers with the proper "Wingardium Leviosa!" and the trunk was up again. So they moved further.

Adrianna listened to the Meenauh’s wise words about the houses.
“Now I think about it, I could be in any house really,” she said, thinking out loud. “I honestly don’t know which one…”
She sat down next to the window in the compartment while Meenauh levitated the trunk. Adrianna drifted off into a daydream about Hogwarts.
After I get sorted, I’ll eat lots of delicious food and then we will go to bed. The beds will be comfy four-posters and they’ll have beautiful velvet curtains. The next day, I will go to my classes, maybe make a new friend and then I’ll have homework. I could study with my new friend in the common room or the library…
“I’m really excited, Meenauh,” said Adrianna, snapping back to reality. “It will be so… magical!”
Adrianna started to feel really tired and, soon enough, she drifted to sleep. She had a short dream, in which it was Christmas and she was at home with her parents. She was helping her mother cook the dinner and her father was setting the table. Then, they were sat eating, laughing, pulling crackers and chatting. Adrianna woke from this happy little dream and yawned. The sky was darkening outside the compartment window and the sun was slowly disappearing.

"Indeed, in any house," she repeated after Adrianna, "And you shouldn't really know, it's totally fine."
They've slowly passed through another car without any hint on having an empty seat at least in some compartment. It was becoming annoying, because Meenauh was really surprised on how it was possible to not have empty seats on the train.
By the end of their third car, Meenauh almost passed through the compartment that seemed not only having free seats, but actually a whole empty compartment. She opened the door and looked inside. The trunk has fallen down behind her back as she lost all concentration. After a quick lookout, she even thought of casting a Revealing Charm to make sure it was safe. But she quickly removed that thought and dragged the trunk into the compartment.
"So, here you are," she turned to Adrianna, "Lucky you are — getting to ride in an empty compartment is really a miracle. I wish I had my first run in an empty compartment," she laughed but just a little. She watched the girl getting to her seat and saying some final words to her. Meenauh smiled in response: "Have a nice ride, Adrianna," and she shut the door behind herself.
After a short and rushed (as she spent a little more than she planned) walk back to her own compartment to join her friends and enjoy the remaining time of the ride.

"Bye, Meenauh!" said Adrianna cheerfully as she sat down next to the window, feeling a gentle breeze brush against her face. The sunlight streamed through the glass, casting a warm glow in the room. She sighed contently, sinking into the soft cushion of her seat, and relished the peaceful ambiance around her. As her mind wandered, Adrianna began to reflect on the cherished memories she had created with her family, reminiscing about their joyful laughter and the comforting warmth of their embraces. She imagined the thrill of meeting new friends at Hogwarts, picturing the diverse group of students with whom she would share incredible adventures and forge lifelong bonds. The thought of exploring the magical castle's majestic halls and secret corridors filled her with an exhilarating sense of anticipation. Lost in her reverie, Adrianna's gaze shifted to the picturesque view outside the window, where the radiant hues of the sunset painted the sky in a breathtaking tapestry of oranges, pinks, and purples. She marveled at the beauty of nature's masterpiece and the tranquil serenity it evoked within her. But amidst all her musings, it was Hogwarts that occupied the forefront of her thoughts, as she envisioned the school's grandeur, its enchanting classes, and the possibility of unraveling the mysteries of magic that awaited her there.
As the sun fully set on the horizon, casting a warm golden glow across the landscape, the Hogwarts Express glided gracefully along the tracks, gradually slowing its momentum until it came to a gentle halt. The rhythmic clatter of wheels against the rails ceased, and a sense of anticipation and excitement permeated the air. As the train settled into stillness, a cacophony of voices erupted throughout the carriages, filling the space with a lively symphony of chatter and laughter. Students eagerly conversed, their voices intertwining in a vibrant tapestry of anticipation for the journey ahead.
Amidst the cheerful commotion, prefects clad in their distinguished robes began to make their rounds, their authoritative voices cutting through the buzz of excitement. With a mix of firmness and friendly guidance, they advised everyone to leave their belongings on the train, assuring them that their trunks and belongings would be transported to the castle separately. Adrianna, heeding their instructions, rose from her seat with a sense of eagerness and a touch of nervousness fluttering within her.
As she gazed upon her trunk perched securely on the luggage rack, she took a moment to admire the familiar sight of it. The worn leather, adorned with stickers and markings from previous years, held countless memories and possessions that would soon find their place in her new dormitory. Trusting in the instructions given, she left her trunk nestled safely in its spot, her excitement growing with each passing second.
Sliding open the compartment door, Adrianna joined the stream of fellow students who had begun to make their way toward the exit. The narrow corridor bustled with a sea of vibrant robes and animated conversations, a tapestry of colors and personalities that reflected the diversity of Hogwarts' student body. Eager to embark on this new chapter of her life, Adrianna followed the crowd, her steps light with anticipation, as they wound their way through the labyrinthine train corridors, guided by the soft glow of flickering lanterns overhead.
With each passing step, the murmurs of excitement and anticipation grew louder, an undercurrent of shared anticipation rippling through the throng of students. As they approached the exit, a rush of cool night air greeted them, carrying the enchanting scent of freshly fallen leaves and a hint of magic. Stepping onto the platform, Adrianna marveled at the awe-inspiring sight before her — the iconic castle silhouetted against the night sky, its towering turrets and majestic architecture standing as a testament to centuries of wizarding heritage.
Heart aflutter with a mix of nerves and exhilaration, Adrianna crossed the threshold from train to platform, fully immersing herself in the palpable excitement and energy that electrified the air. With each passing moment, she felt the weight of her anticipation lifting, replaced by a renewed sense of belonging and purpose. As she took her first steps toward the start of her Hogwarts journey, she couldn't help but imagine the countless friendships, extraordinary adventures, and magical discoveries that awaited her within the castle's storied walls.
