A Letter For You

Classes had been going good so far these past few months, Raizel could already see the results of some of her studies in terms of spells and how to cast it although she is still struggling with her flying. That's something she should work on before this school year ends and flying does seem fun once you know to learn it at least. At the moment, now that she has free time before another class starts, she has decided to finally give someone a certain letter that she had found a day before and they will be meeting here, at the Hogwarts grounds.
It was wide, narrow paths weaving around the trees and some flower patches, stretching out as far as the eyes can see. Looking at the oaks and spruce around, one can't help but notice the parchments that had gotten caught on the branches of some of them. The young Gryffindor can't help but smile at the thought of someone studying up on those trees. She used to climb the tree near their home before and one time, she almost got hurt. Luckily, her magic awakened.
Raizel kept looking around to see if the person that she was meeting was already here before glancing down to the letter that she had found. It was weird, especially when she saw the one who did it but she couldn't recognize who that was. Not like she knows everyone after all. This letter could've been addressed to anyone named Avery but since the only Avery she knows is Avery Leveret, she had decided to at least give him the letter and possibly, get some information on what's going on, if the boy even knows what's up anyway.

┏ ┓-----T here must have been some mistake.
He had been walking between classes when Raizel had caught him, claiming she had something important for him and that they should meet on the grounds. It was all over rather quick for his tastes. He had a hunger for answers, to find out what it was she was talking about. It consumed his mind in the classes he had after, and he thought of nothing else when he'd returned to the common-room for the evening.
Now the time had come. In his black robes, he left the castle in pursuit of Raizel. In his journeying to the spot she had detailed, he thought that he hadn't caught up with her lately; and he should be sure to ask her when he found her, else he might come across cold. He was cold, in both senses of the word, but he thought that Raizel was endearing. He hoped that in the time they hadn't spoken, she had honed her both her skill, but chiefly her confidence, as he had hoped and realised for himself.
He was late to the spot, walking down the dirt path carefully, ensuring that he didn't get caught in any of the twisting roots of the trees that surrounded them. Upon seeing the familiar girl in her own school robes, he smiled and nodded his black-bobbed head, approaching yet still to get to conversational distance. With a small smile upon his thin lips, Avery glanced at her with the dark eyes that held the same curiosity they did on the first day they had met.
"Raizel Voltrouz, imagine the worry you've caused me..." He said in a feigned tone, jesting as he gave her a wide grin. "Kidding. -- Though I have been racking my brain as to what this could be about. If you wanted my attention, you've certainly got it." He gave, eyes squinting a tad as though to try and work her out before she could even open her mouth, and yet silently waiting for her mercy in ending his mental torment. Pride was both a wonderful and a horrid thing, and somehow he had turned this into a horrid-pride thing. Had she possibly learned of his father?

Come to think of it, when was the last time she had seen Avery? Truth be told, she does see him in the classes that she shares with him but it was hard for her to approach him since they do have their own group of friends and also because of their class schedules. The moment that she managed to get a hold of him finally, she wanted to immediately engage in a conversation, ask how he’s been and catch up with what’s going on with her friend but the short time they have between classes won’t be enough for it. She told him a meeting place instead, leaving a couple of details out as it would be better for her to explain those once they have more time for a discussion.
Perhaps finding that letter was a blessing, giving her a reason to meet him again. That aside though, it does make her a bit concerned about him. Looking at the letter, its contents, whoever sent this wanted to meet a certain person named Avery that much. They had made quite a mess in where they left it too, maybe a way to get the attention of someone who could find it or even the person it was originally addressed to.
The familiar voice of Avery soon reached her ears, a smile slowly formed on her face turning into a grin as soon as she saw him there, finally arriving at their meeting place. That smile was just as bright and genuine as what she had shown him back in the train where they first met. She still has a lot to do with her confidence but she has certainly improved a bit on that part ever since then. The hat had surely chosen the right house for her where she could improve herself in terms of that. “Avery, it’s been a while.” she greeted him, letting out a soft chuckle once she heard him say that he had been curious about the reason that she had decided to meet with him. “It’s just about something that I stumbled upon yesterday that might pique your interest.” The girl showed him the letter that she had found, offering it to him. “Also, like I said before, it’s been a while. Might as well take this chance to catch up, don’t you think?” the smile on her face never left as she said to him. “Hope you are doing well.”"Raizel Voltrouz, imagine the worry you've caused me..."

