Watch Me Try!
some time in november
I had heard much about dueling. Heck, half the kids in slytherin were aspiring duelists. I knew many kids challenged each other to duels for fun--or for revenge. So why couldn't I prepare for whichever option would reach me first?
I pulled on some comfortable clothes for the practice session. In one hand I help my wand, in another I had a book on dueling and a cloth doll. I wasn't quite sure how it worked, all I knew was that you launched spells at each other until, I presumed, that someone went unconscious. Or forfeited. I only knew a few spells but was prepared to practice what I already knew. You didn't need armor to go to war. Hm, maybe you did. Bad comparison. I found a spot to prop the doll up and walked a few paces away from it. Setting the book on the ground, I ran through my small arsenal of spells. I had one spell I had learned pretty early in the year, and thought would be easy to try. "Tarantellegra!" I did the correct wand movement and waited to see what the result would be. Instead, nothing happened and the spell seemed to be unsuccessful. I checked the dueling book until I found the page labeled Tarantellegra. I had done the wrong wand movement. I tried again. "Tarantellegra!" I was sure I had the wand movement correct, but yet again nothing happened. I looked at the book again. I had pronounced it wrong. I sighed in exasperation. One last try. "Tarantellegra!" The spell seemed to be successful but the doll didn't do anything. "Stupid wand." I hissed through my teeth, kicking the dirt. Time to move on. I had another spell in mind. "Incendio!" I cried, making sure to do the correct wand movement. This time, it was a success, and the cloth doll caught on fire. Luckily for me, I knew the spell to put the fire out. "extinguo," I said calmly, and the fire was put out. A pretty good practice, all and all.
