(Dis) Connected Solo Closed

Every year Samantha had less contact with her parents, and the young girl was partially to blame for it. At first, she had written extensively about her her days at the magical school. Not a single detail went unwritten. Her parents knew of everything she learned in class, every new friend she made, and every funny thing she had noticed that day. During and a little before her second year, the letters contained fewer details. Especially after the spider attack in the Ravenclaw common room, she became more closed off from her parents. She didn't want to accidentally slip up and tell her parents about the huge secret she was keeping from them. It seemed like she kept getting more secrets to keep and more reasons to lie.

During her third year, she just wrote about simple things like her boyfriend, her prefect duties, and dueling training. The young girl had noticed she got fewer replies from her parents as the year progressed. Most of the letters Amenadiel delivered were written by her sister. The older girl asked dozen of questions about Samantha's life, wanting to know every detail. The high interest of her sister made Samantha feel less sad that her parents barely wrote her. She was super grateful every time she received a letter from her sister even though she got teased a lot in them. At least Anne took the time to write her at least once a week, unlike her parents. Maybe they were busy...

During the last Christmas break, Samantha noticed that her parents were a bit more stressed than usual. The young girl had been quick to blame the Christmas celebrations and continued her day unbothered. Later during the break, she learned that her dad had to work many late nights and her mom wasn't too happy with that. It wasn't the first time Samantha's dad had to work longer. It was something he had to do a lot when they were still financially struggling a few years ago. Luckily, things improved when they moved to London. So when her mother got mad when her dad had to work late on the day before Christmas, Samantha understood her mom's annoyance. They were supposed to spend time together as a family! Still, the brunette could never stay mad at her father, who she adored and looked up to a lot.

In the few letters her mom wrote, she would talk about the 'fun stuff' she did with Anne. Make-up, shopping, or watching romantic movies. Samantha was glad she didn't have to do those things, she didn't like any of it. Biking with her dad was way more fun. Even playing chess against her little niece or swimming was more fun. The brunette couldn't even imagine how boring things must be for her dad. The only person he shared interests with was the kid that went to Hogwarts. Her mom and sister had the same hobbies, which were far from her dad's. Her father's letters were pretty short, mostly questions about things she had written to him. Sometimes he would talk about himself, about the many nights he had to work, or that he missed Samantha a lot.

Letter clutched in one hand and a treat for her owl in the other, the prefect made her way up the stairs. The latest letter from her sister, which had arrived that morning, had her worried. In it, Anne talked about some fights their parents were having, but also told her sister not to worry. It was grow-up stuff and everything was going to be fine. At least, that's what her sister said. After her last class, she had immediately written a reply, questioning her sister about the fights. As she reached the top of the stairs, she called for her owl. The trusted weight of the little owl appeared on her hand and she gifted the brown creature his food. Once she had given Amenadiel the letter, she watched him fly off, until he was just a little dot in the distance.

Hopefully, she would get a fast reply... Hopefully, everything was fine...
