New Subject Discussion: Wandlore

Wandlore is a topic of interest for many, but there is not enough to facilitate an entire curriculum or 7 year syllabus. That's good, because according to the HP Wiki, the study of Wandlore is only taught from the 6th year in History of Magic, and it is not yet in the syllabus and I’m not sure if there are plans for it to be included but I wanted to throw something together with some ideas to see if anything sticks.
My first idea would simply be to include it into the curriculum with a separate subject, if that is not too technically demanding. I understand there might be limitations technically, but also in terms of staffing and making more work for them. In light of that, without it looking like I am gunning for a role, I am willing to put some time and effort into this, if there is desire for it. An alternative would be to simply include it into HoM but that steps on toes, and that isn’t my intention.
We could also explore the idea that Wandmaker is restricted until this year, and make this class a prerequisite to the ability, or forum section as a kind of Prodigal-themed thing. Though again that’s more work for staff etc.

Hello and welcome to my ramblings on a potential, additional subject being taught at Hogwarts.
I’d like to give some credit to @Cassie Jiang for opening a thread about what additional subjects we’d like to see at Hogwarts, and to @Colin McCoire for the encouragement.
Note: This is a pitch, but also a discussion. If you have ideas of your own, or identify problems with what I’m saying, feel free to post below! This is mostly to start properly talking about the subject and to see what kind of appetite there would be.

*Lore wise, this spell is taught in 5th year charms, but it is not in the syllabus on site.

Remember that for the wandmaker ability, the student themselves is not making the wand. They have received it by coming across/having the money to purchase a new wand or a family member has gifted it to them. There are also quite a few members who already have the wandmaker ability so making changes now would effect others.
Also please remember that just because the HP Wiki says something was done, does not mean that our site will follow it exactly. Not everything that is book/movie/game cannon is the same on our site. Professors get to pick what they would like to teach and what spells are in each lesson.

That's entirely fair feedback.
I have also noticed that the two spells I included, are already in the Y7 DADA curriculum. This may be a case of don't fix what isn't broken but I'd love to hear other opinions on it!

Yes, plus there may be some people who want Wandmaker ability but don't want to do the class. Wandmaker ability and a class regarding this don't need to have restrictions, as they are two different things. Like Nancy said, the students wouldn't be making their wands, they'd be obtaining them from somewhere etc... and an actual wandmaker would have made them. If Wandmaker ability changed into having restrictions, then lots of people who already have it might not want it anymore and then if they are allowed to choose a different ability (if they aren't allowed to have it bc they didn't reach a certain level) that's not fair to others. As others might want to change their abilities too and that would open up a whole can of worms where everyone would want to change their abilities.

I think that's been misunderstood then. The idea isn't to change the ability or have students become wandmakers or having people change abilities. I was just exploring the idea of narratively linking the two.
The point of the post is just to talk about exploring wandlore more, and in what manner folks would like to do that. The above was just a splurge of ideas I had, and admittedly the wandmaker prerequisite is not feasible in the current system, but again that's not the main purpose!
