Third Time's The Charm
THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM
─────── ∘°❉°∘ ───────
────── date. 30 aug. 22 ─ outfit ─ solo ──── "pick up the pace, elira. ollivanders is just around the corner." father said stiffly, taking long strides ahead of me with my mother by his side.
"yes sir." i muttered, and hurried after them, rolling my eyes. I had all my newly-bought books in an arctic monkeys tote bag that mother had cast an extension charm on. father disapproved of my bag of choice, since it was in fact, a muggle band.
"over here, elira." said mother, father leading us towards a tall, dark shop with 'OLLIVANDERS' written across the headboard in gold letters. "go in. we'll wait outside." they said, and opened the door for me, letting me through.
i ignored their words, and just walked in, closing the door beside me as the bell jingled.
"miss lamacraft. i wondered when i'd be seeing YOU here." said an old, raspy voice, coming from behind the many dark shelves.
"mr olivander, sir." i said politely, as he stepped down from his ladder.
"let's get you started with.. hmm, lets see." he rummaged through the shelves, before pulling out a long, black box, before returning to the counter. "black cherry, 10 1/3 inches with a unicorn tail core. slightly Springy."
He handed over the wand to me, and i took grasp of it. my parents didn't really inform me of how this all worked... "give it a wave, come on." mr ollivander said, breaking the silence.
I gave a small nod, then waved it at the lamp, causing it to explode and shatter, then i gave an awkward grimace, placing it gently back on the counter.
"oh merlin, definitely not." he said hurriedly, casting a quick spell at the lamp, causing it to mend itself in seconds.
He returned to the shelves, then reached for another box, bringing it back to the counter once more.
"basswood, 11 1/4 inches with dragon heartstring. quite soft and supple." he said, handing the wand to me. the moment i took it, he snatched it back. "oh no no no." mr ollivander said hurriedly, placing the dark brown wand into its box.
the old man returned once more into the labyrinth of shelves, stopping near the back. he looked up, then pulled his ladder over, climbing to the very top, before pulling out a wand box.
"maybe... maybe this one." he said softly, and i tensed. for some reason, i felt like that this wand, would be the one. third time's the charm, as the saying goes.
once mr ollivander came back to the counter, he gently placed the box on the tabletop. "mayhaw wood...." he whispered, sliding it open. "12 1/2 inches....."
he handed the gleaming, polished black wand to me. "with a phoenix feather core.. rather bendy."
i took hold of the wand once more, closing my eyes. i felt a surge of power run through me, and my eyes opened with a malicious glint, and a smile, disguising a smirk. the end of the wand glowed an emerald green, with faint whisps of silver.
"thats the one." mr ollivander said with a smile. "a wand keen for discoveries and experiences: it desires an owner in its own image: curious, dynamic and adventorous."
i placed it back on the counter in its dark green velvet-lined black box, before the old wizard boxed it up.
"that will be 7 galleons, miss lamacraft."
"here you go." i said, sliding 7 heavy, gold coins across the counter. "thanks for the wand."
i picked up the box and headed out of the door with a wave to the wizard. i suppose third time's the charm is actually true.
