Time For These Two To Get Along
Mateo had everything ready for when the two trouble-makers would appear for their detention after the mayhem from the previous day. He wasn't used to giving detentions, but he had a good idea in mind, and it would also require the two to work together. Hopefully, it would teach them both to get along and put aside whatever silly thing had begun the fight in the first place.
He smiled at them as they arrived, and when they were both here, he would lead them over to one of the rows of shelves, oddly empty.
"So, welcome, and thank you for showing up. Though, I am sure you both knew the consequences if you didn't. Now, today, I have an incredibly fun task for you both."
With a sharp click of his fingers, two duster rags would appear in his hands, and he handed them to the pair. "These shelves don't get cleaned too regularly, as you can imagine, but I had the books on this shelf removed just so you could get to cleaning. But afterwards, the books have to be replaced on the shelves. Now, normally I would get my house-elves to help me out with this, but I figure that this can teach you both an important lesson. And, if you learn to work together, you can both get it done faster and get on with your day. Oh, and no magic allowed. You have to put in the work to make it worth it. Let me know when you've finished cleaning, and then I'll give you the books to reshelve."

Time For These Two To Get Along

I walk into the library begrudgingly and prepare for my detention I have to serve. I was hoping my little apology would have gotten me out of punishment but it did not. I genuinly do not feel bad. Mellani knows what she did. The librarian smiles at me and explains the "extermely fun task" and I grimace. I was hoping this would be laid back and I could read a book or somthing. I guess that was never gonna happen. I grab a rag and kneel down to start washing the nasty shelves. There is a layer of dust I wipe off rolling my eyes. I should not have cast that damn spell!
All of a sudden a big black spider scurrys out from behind the shelve and I shriek. Oh no I hate spiders! I really wish Pepper was here to get the spider. It is about the size of a DVD disc and is black. It has fine hairs on its legs and beady black eyes. I leap back from the shelf and look up at the librairian.
"Will ya kill it? Sorry I am deathly afraid of spiders! They are rather disgusting!" I cry. I move to another shelf and start cleaning that one too. So much dust! Hopefully no more spiders! As I finish up the last shelf I go up to the librarian.
"-ello. I finshed cleaning the shelves. Thank goodness there are no more folesome evil spiders!" I say to him. I finally realize his name is Proffesor Mateo. As I shelve books I think about how we were fighting over Luci and I feel guilty. I know he was watching. After detention I will need to apoligize to him. And if Luci is there Colin was probably there as well. Welp we had a whole audience!
Proff Mateo hands me a comple of books and I sort them in alphebetical order. I sing my Abc's once because my mind wanders several times. It is hard to keep all of my ideas and stuff straight! I crouch once again and stick them on the shelves. They are even and neat and I stand up to admire my work. Yes I beileve I did well. I walk up to Proff Mateo and smile warmly.
"Is this a good enough job? The books are straight and neat!" I say. I really hope I can leave.

Time For These Two To Get Along
Mellani entered the library. This was the first time she was getting detention in her entire life. And yes, that included muggle school. She looked at the librarian as her smiled and told them what to do. Well, that seemed pretty easy. Except the work with each other part. Mellani wasn't going to do that. She'd rather waste her whole day in detention than talk or work with Opal.
She takes a rag and starts off cleaning the shelves. She was pretty fast at it. This wasn't the first time she was cleaning so she was used to it. She wasn't in a great mood. She'd been feeling really lonely lately and the one thing that could make her feel better was reading. But after what had happened the previous day, even reading didn't help. Because all Mellani remembered when she touched a book was throwing the book and Opal and how that had landed her in detention.
She glanced at Opal when she heard the yell. Seriously? That girl was such a kid! Who was afraid of spiders? If Opal hadn't asked the librarian to kill it, Mellani would have killed it herself if only to make Opal shut up.
She cleaned each and every shelve methodically such that you could see your reflection in them. After she was done cleaning all the shelves Opal hadn't cleaned, she went to the librarian, asked him for the books and took them. She quietly reshelved them according to genre. She cringed when she heard Opal sing the abc song. Was she okay? That is something you learn in kindergarten and it's a song only five year olds sing. Not eleven or twelve year olds like Opal! But she ignored it and continued keeping the books, nice and neat, memories of the previous day flashing when she picked up each and every one of them. At one point, she almost dropped a book, overcome by a sense of dizziness. She kept the book on the shelve and held her head for two seconds, blinking to clear her thoughts. This was just a detention. She was totally okay.
Mellani kept trying to convince herself using these two sentences. But deep in her heart, she knew she wasn't okay. She knew she needed someone who could understand her. And she hated herself. Hated herself for ever playing Spin the Bottle. Hated herself for literally stating who she snogged to Opal such that it would seem like she actually cared.
Mellani had a sharp hearing. So she knew who the spectators were and what they were talking about even though she didn't as much as glance at them. She knew what they had thought about her. She'd recognized all three of them by voice. Colin, Luci and Alora, the dungbomb girl. They all thought that she had had a fight with Opal because of Luci and how many times they'd snogged. Ew. That was the last thing Mellani would have a fight on. All she had done was stand up for herself. She didn't care about how many times she'd snogged Luci or not. But well, people believed what they wanted to believe and it was pretty clear that the spectators weren't exceptions.
Mellani really wished that she hadn't thrown the book at Opal. Maybe then, her life would be much better. She wouldn't have been punished. Neither by the prefect nor by the librarian. But undoing the past wasn't something Mellani knew how to do.
Mellani was finally done keeping all the books. She went to the librarian. "I'm done.", was all she said, waiting for the librarian to tell her she could go.
