The Ideal Seat Pv Locked

The study room wasn't only a place of academic validation and preparation, it was also a place of intellectual war. Because everyone knew how well you studied depended on the seat you got. If you sat too close to the door you were bound to look away from your materials and become easily distracted by who every was entering and exiting. And everyone knew if you sat too far in the back of the room you were bound to either overhear conversations that were best left unheard or you'd be wound up in conversations like those yourself.

In an attempt to appease the wishes of her great aunt, Adlai had been frequenting the study room for the past week. She didn't to bring her grades up but she couldn't study in her form because she'd become distracted by her pet snake, Dafina. And frankly she couldn't study any place else because she was bound to speak when spoken too or speak when not spoken too.

So one by one Adlai had been observing and taking note of the best seats in the study rooms, ones that weren't too far up front or too far back and were just secluded enough from other people. She was luck yesterday and was able to snag one of the good seats. However, today only one of the ideal seats were still open and people were beginning to file into the room from behind her.

Howard has spent almost six full years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and in this time the boy had explored almost every part of the ancient dwelling. Few places had been off limits to him during his time at the institution. Of course the other houses common rooms were inaccessible along with the Headmaster's office and the staffs private rooms, but for the most part Howard knew every nook and cranny of the place. However, there was a room he had almost no acquaintance with. The study room...

Yes, Mr. White was many things, but studious was not one of them. Well, not until the end of his fifth year that is. The boy, now a young man, had grown quite fond of a few subject taught at Hogwarts and if he were to pursue them after he graduated, he ought to raise his marks. Passing his OWLs was one thing, but getting through the NEWTs would be the biggest academic challenge of his life so far. So, the damphir had started a routine of studying regularly. The library was often too busy and he always became distracted by a friend, team mate or random conversation. This too was possible in the Study Room, but he found that if he could find one of the right seats, he could study for hours uninterrupted. That, however, was never a guarantee.

Howard was not the only one that prized these precious seats and he often found that it was the same person again and again that he was battling for seat dominance. He had seen her before in their Common room, but her named escaped him. Adeline? Adrian? It was something like that, yet it little mattered as this rivalry began to heat up. Today as Howard entered the room he would see that there was only one of the seats he liked left and he wasted no time in making a move for it. However...he was not the only one. He could spot that colorful headscarf a mile away. She was back! And she was going for the seat as well!

"Damn." Howard muttered under his breath. Perhaps the two had arrived at the seat at the same time. The unspoken rivalry would continue, unless...maybe it was time for a chat.

Doing her best to make a subtle and direct cut towards the seat, Adlai found herself in an awkwardly placed position when she did reach it. Looking to her side she saw a boy, and not just any boy, it was her house prefect. Which one it was, she wasn't sure about but she knew he was an upperclassman. "Pardon?" She asked unsure if he had said something.

Internally she began to think about how this looked on the surface, about what possible on lookers may think when they looked their way. Here stood a fourth year Hufflepuff and an upperclassman Hufflepuff prefect, some may think that the prefect was helping one of their underclassman find a decent seat and simply doing their civil duty to guide and help those around them while others might possibly think that the underclassman was sucking up by offering a seat to their prefect.

Something most people didn't know about Adlai was that she had quite the ego. She may be a drifter when it came down to her social circles but she cared about her reputation within the school, thus she simply wasn't able to stand the thought of people possibly thinking she was a suck up.

Placing her hand on the chair of the desk they both stood at Adlai spoke in a soft voice, trying her best not to disturb the other students or attract attention to the pair, "Did you say something?" She asked with a strained smile.

Howard’s crimson eyes leveled with the girls as they arrive near the seat at the same time. “Pardon?” Her response to his muttered swear. A little devil on his shoulder urged him to use his intimidating presence and the fact that he was a prefect to bully her out of taking the seat. Who was she anyways? Howard had seen her around school and they shared a house, but he didn’t even know her name. However, just as his ill tempered side reared its ugly head, the light hearted angel on his other shoulder would prevail.

The last thing he wanted was to reinvigorate the reputation he had once had. To onlookers they may appear to be a helpful prefect or a suck up underclassmen, but Howard realized the opportunity to perhaps meet a like mind. As the girls hand found the back of the seat, so too would his own as his sense of competition rose to meet hers. This lass surely was not the only one with an ego and he couldn’t resist the urge to get to know her a little better.

“I did.” Howard replied with a forced smile of his own. “Was just expressing my condolences that your favorite seat seems to already be occupied.” Finally this rivalry would be voiced once and for all. His expression was a bit devilish as he challenged her. Would she rise to meet him?

Glancing down at the wood where her hand rested Adlai watched as the Prefects hand also found its place there. Doing her best to keep whatever false composure she had conjured up she continued to smile. He obviously can't take a hint. - she thought before her previous question was finally answered by the current thorn in her side.

"I did." The boy began, "Was just expressing my condolences that your favorite seat seems to already be occupied.” Standing for a moment, Adlai seemed to be buffering as the words of the desk thief sunk into the crevices of the wrinkles of extremely wrinkly brain. "Favorite seat?"

"This is anything but my favorite seat, in all honesty it's probably one of the worst seats in the room at the moment. It can become terribly chilly here and I'm certain the student body wouldn't wanting you to catch a cold. After all you do some much for them as a prefect, don't you?"

Adlai wasn't sure whether or not her plan of dissuasion was working or not but she wasn't going to not try. From time to time she was alright with giving up a battle of wits but today she was desperate and giving up was definitely not an option in any sense of the word!
