The wand chose its' wizard
After collecting most of the school supplies needed, Alyn looked down at the letter he had received "Well, are we missing anything, Alyn?" his father asked him, looking down at the list of items with him, he had already gathered all the clothes and books necessary, he scanned his eyes over the supplies list.
"A WAND!" he shouted to his father, who pulled himself backward and started rubbing his ear "Sorry father." he said sincerely, folding the letter and stuffing it back into his pocket, they searched around Diagon Alley and came across a shop that looked narrow and shabby, he looked up at the sign which read Olivanders: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 BC.
"Ahh, Olivanders, I remember when I came here as a boy, picked myself up a fine wand made of Chestnut and Dragon's Heartstring." his father said, grabbing out his own wand; Alyn had seen it a million times before, but despite looking so simple, it amazed him each time "Well then, head on inside, there is no finer place than Olivanders to receive a wand of your own."
"You are not coming, father?" Alyn asked him, looking nervous as he was nudged towards the door, he peeked inside and there was no one at the counter, and it looked very dusty from what he could gather.
"Oh no, getting your own wand is very personal - and I must find your mother, no doubt she is still in Weasley's, and you know her love of tricks." he said, chuckling, and then passed some coins to Alyn to purchase the wand "Go on now."
His father watched on as he entered the shop, it was quiet, all he could hear was the ticking of a clock on the wall and the muffled sounds of people outside, he walked up to the counter and peered at the row of wands "Hello?!" he called out, and tapped his hand on the wooden counter, yelling out again "Is anyone here?!"
A step ladder slide from around the corner into one of the isles, and an old man slowly made his way down and stepped towards the counter "Calm child, you must have patience." he peered down at Alyn "What is your name?"
"Sorry sir, my name is Alyn Reed." he answered and received a faint smile from the old man, who pulled out a long tape measure from underneath the counter and walking towards the young boy.
"Ah, Mr. Reed, I remember the day your mother and father both came in to select their wands." the old man said "Now, what is your wand arm?" Alyn looked at him confused for a moment "The hand you write with, Mr. Reed." and with that, Alyn lifted up his right arm.
"You know my parents?" Alyn asked, looking at him curiously as he measured him from shoulder to finger, then wrist to elbow, knee to floor, and round his head "Is this neccessary for a wand, Sir?"
"Benjamin Reed and Jeyne Armstrong, though I suppose it is Jeyne Reed now, I remember all who come into my shop, Mr. Reed, just as I will remember you." he said, tapping his head though ignoring Alyn's last question "Now let us choose your wand, yes?" he grabbed out a dusted old box from the shelves, walking back to the counter and opening it up "This here is a 25.7cm wand, made with Chestnut wood and a Phoenix feather, give it a go." he said, handing Alyn the wand.
Alyn gave the wand a flick and a pile of the boxes on the shelves exploded onto the ground, causing him to jump and drop the wand back onto the counter "Oh that will not do at all." the old man said, he went back to the shelves and picked out another box "Let us try this one, the wand is a 26.9cm pear wood and rougarou hair."
"I don't want to ruin your shop, sir." Alyn said, though only got a stern look from the man in response, the wand felt like it belonged in his hand as he grabbed it, and when he gave it the same flick, light shined from its' tip, and Alyn could help smile happily.
"The wand chooses its' wizard, Mr. Reed, and now it has chosen you." he said "This one is nice and bendy, and perfect for fighting spells and was most intended for an accomplished duelist." he then followed sharply "See that you take great care of it!."
"I will, sir." he said "I promise." he put the wand back into the box and took hold of it, blowing off the dust that still lingered, and then handed the man the coin necessary to buy the wand and left the shop to look for his parents and tell them about his new wand.
