Books and new friend

Linda was still getting used to how big and spacious everything was here. She already got some favorite places and one of them was library. She didn't know anyone here yet, so books were one of the best way to spend free time.
This day was the same, or was it? She went to the library once lessons finished after leaving her bag in the dorm. Today she didn't know exactly what she wanted to read, so she just came to search.
She didn't like anything romantic, well except very few books, so she went directly to the favorite sections. Creatures. She wanted to read more about house elves and at the same time she was interested in knowing more about dragons and how to take care of them.
She took two books and went to search for a place to sit. Linda looked around the library and saw nice place where there was no one to be. That's a great place to sit. Surely I'll be able to read it in peace.
She came to the chair and sat down, putting book about dragons close to her and starting to read about house elves. It was quite interesting and had a lot of different information. She didn't know how to feel about them. She didn't know if they really liked to be without wands and obeying every command of their owners, but at the same time a lot depends on wizard as well, doesn't it? But been able to do magic without wand it sounds really cool.
She closed first book, putting it close to her and took another one. Dragons. This must be also really interesting to read about. She heard about them before, but she didn't see any of them before yet.

Books and new friend
Mellani entered the library. It was the one place where she actually felt comfortable in the whole of Hogwarts. It hadn't been long since she'd joined the wizarding world and she was pretty nervous about everything. She wondered how her parents and brother would react if she used magic in front of them. Well, anyways, that wasn't going to happen for a long time.
Mellani had been acing her classes and completing all her homework from the start. She didn't want to set a bad impression for herself. Being a muggleborn and also a Slytherin was supposed to be bad enough already.
She went over to the mystery section. This was her favorite section of the library. And as far as the reputation of Hogwarts went, she'd probably need the skills of a detective if she was to live without any trouble over here. She noticed another girl. That girl seemed to be going through the 'Creatures' section. This was one that spiked Mellani's curiosity often. How were there so many different creatures without the Muggles having any idea they existed anywhere except in fairy tales? It was almost like they were invisible to muggle eyes.
Mellani saw the girl sit over at a quiet place. She picked a mystery book and went over to sit near the other girl. Not too close, but not far either. She wasn't one who initiated conversations. But she didn't sit too far because this girl looked like a potential friend to her and she wasn't going to let go of that opportunity. So, if the other girl spoke first, maybe she'd have a new friend. Hopefully someone who could stay with her till the end.
She sighed softly and started reading, making many assumptions on who the killer could be early on. This book was very interesting and Mellani hoped she would find more such books in the library.

Books and new friend
Linda was so focused and interested in reading about house elves that she expected something at least same fascinating about dragons. She took this book and looked up to the room. She noticed a girl sitting here not far away from her.
Slytherin girl, when did she come here? But maybe she could become her friend. Linda was pureblood Gryffindor, which was nice, but being Gryffindor made her not having any friends from Slytherin. At least till now, but maybe now she would get one.
She didn't care about blood status, it was important what kind of person is to become a friend. So she looked at the book this girl was reading and caught herself on a thought that she didn't know what this book is. Well, it just makes it even more interesting.
"Hi, I am Linda Ramirez. What are you reading? I read a lot of books but I don't think I ever saw this one." This way was a nice way to start the conversation, or at least Linda really hoped so. Would this girl accept conversation, Linda didn't know. But she wasn't going to lose the chance of getting new friend just because of not finding words.

Books and new friend
Mellani could see the other girl looking at her. She seemed to be a Gryffindor. Not someone Mellani had seen before. And then the girl spoke. She had asked Mell what she was reading.
"I'm Mellani Miller. And I'm reading a mystery book called 'Good Girls Guide to Murder. What about you?" she responded to the other girl, kindly. Maybe she could be good friends with this girl. After all, she did like people who liked books. And she didn't have any friends in Hogwarts. So it would be good to finally have someone. Maybe.
She missed everyone back home but she guessed she would get over it soon enough. Sadly, phones didn't work well in the Wizarding World. She gave the other girl a small, shy smile. Linda had seemed eager to talk to her so, maybe, she was willing to be friends. Hopefully. She looked back to her book. She had been intrigued by the mystery and was hoping to finish the book as soon as possible. She didn't really know what else to say to Linda. She wasn't great at socializing. But she'd asked Linda what book she was reading so, maybe that would keep the conversation going and also keep it from becoming awkward. She hoped it would.

"Nice to meet you, Mellani. What is this book about? I was reading about house elves and now I was going to read about dragons." Linda kindly smiled and started to think about book Mellani named. This is surely something she didn't read earlier. "If you don't mind, after reading this book, could you tell me everything about it?" Linda really wanted to keep this talking going, so she would know more and hopefully they will be good friends for a long time.
She already liked this girl, there was something in her that was attracting Linda and giving her hope for a new friendship. Perhaps she could write a letter home today, telling she got a new friend. She was wondering sometimes, if they could be the type of friends who also spend time together outside Hogwarts, not just for Hogwarts friends. But all this had to wait a bit as all were just dreams and hopes till now. She wasn't sure if Mellani wants to be friends, but she really hoped for this.
I guess my hometown friends would be happy for me if they would know I got a new friend. But certainly I already have something to write in my diary later today.

