Mathis wasn't entirely sure what he was doing. Well, that wasn't entirely true. He was writing a letter. But to who? To where? That was the part he was unsure of. He knew that he wanted to send it somewhere, he wanted someone to read what he had wrote but, who? He wanted to send this to a different school, but where could another wizard or witch even read this?
Then, it came to him. There were plenty of other magical schools he had heard of. He knew of Hogwarts- that was where the academy was going in April, but there were other schools too, right? He racked through his brain, trying to remember what other schools there were. Mahoutokoro was one, and Durmstrang was another, but he tried really hard to remember the others. The North American school, and the other one too.
But there was one school that stood out to him, the Russian school- what was it called? Kold... Koldovstoretz! Yes, that one. Mat imagined that that school must've been cold, considering where it was located. But besides the name and placement of the school, Mat knew little to nothing about it. So, he dated his letter and addressed it to the school. He prayed at least someone would find it.

Salut.
My name is Mathis Aloysius, and I'm a student (first year) at l'Académie de Magie Beauxbâtons, or Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. You can call me Mat or Aloy, if you so choose to respond to this letter of mine. Mat is a shortened version of my first name (as one could probably tell), and Aloy is a shortened version of one's last name. It's also the name of a protagonist in a video game series.
I'm a wizard but considering that this letter was addressed to your magical school, you probably already knew that. My parents are both "muggles", or just normal people. Their names are Élodie and Zane Aloysius. One assumes that you have parents as well, but I'm not sure whether or not they are also "muggles" or wizards like us. One hopes that if you choose to reply, you tell me.
Besides my parents, I'm also semi blind. I got in an accident when I was young and lost all sight in my left eye. The paper that you're reading this on is indented in the lines to help me stay on the same line. If that weren't the case, the sentences I'm writing would be lopsided.
What else? I'm coming to Hogwarts this April, and I know that your school is as well. But are you choosing to attend? There are some students at the Academy that are staying back, I'm sure it's the same at your school. Why would someone choose to stay at their own school, when they have the opportunity to travel to a different country? It's nerve-wracking for me but (and I'm assuming that you have vision in both of your eyes), that's because one can't walk up and down stairs without becoming lopsided and nearly falling. I know Hogwarts is a big castle, so one thinks that there's lots of stairs.
I think that's all I should talk about; after all, one isn't entirely sure that you'll even write a response. But I hope so, it'd be nice to make a friend across the country.

Angelique walked up to the Owlery Tower (Совиная башня) and looked at the view of her castle. It was beautiful, and she felt so lucky to be in it. Just then, an owl tapped her shoulder, it's dazzling amber eyes glowing and feathers ruffled from the journey. It held a letter, from someone called Mathis Aloysius. Angelique smiled as she read it, and set her parchment on the wall and began to write a reply.

It has been a pleasure to read your letter; it sounds as if you are nice! I suppose I should introduce myself: I'm Angelique Selemine, but I go by a great many nicknames. By all means, please invent one. However, most commonly I am known as Angel amongst my friends. But like you, I do have many names
Yes, I'm from Koldovstoretz, the Russian school. I'd say the weather is average, but deathly cold in the winter (although I enjoy the warm, summer days) but I'm happy here. I am also sooo excited for the trip to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry; although Koldovstoretz will always have a special place in my heart.
I'm Half-Blood. My Mother is a Witch, a jolly clever one too, I'd say. I'm an only child though, what about you? What is it like having two muggle parents, and how did you feel when you get your letter? I always knew that I would be a Witch, especially after magically moving a ball when I was training. I dance
I especially enjoy the Gymnastic ones with ribbons, they are fun- my mother says I was tumbling around the house doing cartwheels and standing upside down as soon as I could walk!
It must be pretty difficult having a bad eyesight - I feel sorry, because I have always been healthy as a...well, whatever is healthy. From what I've heard, people are friendly at Hogwarts and would be glad to help you out - if not, I'll always be there. Do you have any hobbies? I enjoy dancing (as I've already told you) and....er, acrobatics? That's the same thing....sports?
And while I'm writing, I've always wanted to ask: what is it like at l'Académie de Magie Beauxbâtons? It's always cool to find out new stuff about new schools and everything!
I hope to see you at Hogwarts, and of course, read more letters that you send me!

