Relost, Refound
Loren was holding tightly onto their most recent letter from Monica as they made their way down to the shore of the Great Lake.
'I'd love to meet up' the letter had said. And 'So great to hear from you!' Plus, Monica had drawn a sweet little heart at the end- each of these things gave Loren great hope that their old summer camp friend would be a blast to see again. It had been a long while since Loren and Monica had hung out- honestly since classes had started Loren had been entirely too busy taking in the new schedule and new sights, sounds, and smells of the castle to keep up with much of anyone. They had a few new friends now, but Monica was the first school friend they had made and they were excited to see her again. And it was for this reason that they had bundled up in their warm outdoor robes to go out to the Great Lake one Tuesday afternoon after classes.
"She better know how amazing she is that I'm going out on a Tuesday when Tuesdays are go-back-to-the-library-and-sit-and-read-books-after-class day." Loren said aloud, mostly to themself. Then they laughed, "If I'm going to miss books time I guess this is a good reason." They pantomimed fake scolding Monica- saying, "You'd better make this worth my while ma'am, otherwise the books will be quite cross with you."
Loren snickered, then hopped from foot to foot all the way down the path to the Great Lake- quite pleased with themself.

- Would class ever end? Monica sat in her chair, squirming to finally leave. She was overwhelmed with excitement. To have received that first owl from Loren, wanting to reconnect was just the up lift she needed to this less than ideal year. She found that her and Loren connected quite well over summer, but the reality was they were in different years AND different houses, so Monica couldn't blame them at all for the lack of connection the two shared since camp. And if Monica was really honest with herself, it might have been too much to have handled reconnecting any sooner than right now. With all the family discoveries, and the different Christmas holidays, Monica was an ocean of emotion and confusion. But now... after time of thinking, processing, and working through it all with her new sister/cousin Aurelia, and her best friend, Monica was ready for a break from it all, and just a simple time rekindling a friendship.
Finally class let out, and Monica wasted no time putting her books away, and grabbing her winter robe. Kiwi perked up out of Monica's hood, as she glided through the halls, as if the small rat knew who they were going to go see. Exiting the castle, Monica took a deep breath of that fresh winter air. So clean, with a slight chill to the lung. There was hardly a cloud in the sky, and yet a light snowfall rained down over the courtyard.
Traversing down the path, Monica made a beeline for the Great lake, the place that her and Loren agreed to meeting at. Rounding the corner, Monica could already see Loren there. "Loren!" The Slytherin shouted out, rushing towards the first year, nearly tackling them to the ground as Monica went in for a hug, "It's so good to see you!" It was like seeing an old friend, a very good friend! Since day one of meeting Loren, Monica felt a connection, and knew that she wanted to get to know this person more, like an unspoken understanding for each other. Loren was the first friend Monica felt she had, and getting to see them again, after all this time, was just the lift to her life Monica needed.
Pulling out a large blanket from her backpack, Monica laid it down on the snowy ground for the two to sit on, the sun was starting its decent, letting way for the moon to take over the sky. The mix of orange, yellows and purples illuminated the lake's icy surface as the sun drifted further down from the sky.
"Thanks for reaching out! I was actually going to send you an owl myself... Just, life got a bit busy." She chuckled, lifting up her robe to show a shining prefect's badge.
