Classes had been really pushing the first years during these last few months while they tried to get them past being new and adjusting to the tremendous world of Hogwarts into spell slinging, eager sponges ready to soak up as much as they possibly could. For Harlan, he found himself excited with classes like Flying, Charms, and Transfiguration but there were classes that he simply couldn’t wrap his head around. Astronomy and History of Magic kept him properly bored and practically falling asleep while trying to take notes. Luckily there were other lions and now he sat in the Gryffindor Common Room with a bewitched quill copying over the notes from one of his friends but the notes hardly made any sense at all. What good would this be if he didn’t even understand what was trying to be said?

With an almost defeated sigh, Harlan sucked in air through his teeth before scanning the Common Room area for someone who looked young enough to be a first year. He still hadn’t known everyone in his classes being in school for the better half of the whole academic school year but he still had time to turn this year around and start to make the friends his older sister and parents talked about.

“ Hey, sorry to bother you, but I think you’re in my Astronomy class. Do you happen to have your notes? I borrowed some but I can’t read their handwriting, looks more like random scratches on a peg than someone’s handwriting. ” Perhaps a little harsh, but Harlan was simply speaking his truth.

“ Harlan, by the way. ” He offered the ginger girl a handshake and an awkward prepubescent smile trying to exude charm when in actuality, it probably felt more like an intense uncomfort.