┏ ┓-----T he pale boy smiled at that.
“Of course we can catch up.” He said, of course, after he had taken the given letter and begun to finger the paper open so he could read its contents with a gaze that danced between them. He wasn’t going to scorn the first student he’d met at the school, less so on that had something for him.
His dark and sharp eyebrows knitted into a frown.
“March 20th. That’s two days from now.” He remarked, mostly to himself as if the note had pulled his entire attention. With delicate fingers he folded the note, sharply ironing it in two with purposeful movements of his hands as he considered it still. He chose not to ask questions yet, that would be too rude, even for him. With his naturally suspicious predisposition, and his intense and probing eyes sat just below, a single eyebrow raised high into his forehead.
“I suppose I’m okay. - How have you been? It’s been a fair while indeed.” He smiled again, reassuringly. He had let his mask slip again, as he had done on their journey to Hogwarts together. Avery was left wondering if she had a way about her that caused such, or if he was just soft. Either way, it seemed like she was a better version of the Raizel he had met before, and he liked her this way; she didn’t have to seek him out for this after all.
“How are you finding Hogwarts? – Not too daunting I hope. I learned the spell we spoke about on the train by the way.” He said, as though that thought had just come into his head. They had previously judged the spell on the train, after having found it in one of their textbooks. Avery had even remarked it to be ‘yet another pranking spell’ and yet it was probably the worst of the spells in his arsenal. His dark eyes waited on her, as if trying to see if she could remember which spell he referred to, daring to test her; curious to see if she had kept up. It had been a long time since the train journey, but Avery was always mindful of those he kept company with; perhaps this was another way he could try and figure her out, before he’d try and figure out the author of the note.
After all, figuring people out was his favourite pastime, what made them tick, what made them freeze.

The young Gryffindor had felt quite happy when the boy said they could catch up with each other. He is her first friend, and she sure hopes he still feels the same despite then not having a lot of time engaging into deep conversations much like back in the Hogwarts Express. Raizel let him read the contents of the letter first, observing him and it seems like she was right that it would catch his interest. "I've been doing great as well. Classes are so much fun." Raizel answered him, her dark brown eyes gleaming with the excitement at the thought of some of the classes that they have. While some subjects weren't exactly her favorite, she still managed through them. It was a struggle but she was too eager to learn the spells that each lesson has to offer. That was what had given her determination to the very end.
"Oh, no, not that daunting, most of the time anyway." She snickered. "At first, it was intimidating, especially on the first day of classes but after that, I got used to it. Do enjoy a bit of exploring despite the fact that you could get lost. But that's part of the adventure." Raizel grinned. Adventuring has always been fun for her, a part of her, even if she denies it at times. Although she can be a nervous wreck at first, once she has adapted, the mischievous and adventurous side of her awakens. "Bet you have seen a couple of places here. Maybe secret spots and such." With a castle this big, there's bound to be secrets waiting to unfold.
"The curse of bogies?" She asked him with a bit of excitement, glad that he had learned that. He stated before that he wanted to learn that one on their first meeting back on the train and who knew that it was actually that bad. "Hope you still remember your promise then and I'll do the same." She had learned how to cast it as well but if someone had promised they won't use it on her, then she won't use it on them as well. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you as the saying goes. "Learning spells is quite fun, don't you think?" Those spells could really get her excitement going. She loves them, especially her charms. Drawn to them since she was young and Hogwarts just made her love it more along with her DADA and many more.
She paused to calm herself down from all that excitement. The talk about spells and the fact that she finally got the chance to talk with her first friend had greatly contributed to that. "Anyway, the letter. Stumbled upon it in the potion classroom. Whoever did it was certainly trying to get someone's attention considering the mess they made before they left. Heard them yell something along the lines of 'Snakes and looking for an Avery.' You're the only Avery I know and it was such a coincidence that they were looking for a Slytherin too. Are there any other Avery in your house?" Raizel asked with genuine curiosity and a little bit of seriousness in her tone, something that isn't usually heard from her unless the situation demands it. She wants to know what's going on and what could've sparked it. Perhaps she is jumping into the conclusion too quickly because of the clues she got but those coincidences are just too intriguing for her to let go off.