I'm glad to see your response. I had thought that maybe this letter would become a dud; after all, sending a letter to a school you've never been to with no real receiver in mind- well, that must be difficult for the owl, yes?
Anyway, one is also an only child. My parents had dealt with a loss before me, and therefore don't have plans to have another one. I don't really blame them. Not to mention, with my sight, it'd be difficult to adapt to another child in the house. I'm able to get around pretty easy as is, but I regularly bump into other people and other things.
Having two muggle parents is preferred, one thinks. Though I feel a bit of an outcast around pureblooded students, I can imagine they feel like an outcast to muggles. Do you personally care about muggles? I know that some wizards and witches don't, and it's admittedly bizarre to me. After all, they do take up most of the world's population.
When I received my 'letter' from the Academy, I was surprised myself. We don't get normal letters like I hear most schools do. My father got a feather that wrote all over his newspaper for the day, while my mother and I found it funny, him? Not so much. What about at Koldovstoretz?
It's not incredibly difficult, I'm lucky that I still have one functioning eye. There's a big difference between normal vision and monocular vision, but I wouldn't know how to explain it. It's like if you had one eye covered but still open, if that makes sense? You can tell it's trying to work but it's just not doing its job. Luckily though, my other senses make up for it.
I don't have a whole bunch of hobbies, since it's difficult for one to do anything in sports. I read a bit, though, and obviously write. Writing is why you got my letter, after all. I think gymnastics is a nice hobby for a lady, though. One imagines it must be fun, though.
At the Academy, I'm often overwhelmed by its size, and the number of students there. There are four floors, where one stays is the top floor, the third floor is mainly for the fine arts, the second floor is for classes, and the first floor is for the kitchens and meeting rooms. Stuff like that. It's a bit difficult to traverse the school, due to the staircases, but I've learned it all pretty well. What's it like at Koldovstoretz? You mentioned it's cold in the winter, but I assumed it'd be cold year-round.
Also, since you're attending Hogwarts as well, perhaps it'd make sense for us to meet up. One wouldn't mind having a conversation with you in person.

Oh dear, it does sound hard to have a bad eyesight (I bet it is). And sorry for your parents loss; I was born to them first, with no miscarriges and was really lucky, I suppose. They both love me dearly, as I do too. I especially enjoy baking with my Mother (my birthday is in May!) so I shall be probably making something with her then too.
Personally, I don't understand the difference between muggle borns and Pure-Bloods. It's just a title they give you, a label like black and white in the Muggle World. But what is the actual difference? DO they posses more magical blood? 'Bout the same, really, but how will it help them? Will it make them better at magic? No. So I strongly believe against Pure-Blood prejudice - I believe humans are all equal.
We just get a letter, and all Russian Witches and Wizards get to go there - but people from other countries may apply if they wish. What is the castle like? Koldovstoretz is actually half-hidden in the water, of the famous Lake Ladoga. To be honest, the castle s pretty large (I lost myself for two weeks straight) but luckily the elder students can be nice, and most showed me around for a bit. It's really big!

I feel bad for the owl, but its journey wasn't for naught! After all, it led me to be able to communicate with someone such as yourself. Koldovstoretz is very far away from the Academy though, I wonder just how far? We have so many countries that are in between us, one can imagine even something as swift as a broom ride would take ages.
My mother and father used to work quite a bit, but my father has taken less hours at his job so that way I'm rarely home alone. It must be nice to have such a lasting relationship with your mum! While my mother loves me, it's hard for us to have any kind of bonding ground; she's more into feminine things and I'm not- you can imagine how that ends for us.
Also, since your birthday is relatively soon, have you decided what kind of desserts you'll be making? If you make any desserts at all? One enjoys more plain flavors such as vanilla, and one cannot stand lemon or key lime pie, the tastes are awful on my tongue.
Koldovstoretz is under the water? That reminds me! I heard a rumor about Hogwarts- apparently one of the common rooms their students stay in is under their lake! Can you imagine sleeping under a lake with a giant squid in it? Do you think the squid has a name? If I had a giant squid living in a lake I'd probably name it Squiddy or something. I'm not very creative...
Now that I think about Hogwarts, I'm becoming more and more excited for the trip over there. The Spring Ball sounds like a good place for lots of secrets to unfold- if you get what I mean? I wonder if there will be lots of drama happening- I mean, of course there should be, right?

