Meandering Around
Loren Beck, a perpetually absentminded first year Hufflepuff student, found themselves walking along the grounds early one weekday evening. They hardly knew where they were walking, just that today they were tired and classes were long and they needed some fresh air and movement to pull their mind back into the moment. The sunlight was waning, but still bright enough to give the fields, forest, and lake a weak lavender tint. Loren closed their eyes for a moment, taking in the sound of the wind in the trees and the feeling of it passing through their hair, their fingers, their uniform. The sound of students in the distance was carried on the wind along with the smell of evening food.
This serene moment was stopped in its tracks by a flash of restlessness and a sudden uncontrollable urge to move; and Loren thought to themself, 'If I have to keep sitting in classroom for hours at a time I'm going to just burst I swear it on Merlin's great knobbly toe warts.'
They snorted to themself and then, fueled by cold and pent up energy, continued walking- smiling as they imagined exactly what socks Merlin would've had to buy to cover up his great knobbly toe warts and how comical it would be to buy shoes to fit so particularly over the peculiar shapes.

Feel free to jump in! I'm looking for some light interaction- say hi, strike up a conversation, start some improvised interaction, etc : )

Meandering Around
After a few minutes of wandering aimlessly and travelling from whim to whim, Loren arrived at a small copse of evergreen shrubs standing at attention at the base of a rather large shade tree. The ground around the base of the tree and within the protection of the shrubs was worn, clearly students had used it previously to share secrets or whittle away the day. In the summer, this place would certainly be lovely to sit in as the shade tree would provide a much needed break from the bright sun. As for now, the tree was not much use but its surrounding shrubs were well suited to provide protection from the cold mountain wind.
Loren sat, placing themself in such a position that they could watch the other students who were outside without being seen easily. Observing people has always been fun and, Loren felt, significantly easier than trying to strike up a conversation. Loren made note of the host of characters that they saw, wondering what was going on in each of their heads, what school work they were putting off, who their friends and best friends were, what they did and did not like about their dorm room, what pet peeves really sent them into a rage. The amount of information that could possibly exist about even a single person, let alone a school full of them, made Loren feel actually a little ill.
Disengaging their brain from that entirely overwhelming concept, Loren stood and brushed the dust and debris off of their cloak. Then, they made their way quietly back inside where it was easier to forget just how many students, staff, and other faculty lived within the walls of Hogwarts. Going for a walk had been helpful; but maybe next time it wouldn't go on for quite so long.