┏ ┓-----A smile stretched across his pale face, a rare occasion that often held dual meaning.
In this instance it seemed genuine, as he regarded her nod, a kind of acknowledgement that spoke of the honouring of his own word that he rarely contravened.
“I wouldn’t dream of it, unless I find you opposite me at the piste.” He grinned at her, playfully. It was a jest, as he intended to create a reputation around his keeping of promises, but his general candour could easily make her wary of that. He moved on, sending his dark eyes around their clearing for a moment.
“Exploring the castle and the grounds has probably been the second-most enjoyable thing, I’ll admit. - It’s good to have a sense of adventure, of daring. I told you Gryffindor would be lucky.” He smiled mysteriously then, as she spoke about him having secret places.
“A handful, but I need more. – Just when I think I’m alone, someone comes along.” He hummed in amusement, not letting on how much it truly bothered him. “Know any you can share?” He tried to pry that out of her, with a winsome smile. Avery liked her, but he liked taking people apart and figuring out what made them tick, what their faults were, their favourite x, y and z’s, more than anything; and she wasn’t exempt from his appetite.
Quizzically, he raised his brows. Someone had been trashing a classroom to get his attention. Who? Was his initial thought. His thin lips knitted into a twisted depiction of a thought, as he battled with suggestions internally. Lucian? No. Colin? Well he’s the sort but they saw each other in the common-room all too often for something like this. But then she made the good point that it could be any Avery, and that only muddied things. Now he had to make a decision if he was going to attend this meeting, and risk appearing presumptuous. Of course, Avery Leveret would choose that outcome regardless, but the implications did float across his mind, if only for a second or two.
“I’m sure there is at least one other Slytherin Avery, and potions is rather nondescript a place to try and find a Slytherin. It’s not as though it’s my favourite class or something. – Thanks for bringing this to me Raizel. I’m not sure what it means or what will come of it, but I appreciate that you did something about it. I’m sure there are others who would have cast it off as some kind of loony-prank.” He mused, though a hint of sincerity graced his words lightly.

