My story begins
Finally. I'm here. The black lake...
I grew up hearing stories about this place; First it was my grandmother who started telling me about her adventures at Hogwarts, then my parents, although I asked them to. But the more I heard about this place, the more I wanted to see it. That wait has finally come to an end. This is the great carpet of water that graces the landscape of the castle, one that is always in motion.
I sat on the shore and my hands felt the grass and a bit of the earth that, from that point began to fight against the sand for some space. I stretched out my feet as much as I could but I was still very far from the water. I had to choose to get up off the ground, or stay there.
The low tide splashed waves no higher than a boulder. It is that the great lake has an unusual charm: if you look closely enough you can come to appreciate some solitary eddies, and waves that seem to come out of nowhere. There is life there, of many kinds. I always wondered what the world of these water creatures would be like, so different from each other, sharing a much smaller space than ours, that of the wizards who walk the earth.
My father was a wandmaker (who didn't have the same renown as other wizards like Ollivander), who was pleased to know that none of his wands had ever exploded. Their uncanny fascination with experimenting with unusual materials gave him a reputation for madmaker. But I don't think so, sometimes I support him because he's right. How boring is the equality of magic! If we all have the same things, then we don't have anything interesting to talk about. And my mother, who understood it to a point, still did not agree as much as I did. She convinced him to buy my first wand at Ollivander's, which made him a little sad at first but in the end we came to an agreement.
My mother was a professional cook and ran a five-star kitchen. She started out as the girl who prepared the salads, and after a lot of time and dedication, she became head chef. One day she finally bought the restaurant and took over running the place, but from time to time she returns to the kitchen to remind the cooks that she is still the best.
I had been stunned with narrowed eyes, thinking of my parents, almost forgotten my reason for going there. I promised my father, as part of our agreement, to come to the lake and collect some ingredients for him. It wasn't the typical potion materials of course, he could get those anywhere. But here was something that only existed in the black lake, or at least was known to exist there. There were many preparations that we had to do to save him in the search that was our mission. And before starting, long before collecting here what he had entrusted to me, I first had to overcome my fear for water. Not even knowing how to swim I was supposed to dive into the lake, it didn't took long to figur out that this step would take longer than expected. In fact, I never heard of swimming classes at Hogwarts. With this problem in mind, went to the water's edge and sat down again, this time on the sand, waiting for some interesting idea to cross my eyes.