"Oh, that sounds interesting! The book I'm reading is about a girl investigating a murder for her school project. It's really fun! And I don't mind telling you all about it, but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't like any spoilers, would you?" she said, her eyes twinkling as her fun nature became visible. She tilted her head and gave Linda a playful smile.
She liked this girl. She was sure that if they became good friends, it would be a friendship that lasted long. Something beautiful. She was glad that this girl had approached her. She didn't know why, but she felt like a void where her friends and family had been was slowly going to get filled as this girl came into her life. Of course, it would still remain partly empty. She always had held a special place in her heart for them and she wasn't going to let that go. Not now. Not ever. They deserved every bit of love they got.
But there was always place in one's heart for multiple people. And Mellani was going to let this new girl into hers if she was willing to come. If not, well, there were multiple others in this world. But Mellani was willing to give this friendship a shot. She was willing to have someone in this new place who she could trust as a friend. Because being alone was never a good thing.

"Right, you are right. I'll read it so maybe we could discuss it later." Linda now was ready to do everything what depended on her to be friends with Mellani. Maybe even best friends, that would be awesome. But now she needs to do everything to become friends.
Linda felt like she starts to like this girl more and more, as a friend as she is straight, but this could certainly become a lovely friendship. Maybe Mellani will be her first best friend here?
Surely it will not replace her friends she already has in her hometown, but there obviously will be a place for new. And it will be just wonderful to give this place to Mellani.
Linda couldn't explain, but she felt that she can trust her and they could even become best friends. Maybe she could offer Mellani to come with her on some holiday to her house, that would be great to let her family see her new friend and show her the garden in front of the house.
Again Linda found herself dreaming about all possibilities that can happen if only they become friends. "Do you mind me asking more about you? I just feel that I want to be friends with you, perhaps even best friends, so I would like us to get to know each other more if you don't mind. Surely we can do it later, so I don't bother you from reading this book." Linda hoped these words were okay and she wasn't too annoying. She didn't know how to say it better, but it was better to just say it so she could either become friends with Mellani or just talk about book.

Mellani nodded, "Yeah. We'll discuss it when you're done reading it." she responded, smiling. Linda was probably going to be the first friend she had who wasn't from Slytherin. That was good, right?
Mellani still felt nervous about being a muggleborn. How would Linda react to that? Would she start being rude and calling her the offensive thing they called muggleborns around here? It was Mudblood, wasn't it? Mellani hoped not. She could really see a good friendship in this girl and she hoped that her blood status wouldn't do anything to it. But she was still nervous so she wasn't going to say it. Not now anyways.
Then the girl asked her if she could ask more about her. Tough question. Mellani figured that if the girl was eager to know more, maybe she could. And if she didn't like what she heard and decided to end this friendship, well, that would be it. Whether this girl accepted Mellani as she was or wasn't would determine whether they could be true friends or not.
"Sure", Mellani responded to the girl, hoping she was making the right decision. She would like to get to know the other girl better too. And she shouldn't let her book come in between this friendship. Friends were more important than books. She wasn't sure she could be best friends with this girl yet. That was going to take time. But she sure could be good friends with her!

"Awesome. Now we surely will have something to discuss and reason to meet again." Linda smiled trying to remember the book she will need to read as she was really going to read it.
Now as Mellani also agreed on some questions, it's necessary to decide where to start. I guess I will start with simply asking to say about herself. Pretty popular question but it leaves choice for the one who is answering what to say. I don't want to force her to answer anything she wouldn't like.
"Tell me about yourself, please. Also I can tell you about me if you want." Linda felt a little bit nervous here, but it's better to know already now from the beginning if they could really be true friends. She was sure there will be nothing that Mellani could say to make her not wish becoming friends.
I know a lot of people care about blood status, but I don't care about it at all. The only thing is that if this girl is muggle born, she will be able to finally know more things about there world. She was finding it very interesting, besides maybe she could even help Mellani sometimes with something. Also even if she will be pureblood, it doesn't matter as well. There surely will be some common interests that they could discuss, at least books. It was time to know the answer on the main question Linda was interested in since she saw this girl: will they become true or even best friends or not.

Mellani nodded. They would have something to discuss later on. She wondered what the other girl would ask her and how she was supposed to respond to whatever she did ask.
Then the girl asked her question. And surprisingly, it was an open one. Mellani was free to share what she wanted to and not share what she didn't want to. Cool, right? "Um, so I'm Mellani although my friends call me different nicknames so, feel free to choose one! I'm from a place called Heywood in England and..." she hesitated and took a deep breath. She was finally going to tell this girl about her being muggle-born. "Well, I lived with a Muggle family and went to school there. I also have an older brother... Why don't you tell me about yourself now?" she asked, hoping the girl wouldn't just leave at the mention of Mellani being muggle-born.
She'd asked the girl the same question. Maybe because she didn't know what else to ask. Maybe because she wanted to know how much the girl would share with her. "And... feel free to ask me any other questions you might have about me." she added, more like an overthought. She knew she had said too less. But then, she hadn't exactly know what else there was to say.
