The train ride to Hogwarts
Martha looked around the platform where everyone was saying goodbye to their family, she looked back at the wall that she had run through and then boarded the train. She searched for an empty compartment and finally found one opening the door and sitting down. She took a sketchbook out of her bag and started to lightly sketch what the castle might look like, she had read Hogwarts a mystery two time so she already knew a lot of facts about the castle. She then looked out the window, she couldn’t believe that she was a witch! Just a month ago she had thought they weren’t real and now she was on the Hogwarts express.

Grey clouds gathered over King’s Cross central, and as its cold winds swept beneath the tall arched ceilings that kept the coaches and their passengers dry from the draughty rains that plagued these isles, Laurence could hear his midnight black loafers tapping against the concrete platform below.
He’d been shoving his trolley for what seemed like an eternity - keeping a well-measured distance from his parents, who were momentarily too busy arguing over trivialities to help Laurence push his cart onwards.
Finally, they stopped walking. Laurence halted too, and leaned against his cart, which he had so nimbly parked against a pillar. He panted, softly, and patiently waited for his parents to resolve their dispute.
“Here it is.” the boy mused. He’d looked forward to riding the Hogwarts Express, though there was something surreal about it all; in the next few days, he’d enroll at the only wizarding school in Britain, and every last detail of what he’d do, study or try here would mark the rest of his adult life.
Hogwarts would be a stepping stone of colossal proportions, all he had to do now was seize it.
After embracing his mother one last time, and greeting his father with a stiff handshake, the boy took a hold of his trolley and dashed into the pillar that divided platform 9 from 10. When he opened his eyes, they were met with a bright red locomotive, the Hogwarts Express. Eager to get on, Laurence quickly retrieved his satchels and leather duffel bag from the trolley, stepped up to the coach’s platform.
Deeply bothered by the sheer weight of his luggage, he entered the first cabin he could, and stood face-to-face with a girl no younger nor older than himself, with dark black locks and clear blue eyes.
“Pardon,” the boy began, in his thick Ulster accent. “ ‘s This seat free?” he pointed to the bench opposite her with his right-hand finger, as he tried not to squirm under the sheer weight of his luggage.

The train ride to Hogwarts
Martha turns toward the voice seeing a boy her age with blond hair and blue eyes.
“Oh no it’s not,” she said and smiled happy that someone was talking to her.
“I’m Martha, who are you?” She asked trying to calm down as she wasn’t used to talking to people she didn’t know. What if I mess I mess it up? What if? She stopped her train of thought breathing deeply and twirling the bracelet that was on her right hand to calm herself.

“It’s not? Whose seat have I just nicked?” The only bags he could see about were the girl’s, and it didn’t occur to Laurence that there could have been another person in this cabin since the start of the trip. Buchanan furrowed his brow, and stared at Martha with some confusion. Had she simply misunderstood him? Her smile and body language seemed open, and the weight of Laurence’s bags was startiny to grow ever heavier. After a split second of doubt, he decided that he’d just put his luggage here for a bit; in case she wanted to boot him out of her cabin still, she could do that once the boy’s back had stopped aching.
As he threw his duffel in the overhead container, Laurence could hear the girl asking for his name.
“Martha’s a pretty name.” he grunted, tired from handling his luggage. He turned himself around to face her and calmly reached out his hand, offering her a warm smile as he did so.
“My name’s Laurence Buchanan, but you’re free to call me Laurie if you like.”
Now that he was face-to-face with the girl, he noticed her heavy breathing and intense fidgeting, which instilled Laurence with a profound sense of discomfort. Surely he hadn’t done anything wrong? Was he drenched in sweat from carrying his heavy luggage? Was his fly down? Had a slither of parsley from his lunchtime mozzarella sandwich gotten stuck between his teeth?
The boy’s smile slowly dissipated, and before he could doubt his own appearance any further, he asked: “Good Lord, you’re looking a tad pale. Are you alright?”

“Oh, um Yeah, I just don’t talk to new people much but I’m fine.” She told him shaking his hand, and realized that she had misunderstood him before. “Oh! No one’s, I wasn’t expecting anyone to sit with me.” She answered awkwardly wondering what to say and wondering how she could have been so stupid.
