-----A lifeless Caoimhe huffed while walking into class before planting her body in the seat assigned to her that would also be near a fellow Slytherin. The same routine would follow for this morning for History of Magic as it would for the remaining duration of the year. This morning, however, the History of Magic lecture dragged on slowly, Professor Browne's ramblings compiling into thoughtless words that would quite literally be in one ear and out the other.

Caoimhe's attention span could not focus not a single word spoken by the professor. Her conscience feeling as though it were running a marathon at a mile-in-a-minute pace. With her random assortment of thoughts that had little to nothing to do with the History of Magic, Caoimhe's eyes tended to explore the space of the room. Every few moments, her hazel-colored would glance would drift from the professor to reunite with the tall grandfather clock that stood across the room with other junk beside it. Her dimly shut eyelids grew glossy disabling her from deciphering the numbers and the clock's hands.

She jerked awake and tried to play it off naturally while scanning the room. Her gaze met the side profile of the fellow Slytherin. She had been too afraid to speak to him while getting settled into the school, but seeing as this was her assigned seat and that they'd see each other in the common room, Caoimhe felt that perhaps today she would step out of her comfort level and introduce herself. Sort of, anyways. Due to there being three empty chairs in between the two of them and also to not get the professor's attention by speaking out-loud, Caoimhe grabbed a blank piece of paper in her fingertips then ripped it with her between her index fingers and thumbs quietly.

Once the paper was completely separated from the parchment, Caoimhe's head bowed and brow furrowed while quietly scribbling. Her note, despite it being crumbled and hard to read, would inquire: 'Hey I'm Caoimhe, what's your name? Are you also a first year?'

She would tap him carefully and slide the note over, hoping to start a conversation.

Larino sat down in a History of Magic lesson, not really sure what to expect. He'd always had an interest in History, but had a feeling that this would be rather boring, since he was still so new to the concept of magic. Sure, he'd known about it ever since his sister got accepted a few years prior, but hadn't seen anything firsthand until he started Hogwarts, not really. The previous lessons had been boring, yes, but the Slytherin never knew when a topic would crop up that would grab his interest. But that would never come. Probably.

Boredom aside, Larino was at least glad that there were three empty seats between him and a Slytherin girl, since he didn't necessarily want people on either side of him. It overwhelmed him, and he really needed to start his new school with good impressions, something he had never quite managed back home. That might have been because he could barely speak a word of the English language when he first moved, but he wasn't relying on that to be the only reason.

Of course, his peace was disturbed by the girl sat a little away from him ripping the corner of her parchment and writing something on it. He poked his head up at the noise, but was doubtful anyone else could hear it. She then proceeded to tap him and slid the note over, so he could read it: 'Hey I'm Caoimhe, what's your name? Are you also a first year?'

The boy would then tear out a page from his notebook, write down his reply: 'Hey Caoimhe, I'm Larino Arveli. We're in class, so we're all first years in here. ☺' He silently slid it over, thankful she wasn't going to get him to speak. They'd only been in Hogwarts a week, he wasn't about to get into trouble for talking in class, or make a fool of himself by not being able to talk. Writing was much easier, even if his handwriting did look not look like that of an eleven year old. You could probably tell that his first writing system was not using the letters of the Latin alphabet.

Larino was bored in History of Magic, as per usual. His peace was disturbed by a fellow Slytherin tapping him and sliding a note over, introducing herself. He quietly ripped a page from his notebook out, and wrote his reply, sliding it over. He was thankful she wasn't going to make him speak, maybe this way he'd get a good impression in.

-----Halfway expecting to be ignored or reprimanded for not paying attention by other student, Caoimhe would observe the student also rip out a page to create a note in reply. Her face grew hot as she spied his hand as he scrawled a reply, but adverted her gaze often to Professor Browne to avoid appearing suspicious. Interest invaded her mind debating what his note would state, what its tone would be, what would she write back?

