Opeila had happily agreed to show Hadrian the gardens like he had asked- even after rudely taking back the drink he had offered her. The young Slytherin would walk ahead towards the backdoor, consciously avoiding looking to the head table. Oh, neither her guardians nor Lysander could like this, but as long as she didn't give them a chance to give her some kind of command...

Opeila would open the backdoor and wait for Hadrian to step outside before closing it again. Feeling a little relieved, she took a deep breath- she hadn't even noticed how stifling the hall had become. The cold air certainly helped her to clear her head as she walked next to the young man, leading the way.
"The stables are a bit further down there." She pointed into the dark, away from the manor. "Do you have horses where you live?"

Opeila didn't know Hadrian well, not at all, mainly she knew him because of Aurelia- whom she also didn't know well. Was it odd that she had just disappeared into the garden with a betrothed man? Surely, it had to be. But oddly enough she found herself caring a lot less than she should have.

Once the two reached the stables, Opeila opened the door and stepped inside, breathing in the smell of hay and horses. "They all belong to Lysander and Lord Virtanen. I sometimes come in here for some quiet but usually they don't like me or anyone in here alone."

Was he surprised that Opeila left the ballroom with him? Not quite. It was probably the only ticket out she had to avoid a reluctant dance with her betrothed. The Zuheir could almost relate if his own betrothed wasn't so alluring. But Aurelia seemed to be good on her own, finding her own side-pieces just as he did. Being in the arrangement as long as he was, he inevitably grew bored and wasn't quite ready to settle down, even if the wedding was in months' time. He could only empathise with Opeila, he was only 15 when the arrangement was set.

Opeila led him towards the stables, not far from the manor. Of course, horses were creatures he was well acquainted with, the Zuheirs having bred both magical and non-magical horses for both show and sport for the market. It was one of the more lucrative assets in their business of trade. "Of course," He said, stepping into the stables, where he was met with the familiar smell of hay and manure. "We have an established horse farm in Wyoming and Dakota - US states. For trade." He'd wandered around, a tall dapple grey stallion in the further stalls catching his eye. "This one is stunning."

Then he'd beckoned Opeila over. "A drink?" He asked. Extending his glass towards her, now away from the scrutinous watch of adults. "You know, Opeila. Just because two adults declared so, you're not stripped of your freedom of choice. That is, only unless you want to but I wouldn't if I were you." He spoke, seating on a bale of hay that was in the stable. He was talking about the betrothal, despite the ambiguity of his words.

A little unsure if she felt comfortable in her current situation, Opeila stepped away from the stable door to and closer to one of the horses. A white horse that immediately took a step toward her as well, stretching his neck over the door. Smiling, Opeila would stroke the horse's nose, while the animal tried to shove his nose against her dress. "I don't have anything for you with me today."

It had not taken long for Opeila to take a liking for Lady Virtanen's horse and vice versa, even more so because the young girl usually had something in her pockets for the horses, at least when she visited them by herself. The white horse Icarus had turned out to be especially fond of human affection and Opeila was more than happy to give it. While she never took riding classes or any of the likes, she did quite like the company of horses.

Hadrian had crossed the stable and stopped before a grey horse. "That is Lord Virtanen's horse, Aurel.", Opeila explained, "He is really proud of him. He's probably the fastest horse in this stable." And the one horse Opeila did not get too close to. She had never gotten Lord Virtanen to be truly angry with her and she was not willing to test him. "That sounds interesting. Sadly I never had much to do with horses during my childhood. I really underappreciated them back then."

Her eyebrows rose with surprise when Hadrian beckoned her over and offered her a drink after all. The young girl would take the glass from him, swirling the liquid before taking a sip. It seemed the young man had seeked distance from the adults and looked for an opportunity to speak his mind. Why she didn't know, but he immediately had her attention.

The Slytherin would lean against the bale of hay that Hadrian sat on and take another sip from the glass, pondering over what she could answer. "Am I not?", were the words that finally left her mouth. "These two adults adopted me and thereby saved my life. Or- at least that's what we all believed. They have given me a safe place and support and they are asking for something in return." Well, not quite. They were hardly asking for anything.

"Will you marry Aurelia? Do you want to?"

"I'm sure my family would have traded some steeds here," Why else would the two families with such different cultures have such strong ties if not for a shared passion? "Aurel, a nice name for a horse, almost reminds me of someone," He commented as Opeila joined him by the bale of hay. She accepted the drink he offered, lifting the rim of the glass to her lips. Then she spoke of her opinion on the matter - a rather naive one. "So which of these horses are you, Opeila?" He asked brazenly, gesturing to the general vicinity of the stable with a twirl of his finger.

"The Virtanens bought or bred these horses and gave them a safe place. But you're not a damn pony. We all have choices." He said, shaking his head with a scoff. Was this why he wanted her to show him to the stables in the first place? As peaceful as it is, occupied with such majestic animals, they were Virtanen property. Clearly, a cunning girl she was, she reversed the question back at him to ponder. The wedding was set for April, and it was certainly close. "She's hot and I don't hate her. It's one of my choices to fulfil my family's obligation - the easiest way to get them out of my hair. Even then, marriage does not strip me of my freedom. I won't allow that."
