Gloomy Moods and Later Regrets
April 17, 2023
To say Logan was miserable would be an understatement. Since the start of the year, the girl felt like everything had been going downhill and nothing was going how she thought it would. First one of her best friends was gone, he was not dead just no longer around, then she was just absolutely awful at dueling. Yes, she had won the second match with Dorian but still. The fall ball was about as chaotic as ever and she felt like she never even got to enjoy it. Now here she was, laying on a bench in the courtyard just wanting to disappear.
The Hufflepuff had thought about sending a letter to her father, attempt to convince him to allow her to attend Durmstrang in September. It would not be that much different then how things were here. The girl barely had any friends and the ones she had she barely interacted with in the first place, she might as well give them some more time for their other friends by just going to a new school. Logan thought better of it though, at least for the time being. Maybe things would get better for her, even though Spring break did not give her hope of that.
Glancing over across the courtyard, the fourth year just sighed as she rolled back over onto her back and lay her arm over her eyes. Why could things not just be easy, make friends, pass all of her classes, graduate, and live a good life. But no, unexpected events just had to be thrown into the mix and you actually had to interact with people when attempting to make friends. The girl was just not having a good year and she groaned in frustration at just the mere thought of having to go back into the castle and attempt to interact with others. Logan should have looked around to make sure that their was no one else around before groaning in frustration, as to not embarrass herself, but it did not really matter at this point.

The last few days had been quite dreary. I had spent most of them on my own in the library or in the common room, and it was surprising since I hardly ever went in the common room. All the homework made me tired, and It made me miss the cloudy weather that it had used to be. But, at least I could catch up on my homework, which wasn't all bad. But it could be a lot better if I go outside for a change.
Even though it was cold this morning, it had gotten warmer in the afternoon, so I decided to go outside, get some fresh air, get out of the stuffy library, read a book, something, anything that would make me forget that I still had homework and only about 3 months left of school. I wouldn't consider the last thought a very comforting thought, though. Grabbing a muggle book called Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy from the Library, I went outside. I thought about going out on the grounds but decided to go to a more sheltered area instead.
I switched my route and arrived at the Courtyard. I didn't go here too often, only when I knew that people were sure to be here, and I was considering coming here some more. Entering the courtyard with a slight hop in my step, I was looking for a good area to sit and read my book when I heard something. No- scratch that- someone. It sounded like a groan of frustration to me. I was confused. Who was that? And were they okay? And this is why I don't often come to the courtyard, I thought to myself privately.
I searched for the source of the noise until I saw a girl lying on a bench in the courtyard. She looked upset. She had long, dark brown hair, and she was for sure, most definitely older than I was. I took a careful step forward, though I was still watching from afar. Was she okay? And why did she look so familiar? Now I remembered. I had seen her around the common room, during my first couple of months here. Now I knew that she was a Hufflepuff, like me.
I inhaled a deep breath and asked in a voice much more high-pitched than I meant it to sound, "H-Hello? Are you alright? Do you need any help?" As I was second guessing my choice of words like usual, and wondering just how small and stupid I sounded, I got closer to the bench where the girl was lying. Had I said the wrong thing? Probably, or probably not, I'd just have to wait and see.

Gloomy Moods and Later Regrets
Logan's eyes snapped open at the sound of someone walking closer to her and then asking if she was okay and needed help. Did she look like she was okay? She was laying on a bench outside looking as miserable as always, of course she was not okay. And given her current mood, the Hufflepuff was unable to keep her mouth shut. "Do I look like I am okay?" she snapped, not even bothering to look up and see who she was speaking to. The girl was definitely going to regret it later, but for the moment she was to deep into her feelings to back down now.
Quickly sitting up, the girl swung her legs over the bench to sit how she normally should, finally taking her first glance at whoever was looking at her. "Why did you even walk up to me anyway? Most sane people would have taken one look at me and avoided me, yet you asked if I was okay?" Logan was actually curious about this, people would normally avoid someone who looked like they were having a mental breakdown in the middle of the courtyard yet this young girl had just walked up to her like it was no problem.
OOC Note: I realized I forgot to put the date on the first post, since it takes place after spring break you may need to change the date on your posts

As I was standing by the older girl, she seemed to know I was there. At first, it looked like she wasn't going to say anything until she seemed to snap. I jumped at the sound of her voice for a second, then looked at her, a bit worried. Part of me wanted to slowly back away, but I just couldn't move. Or I wouldn't let myself move.
Well, sorry I asked, I thought, but what I really said was, "Well, no actually, you don't...you just seemed quite unhappy..." in a voice more quite and timid than I had wanted it to be. I sighed as I listened to the girl furthermore, feeling quite unhappy myself. Obviously something was wrong.
Even though I wanted to know what was bothering her or what was on her mind, I knew that was rude, and I didn't. I could do without knowing. In response to the older girl's question, I answered, "Well, like I said, you seemed very bothered, and, being the Hufflepuff I am, I guess I wanted to help somehow, though I don't have to know what's going on..."
And then I added, "Well then, does that make me insane?" I shrugged. "I'm very sure that there are people who would stop and help, and I asked because I was concerned." There really wasn't a lot for me to say, since a lot of this seemed like common sense to your average citizen.
Well, unless you weren't an average citizen at all, of course. I wanted to ask the older girl again if she was okay, but I wondered if I had said enough. "I-If you want to be alone, I-I'll go," I stammered, getting ready to leave. I really hoped that the girl would be okay, I really did. But, I was sure that I was simply just getting in the way.

OOC note: Is this a good date? I think it's the day right after Spring Break ends.

Gloomy Moods and Later Regrets
@Aurora GriffithLogan sighed as she listened to the girl ramble, something about it calming her down just the slightest. She could feel the regret settling into her chest at having snapped at the girl, something she normally would not have done. "Clearly you have not met many of the older students here," she said, glancing over at the younger girl, "I know quite a few people who would rather avoid interacting with anyone than walk up to someone and ask if they were okay." At this point Logan was speaking in a much softer, calmer voice, preparing in her head a way to apologize to the girl for having snapped at her.
Quickly glancing at the girl, Logan shook her head at the mention of leaving. "No it is okay, you can stay if you would like." The girl offered for the other to sit down if she wanted. Maybe she should attempt to befriend the girl, even just a little as a start to the apology. "I am sorry for snapping, trust me I regretted it the moment it happened." Taking a deep breath, Logan glanced out across the courtyard, watching as the occasional stray leaf blew around. She needed to work on her anger and how she reacted to different things. There was no reason for her to snap at someone just because she was in a bad mood, and she definitely needed to talk with her actual friends.