Opposite of the piste huh, Raizel thought as she observed the boy's reaction about that promise that he made before. She can be too trusting of others, she knows that herself although that doesn't mean that she's that naive. She's more observant than what other people may think. Right now, she trusts him that he'll keep his words, especially with the way he said it to her with what seems to be a genuine smile. "I sure am looking forward to a duel against you." Raizel replied to him. It could be a great experience, whether she wins or loses and dueling will help in learning more about someone.
"The whole school just seems very fascinating and places are there, waiting to be discovered." Raizel told him as she looked at him, his expressions quite intriguing and sparking her curiosity, her observant nature showing but then she just chuckled. Perhaps he found a secret place, perhaps he didn't. She won't pry on that too much, wanting to respect someone else's privacy. "Wasn't expecting the result of the sorting but yeah, guess they are lucky." She gave herself some time to let what she's been told to sink in her mind before responding to Avery once more.
"Ah, they kept on stumbling upon your practice sessions?" She asked him as he mentioned about people stumbling upon him when he is minding his own business. People here at Hogwarts do love exploring so it won't be a surprise if someone else knows your secret spots for they might have discovered it before you did. "And I do know a couple of spells that they teach in class but I doubt you haven't learned about them since we do have the same classes." Raizel answered his question about the spells. "So I might not have new ones that I could tell you." She said that to him as she glanced up, thinking about it. There is no way the boy would've let those lessons that taught spells passed, especially charms and DADA so he might already know them, perhaps even a lot more than what she does. Then again, she does have a couple of tricks but that's something that she'll keep to herself for now. Even if they are friends, there are things that she'd like to stay in the shadows.
"I supposed if there is another, then it might be them but who knows really." Raizel shrugged. "Do you have any idea who would do this though? Ah, you don't have to answer that if it's something personal. I understand." She was just curious on this current situation. The boy seems to be pondering on who it might be and probably have a few names in mind at the moment. There is no way that he won't be suspecting a couple of people that he knows, especially if they have a grudge against him or something. "And it's nothing. Just thought that since they went all that risk of getting into trouble and catching someone's attention, it must something important. Guess it is now up to you whether to show up or perhaps, even show it to another Avery in Slytherin. Not to mention, the letter is quite intriguing, don't you think?"

A Letter For You
What young Avery did not know was that this was no prank. The Slytherin pureblood first year shared a name with another Avery, several in fact. The pureblood Avery line being the most notable, of which there were four, although come to think of it, none of them had been seen in some time. The given name is also rather common, second year @Avery Chen of Slytherin and Hufflepuffs @Avery Gallows and @Avery McCall all shared his name. It was a reasonable, no it was a perfectly likely conclusion to come to that the letter was intended to another.
Clark was many things, and overzealous characterized the hyperactive part goblin. However, the summons was legitimate even if the boy was blindly calling the boy's name out into the void. Just a house, Slytherin and a name Avery. Also, a blood status had he been paying attention, a wizard of some sort by blood, not by winning the genetic lottery like the muggleborn Avery Chen. Indeed, this letter was intended for none other than @Avery Leveret, a pureblood Slytherin first year. Like most purebloods, his lineage was well known, like a pedigree canine. His name, his legacy, his ties, relative importance and of course his likelihood to succeed on name alone. Some purebloods had it easier than others. Some would become targets of ne'er do wells and their fate, in spite of any advantages promised by blood and legacy would be diminished.
Someone or as terrifying as it might be to admit, something was calling out to him in the guise of a man. Why did they choose the part goblin @Clark Baird over other, more reliable and fastidious children? It was a mystery. The park goblin had sprinkled demands throughout the school calling the boy out by name, well first-name in any case: Avery. A demand for a time and a place with no answers and at the same time, placing all eyes on the first-year Slytherin youth.
Had it been his mother, a friend, or even an estranged family member, an owl emblazoned with his name would have sufficed. In the quiet privacy of his dorm he could have read the contents of this message in silence, without stirring the interest, curiosity or concern of his peers. The problem here was, even this early on, nobody was asking the 'right question' if any question at all.

