She was trying- she really was.
Before storming out to the grounds, Lea had stared at a blank page willing the words to write themselves. From not believing in magic to excelling to struggling, the Hufflepuff did not like her current progression. She'd figure it out, she was sure of that, but for now it came so... difficultly. Charms still made sense to her, but managing the willpower or learning the history confused the third year. Not to mention caring for magical creatures and plants- it was a lot to take in at once. The girl was paralyzed with indecision.
So she left. Her notes could be completed later and she even brought a small notepad on her journey out of the confining castle should she find motivation outside. But for now, Lea would find an open spot to sit down and look out on the campus. She was bundled up, a Hufflepuff scarf covering her neck and hands tucked into pockets. The girl also wore a heavy beige coat over her uniform, tucking the edges closer to her. Her hands would escape from their cozy prison to quickly let out her braid, letting the wind tussle the long brown hair. The rain had stopped for the time being but it was still quite chilly, a shiver raking through the girl as bronze eyes gazed out into nothingness. And with that, she'd pull out the small notepad, noting spells that she couldn't understand so far. "Freezing Spell... Water Repelling Charm... Can't even figure out a Bandaging Charm-" She sighed with a shake of her head. Her quill would continue to scribble on the page, but the girl had fallen silent after that. If someone were to be near her, Lea would not immediately notice as she lost herself in thought trying to solve how best to teach herself these spells.
Abruptly a few moments later, "At least I got the first year stuff-" A soft bitter laugh echoed, setting the quill on the ground to grab her wand with a quick spin. She wouldn't cast anything yet, but it seemed like the Hufflepuff was debating it.
OOC: Let me know if any changes should be made!

The chill of the air awakened her. It was the perfect energising mechanism for Ann, whenever she needed the motivation to complete homework or to study she would allow the motivation to materialise itself after a walk through the grounds of Hogwarts. The Christmas snow had departed and left a bitter cold in the air which made her regret the lack of hat or scarf on her person, her cheeks burning and her fingertips tingling.
Stood slightly off from the heavily trodden path was a girl. Her hair flew like bunting in the breeze, each strand was coiled suggesting that it had recently been released from a style such as a braid. Ann would have thought her to be a statue if it wasn’t for this movement as the girl remained unusually still while she was walking towards her. Suddenly she could hear scratching, like the sound of a pen on paper, it’s origins were revealed when she saw the quill - it’s feathers being parted by the breeze as it rushed to produce writings. As the moved closer she heard the Hufflepuff speaking, several words, Ann thought they were spells.
“Excuse me, are you alright?” This reaction seemed involuntary, she didn’t think it was cold enough to cause any sort of hypothermic state but she could be mistaken and felt obliged to inquire into the girl’s state as the quill had now retired and the mysterious girl’s wand was being drawn. She looked older than Ann, but only by a few years - her height being an example of this, standing more than a few inches taller than her. The cloak she wore was black and yellow, Ann didn’t have any experience with those of this house, this made her curious for their interaction.
