Yuck!
Upon hearing that the Beauxbatons Academy was coming to Hogwarts, Ciel hurriedly rushed to the owlery. Except it had taken her nearly the entire week to get up there. From both the entire school being a huge chaotic mess due to the visitations of other magical schools, and also her inability to keep up with the demanding amounts of schoolwork- Ciel was a busy bee.
But she had to know if he was coming to Hogwarts, and the one person who would know, well, she wasn't at Hogwarts. So as Ciel rushed up to the owlery, she was scribbling words on paper to ask her mother. The letter was rushed some of the words were smeared, but Ciel didn't care. If she didn't figure out whether or not he was coming to her school, she'd lose her mind.
As her feet stepped in the owlery, she was surprised to find a young man writing a letter as well. Disgust filled her mouth, and she stopped dead in her tracks. Luckily, he hadn't noticed her just yet- but of course, how would he? She was standing in his left field of view, and she knew he couldn't see out of his left eye.
"Aloysius," she sneered, both anger and annoyance rising in her voice. God, of course he was here! "I can't believe I'm being forced to see you again."
As Mathis turned around, there was a slight smile on his face- no, it wasn't a smile, it was a smirk. Of course, Mathis was still cocky as ever! The letter in her fingers seemed to feel heavier than ever. "Well! Look who it is, the one and only Saskia." Mathis chuckled, closing the letter he had been writing in. "You know, I'm just as surprised as you are. Who would've thought we'd both have a bit of magic in us, huh?"
Ciel scoffed. "You act like I want to see you. If it was up to me, I'd make sure I'd never have to see your ugly face ever again."
"You wound me, truly. One can't believe you're still so upset, mademoiselle. I haven't seen you or your family in so long!" Mathis put the letter in his pocket, instead reaching for someone else. Ciel barely had time to react when he pulled out his wand, it seemed to be just as ugly as him.
"Let's keep it that way- and put your stupid wand away. You couldn't hit me if I were five feet in front of you!" That wasn't entirely a lie, if both Ciel and Mathis were to be honest. Even though it had been a long time since either had seen each other, Ciel knew very well how bad Mathis' aim was. Though, she wondered if he had been practicing.
Before Mathis could respond, Ciel shoved her own letter in her pocket, but she didn't bother bringing out her own wand. She knew him very well, and Mathis would never have the gall to try and hurt her. He seemed to know what she was thinking, and he himself shoved the wand away. Of course!
"Well, mademoiselle, let me not stop you from sending your letter. I was just finishing up myself-"
"Can you stop calling me that? You seem to be even more insufferable than the last time I saw you." Ciel huffed. "It doesn't even matter, I'm not sending anything anyway!"
"Then surely you wouldn't mind escorting me back down to the campgrounds? I mean, wouldn't you feel so bad if one got hurt?"
Ugh! It was as if every time Ciel thought Mathis couldn't get more annoying, he managed to surprise her! She huffed, rolling her eyes, yuck!
Mathis was surprised by himself. Asking someone for help to get all the way up seven flights of stairs- well that in itself was a feat. Luckily though, someone was polite enough to walk him all the way up to the owlery. Not wanting to bother them anymore, he told them he would be alright getting back down. That was a lie, though.
But he had to send this letter. There was only one way to confirm if she was at Hogwarts. If Mathis didn't ask his mother, well, he'd be eaten up inside by curiosity. He hadn't seen her in so long, that he wondered if he would even recognize her. But he had been so consumed with finding a date for the Spring Ball, meeting in real life with Angelique, and taking walks around the outside areas of Hogwarts, he just hadn't had time to worry about her.
He had sat down inside of the owlery and began scribbling down some words to his mother, Élodie, to see if she knew anything about his old friend. Well, not that they ever considered themselves friends. If anything, the disgust she felt for him was equally returned. His mother would know best about her friend's daughter.
And then he heard footsteps and, as he had no reason to concern himself with someone else, he chose to ignore them. But then he heard a voice so clear that he thought he might've been hallucinating. Aloysius. Only one person ever bothered themselves with such a last name, and he knew immediately that he should've chosen tomorrow to go up instead.
Ciel Saskia hated Mathis Aloysius just as much as Mat hated her, and it had always been like that. Even when they were young and the two of them were always compared to one another. Even when their mothers were best friends- practically inseparable if you couldn't tell. The two of them had been so close they called each other sisters.
'How nice would it be if Ciel and Mat got married!' were words Mat and Ciel heard very often. Yes, those words were practically engrained in one another's brain, and that was where their hatred had started. But it had been so long since they had seen each other, Mat had vaguely wondered if Ciel even remembered him.
From her response upon the sight of him, Mat knew she did. When was the last time he had seen her? It must've been a bit after she got that horse of hers- he couldn't even remember the name of it. Four or five years, maybe? If there was one thing Mat could say about Ciel, it was definitely that that girl could hold a grudge.
There was something else he knew about her, and that was the fact that Ciel was a kind girl. He knew it wasn't right of him to ask her to walk him down to the campgrounds, but he also knew that she wouldn't say no. Besides, if he didn't ask her, there was no way to tell if someone else would come up and be as polite to walk him down. It was, as they say, now or never.
