Hades had been talking to his adoptive parents about his desire to have a pet. He didn't want to have before because he needed to think and know if that was what he really needed. Through the students he had learned that having a pet was a huge responsibility and was not sure if he could be responsible when caring for an animal. They were actually several factors. The other doubt that assailed him was his ability to love another living being. From what happened in the last year, Hades' self-esteem and empathy had dropped to such an extent that he was barely able to feel it. But he had been exchanging letters with his adoptive mother, wanting to seek advice on the situation.

With a little help from his mother, he had made the decision to try to adopt a pet. After having been deliberating for a whole month, he had taken a decision during the Christmas holidays, being that a significant date. He convinced her to only accompany him to the entrance to Diagon Alley, as he would be distracted for some time. He went walking with his small bag, where he kept some galleons for the new pet and also to buy some candy in Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. He walked absently until he reached the shop called Magical Menagerie — which had been told to go there. Once he entered, he noticed a whiff of a mixture of smells of excrement, feathers and animal food.

Hades had to cover his hand on his nose as it was the first impression. A smelly impression.

After a few minutes, he got used to the smell and could walk through the shop, with a solemn and calm expression. He was enjoying seeing the lot of animals that were there. He had to resist the temptation to look into all the eyes of those poor animals, who seemed to beg to adopt them. It was very hard... To have to see those eyes and resist temptation. Because if Hades could, he would have adopted them all. Unfortunately, he could only take one. He remained thinking, a little worried because he had not noticed previously that the animals were alone. The number of times he had passed through here, and he had never thought about how those poor animals felt.

That thought broke his heart. The feeling was definitely horrible.

He watched, caressing the animals. Those who seemed to pose no danger to Hades. Until he found a gray cat, with a very soft fur and large appearance. His eyes were so beautiful and he was watching him... After the eyes crossed, the cat came up, purring. His head caressed the guy’s hand, and he was enjoying it until he wanted to look at other animals, but the cat jumped on his shoulder, having taken some trust with him. It was difficult to explain but it seemed that both had found what they were looking for. He grabbed it with both arms and went to where the cashier was, seeing an old lady standing behind “I see you’ve picked this cute cat.” the woman commented.

He placed the cat and nodded “The cat doesn’t have a name, you wish you could put it?” the woman asked. Hades spent a few minutes thinking, biting his lip. He finally found a nice name “I’d like to call him Lando.” he said, grinning broadly. The woman nodded and did her work until it was time to pay, Hades took out his wallet and poured out all the coins. The woman began to count some coins “With this, it’s enough dear. And you can take a can of food.” She said, gesturing to disappear and then coming back with a can “He’ll be a little hungry, so he’ll be glad he could eat something.” she explained, he nodded and picked his new cat, ready to leave.