I am veryyyy excited for Hogwarts. It sounds so magical; so different, although I will have a hard time wandering around. I get lost easily but I'm fairly polite so I'll ask someone. I suppose it was lucky that I was born an only child, I get my parents to myself! Oh dear, I suppose that sounds dreadfully selfish, but I just love her so much.
The Spring Ball - that means dancing, won't it? I'm decent on stage at dancing, so it's not going to be too bad I suppose. Mainly because there are boys doting to ask me out.... I feel as if every drink I drink is containing poison (Love Potion) - but I would prefer to make some new accquintances. Like from other schools.
They all sound to cool - I will definatly enjoy my stay there, in our Carriage. I really hope to see you somewhere soon - and I really think that there will be drama. Because....well, seven schools, each with billions of pupils...and you say no chaos? Impossible.
If you are comfortable, we can meet before the main assembly (I assume they are going to have one) but just to meet you face to face. Let me know if you know any places - but I feel that I can already know you fairly well to recognize.

I don't know if exciting is the right word to use, what if the squid got upset and decided you were its next meal? I think I'd be too nervous to even sleep at night- oceanic (or really any kind of water) creatures are really not my favorite thing. Except seals- which one finds to be rather cute, though if I can recall, I believe they are somewhat timid.
Though one is a bit unbalanced, I'm not too bad at ballroom dancing. Do you think it'd be appropriate at the Spring Ball-? I'm assuming that it would be, since it is a ball, after all. Also, you must be quite a looker if boys are just doting on you! Though I haven't found myself a date yet either, I think I'll just go with someone from Hogwarts, since we will be at their school. That'd be the easiest bet.
One would like to meet you before the ball as well, but I'm not entirely sure you'd recognize me. My only real defining feature is my eye, but you can't tell unless you really pay attention. Not to mention, there would really be no way for me to recognize you. I've no clue what you look like! (Well, besides you being pretty enough for lads to dote on you.)
If you'd like, I can attach a picture of myself to the next letter I send, then there'd be no mix-up. One would hate for you to confuse me with another boy. Not to mention, a mix-up would be incredibly embarrassing!

Sorry, I'm really bad at this, my first time leaving a ball.My parents met actually on a Ball - although it was more like a party I suppose of their parents and they met another family - my dads, so they hit off immediately. It's really exciting for the Hexiwizard Tournament to be happening this year, my very first year at Koldovstoretz! I'm pretty sure my best friend is coming too so it will be fun to introduce you to her (well, I might need an introduction too haha). Have you chosen an outfit to wear yet? I'm still thinking....formal? Prom like? Party? Casual? Eruuugh. It takes ages for me to decide, although I must be pretty good at it after all the stage practices....

Don't worry, I've also attached a picture of myself. I don't have any muggle pictures of myself, but the one I sent was a picture a friend took of me a few weeks ago. One believes it should suffice, at least for now.
Tango sounds interesting. I've found that certain dances can be really intense if you're not entirely sure what you're doing, and tango is certainly one of them. If you need help, I'd be more than happy to show you some tips and tricks once we meet at Hogwarts. Though it's not the most masculine of hobbies, I still find myself enjoying a good tap dance or two.
I'm not entirely sure how my parents met, to be honest with you. I know that they met through a mutual friend but that's it. The mutual friend happens to be the mother of a girl I greatly dislike- and one has a deep fear that I might run into that girl at Hogwarts. I'm not too sure if she's attending the school, though. Ah, let me ask, is there anyone you hate- perhaps hate more than anyone else?
I'd be honored to meet your friend. From the letters we've sent back and forth so far, I find you to be a greatly enjoyable person- and one is quite sure your company would reflect that. Unless you're the kind of person who surrounds themselves with people that are the opposite of themselves? I've always heard of the phrase 'opposites attract', do you think that's true?
To answer your question, yes, I've chosen an outfit to wear. It's just a black suit my father bought for me, nothing too interesting. I think I'm more preoccupied with figuring out what to do with my hair. Shall I slick it back with gel like I normally do? That seems to be the style that most fits me.

I have a wizard one, if you like, that I can attach to the letter though. Personally, I'm too...well, I suppose, without being selfish am "nice" so I don't have any strong passions against someone. However, I don't really like lazy people, for example those people who either write a one word answer or simply not do anything. You seem to be neither of those things, so I'm glad I met you!
Maybe we could meet at Hogwarts near the Great Lake? (The squid might make an entrance, haha) I can bring my friend over and if you have one special one too, you also can. I would love to meet you in person, because since you became my quill pal, I must say I enjoy reading your letters and sending them too!
I'm pretty sure I make friends with friendly people, and probably have the most interesting realtionships with those who like dancing - and it really would be fun to give each other dancing tips