Avery's Speech
· || ──────────────────────────────────── || ·
┏ ┓-----A very was thankfully, and almost blissfully unaware of the guiding hand of fate that seemed to be meddling with him and all those currently embroiled in its careful game.
He was aware of another ‘Avery’, one of the first string chasers for the house team. He was a second year student, and likely far better connected within the school than he. Whilst Raizel spoke, his mind kept wandering to the idea of a secret moot at the Astronomy tower; though upon a second glance to the note the lack of a time on the note meant that Avery had a new trouble to deal with. The 20th was a Monday, and Monday meant classes. Would he seriously skip a whole day’s worth of classes to try and catch the note writer and whichever Avery they had intended to attract. Then again, if he was the only Avery to have gotten the note; he’d have to at least have some kind of excuse, or pretend to have a reason to be up there or; he could be honest. That was unlikely, something felt odd about this.
He decided he would try his luck at some point that day, to see if he could catch the note-writer; if they even existed. It crossed his mind that perhaps his first instinct was correct, that this was some kind of prank and he was due to be framed from some kind of rule breaking. If that was the case, Avery Leveret was the proud sort who would relish in taking apart this operation and returning fire upon those who had laid this trap. His mind was alive with all sorts of theories; another thing to swallow his focus, whole.
“Then duel we shall, soon. - I’ve uh, got some homework that’s due soon. Professor asked for 5 feet on Redcaps! He said, snapping back into the conversation with relative ease, having that strange ability to both listen and not listen; naturally detecting the ebbs and flows of the subtleties of conversation. He had lied, but he knew that if he had said yes his attention would be forced from this note, the culprit, and that wasn’t to do. It was as though Hogwarts was offering him his first mystery to conquer, his first real challenge.
Avery’s thin lips pulled into a smile when she deflected about knowing different spells to him; he had heard rumours about her aptitude being noted, and it wouldn’t surprise him if she was taken on for extra classes. “You seem to do well in most of our classes, I’ll admit.” He added, genuine again. What was wrong with him? Perhaps he felt like he owed her that much, for bringing him this prize.
“Intriguing? I don’t know. Could turn out to be an annoyance, especially if whoever left it was trashing classrooms. I don’t know what to think of it, and I’ve no idea who could possibly be behind it. There are a few pranksters in Slytherin, but why would they go to this effort; and why would they have yelled for an Avery in Slytherin. – Too many questions. Maybe I’ll let you know if anything happens on Monday!” He grinned at her then, it wasn’t a promise, but it was somewhat thankful.┗ ┛

Raizel is unaware of whatever the mystery surrounding this handwritten note that she had found yesterday, of what is lurking within the shadows. Perhaps those are something that she shouldn't get involved in. Even so, this note was just shouting as another intriguing adventure for and she sure would like to see its development.
Glancing back at the note once again, she started thinking about it. Something about it was just sparking up her curiosity the more she dwells on it. Who was the one that thrashed the potion classroom, going through the risk of possibly getting into trouble with the professors just for a note? Dismissing it as a mere prank doesn't seem to be right in this case. Sure, perhaps it could just be an elaborate prank to get Avery into trouble but there has to be more to it than what meets the eyes. As those thoughts linger in her mind, she can't help but drop that smile of hers, her expression, for a brief moment, turned into a serious frown. 20th of March, on a Monday. They have classes that time so that means whoever wrote this will probably skip the whole day and from the looks of it, Avery seems willing enough to skip as well just to get to the bottom of this which she understands. She too, would be willing enough to skip a day to finally know the mystery behind the note.
As soon as Avery spoke, Raizel set those thoughts aside for now, quickly shifting into a smile as she threw that serious expression once more. She will still continue to ponder about them for the rest of the day though. Intriguing things like this tend to linger in her mind until she has found an answer to it. "Great! I'll be looking forward to it." That was no lie, she is excited to face off against her friend in a duel. It should be a brilliant experience and she won't let it pass. "Ah, homework. Wish you luck on that assignment then." She grinned just as she finished saying that before she started listening to him once more. "Oh, well, guess you could say it's because they are very interesting. Can't help but put in effort in them." She chuckled.
"I supposed that is true. Could just become something troublesome. Too bad I didn't get to see clearly whoever did it, or even their house. Maybe that could've been a great help. I do appreciate it if you tell me the development of this… meeting you'll be going on Monday and I know that I shouldn't be getting involved in this too much but remember what I said back in the train? If you need help or maybe company, feel free to give me a shout. I'll be there. Not like I am that hard to find." Raizel offered to him, wanting to keep her word and not to mention, he had greatly helped her that time, making her feel so relaxed throughout the whole ride to Hogwarts. She would like to repay the help that he had gave her that day. "Anyway." She clapped her hands together, showing Avery a bright smile. "I don't want to keep you from doing your homework. Again, I wish you luck on that."