Detecting his hand movements, Caoimhe noticed him set the paper down and slide it in Caoimhe's direction. The young Slytherin would remain hesitant to examine its contents her hand resting over the paper, waiting for Professer Browne to turn his back to the students during his lecture, and she'd flip the note over and silently read his message.

Larino Arveli would be the student's name; a small smile formed on her lips looking at the cute smiley face that he drew. Caoimhe scanned the room examining its students upon the realization that all the student attending this class were first years. Some students appeared much older and mature looking, Caoimhe did not realize they'd all be about 11-12 years old.
'No way, there's no way..' Caoimhe mused before looking down at his note, wasting no time to start scribbling her response on the same sheet:
"There's some old looking students in here -- Nice to meet you, Larino! What is your favorite class?"

Caoimhe avoided tapping him this time but simply slid his notebook page back into the direction of his vicinity before sliding her hand away, using it to prop her head on it.

Larino waited patiently as Caoimhe wrote her reply, and slid the ripped piece of paper back to him. He didn't want the professor to see that they were passing notes, so pretended to pay attention until eventually giving up and sliding the note across the desk so he could read it. When he discreetly looked, he saw that it read: 'There's some old looking students in here - Nice to meet you, Larino! What is your favorite class?'

He waited a few more minutes before writing his reply, being careful to not write down something he'd regret. If they were actually speaking, he'd end up saying something dorky and ruining his first impression. That's what usually happened. But this was much preferred. He had time to think about what he was going to 'say' next.

After some careful consideration, he wrote: 'Hmm... I think I'd have to say Herbology, but Flying is also pretty cool - HOM is so slow boring though! What's yours?' Of course, Larino changed his mind as to what he was going to say, but hoped it wouldn't make any difference. Besides, he guessed it was courtesy to ask her the same question, so he did.

Larino silently slid the note back across the desk to her, pretending to pay attention, and hoping they wouldn't get caught. He didn't have a problem with pulling pranks and whatnot, but to get into trouble in one of the first weeks of Hogwarts, his mother certainly wouldn't be proud of him.

Larino waited for Caoimhe to give her reply, the waited a few minutes to pull it across the desk so he could read it. He then proceeded to think about his reply for a few more minutes, and wrote down his reply after some careful consideration. He changed his mind about one word, but still slid the note back across the desk, pretending to pay attention.

It was quite entertaining to exchange notes with Larino, and the tedious lecture suddenly became something worth staying awake for. Caoimhe attempted to appear attentive while waiting for the message to be returned to her, despite her anxiety of being discovered.

Caoimhe waited several minutes before sliding her palm over the paper and bringing it back towards her, and even longer before flipping it over to read it. Caoimhe would silently beg that she wouldn't be called upon when the professor became passionate during his presentation and asked numerous students to complete the gaps in his speech. The girl with wavy hair had no idea what the professor was talking about or what he would ask her if she were chosen to answer a question. She would keep her hand and head low, attempting to camouflage with the desk without attracting notice or suspicion.

Caoimhe didn't regret anything she said or wrote on the parchment, but the same cannot be said for Larino, who stated that he enjoyed Herbology and Flying, but found History boring. Caoimhe absolutely agreed of course, but opposed putting anything in writing as it might have been utilized against her in the future. Caoimhe twirled her quill between her index finger and thumb as she awaited the optimal moment to scribble a response. When it arrived, she quickly wrote, "I'm enjoying Charms and DADA the most so far. What do you think of dueling?" whether she just enjoyed it because it was easy for her, or she truly liked it, was unknown to her at the moment.

Caoimhe was only interested in learning basic casting to assist her in her daily life and for self-defense. Changing one item into another was certainly proved as useful when necessary, but it wouldn't help her defeat her brothers in a match or when they picked on her. It thrilled her to possess such power in such a small cherry-wooded vessel, and it delighted her even more to deliver her brothers an arsenal of charms taught from class. Then, she would be the respectable opponent they deserved.

Caoimhe pretended to take notes while sliding the letter back to Larino while turning the page in her journal, jotting random words the teacher spoke.
