⠀⠀There was something with age, mainly really with growing up that really caused wear on someone like him. Through the years of his schooling, he's grown to accept that things are going to change and will keep changing. At least, accepting it was the plan. Reid spent time balancing the act of being at school and the theatrics his family. But despite adjusting to both sides, many things just kept changing. The Hufflepuff however remained himself to some degree, just a little wiser and a little older. He was a decent person, no one too extraordinary, but some of the steadiest of the bunch. Reid had given up his position on the Quidditch team and simply watched the games from now on.
⠀⠀Whether he was going to make his return remained to be seen, that victory game against Durmstrang really set the tone. There wasn't a chance that he'd see that glory again. Yet every now and then, he could find someone to at least play into the feeling of the sport. Across from the Hufflepuff was Elias Weare, a Ravenclaw whom he befriended slightly enough to ask him to a game. Surely, studying all day was a dull activity. ' Ready? ' At his side was his old Beater bat, a crudely drawn MJOLNIR signifying the naivety of his youth from a few summers ago. In the other hand was a ball of significant size. It wasn't a bludger, but it could be enough for the Hufflepuff to throw and simulate for the Ravenclaw.
⠀⠀Plenty of training sessions went like this for him in the past, he had to make up for what he couldn't get. Resources were of course for the Quidditch team, but he had a mean arm and only needed some room. Of course, having another was a plus. Reid picked his broom up from the floor, a Nimbus 2001; classic choice. He came up to the air and held the beater bat in another hand, the other still held the ball. ' Let me know when or if you got questions. ' This exercise was less of a show of strength and more of a show of control; see how each student could knock their ball back to the other.

Much like Reid, Elias had mellowed somewhat with age. No longer hot headed and constantly clashing with Thomas (though he still did on occasion), the boy found himself much more focused on his studies. Ever since having to end his brief stint on the quidditch team at the request of his mother, the boy had been attempting to get his grades back up - hopefully high enough that he could convince her to allow him to return to the game. It was what he really craved, after all.
Unfortunately, despite the fact that his grades were quite good comparatively to the rest of the student populous, his mother still wasn't having it. So, at least for the time being, practicing with Reid like this would have to do. Steadying himself atop his own Nimbus 1700 he sent a nod in the Hufflepuff's direction. "Ready." He replied, voice flat, yet a hint of excitement peering through. It had been quite some time since he'd had the privilege of practicing with anyone - let alone a beater as talented as Reid. The sixth year had been good, especially during his heyday. Some might argue he was still in it... but as far as Elias knew, Reid had no intention of returning to quidditch and was therefore - washed.
Preparing himself by rolling his shoulders to stretch them out, the Ravenclaw tightened his grip on his bat and awaited the volley Reid was about to send his way. With any luck, he'd be able to send it back. God, did it ever feel good to be back on his broom. "I'll try my best to keep up."

⠀⠀' No worries, we'll start easy. ' Reassurance danced in his tone; it was just practice. Reid found much of his friends or acquaintances to be Ravenclaws, it was an ongoing trend in his life. It was a problem to him at first, he thought he couldn't make friends with much of the other two houses. But his constant run in with the other two houses tended to be negative when he was younger, he didn't have the patience for it. Either too rude or too mischievous, Reid was often left at odds with many of of the lions or snakes.
⠀⠀Unfortunately for him, or fortunately, he wasn't spineless and that only served to further the divide. He could disagree with Ravenclaws, but they were reasonable at the very least. Once he had reached a tolerable height and his practice partner did too, Reid raised the ball. ' Heads up! ' It was tossed into the air and he gave it a solid hit towards Elias. It lacked the brutality of most of his hits, this was him simply testing accuracy and control. Whether he planned to return the courtesy didn't matter, he just had his own goals in mind. Power could be easily put in, but this wasn't an attempt to knock him from his broom.
⠀⠀If anything, he wised up about how much power can be less of a factor into many things. When his run with the badgers was a thing, he only cared about one thing; how hard could he knock someone out? It wasn't a matter of if, but when. Yet whenever he did so, Kovacs put an alarming emphasis on the THWACK of that bludger. Horrifying to see someone get hit by it at first, but satisfying to some degree. He wasn't a total monster about it, but it did take a certain kind of person to willingly do it over and over again.

As he steadily rose, Reid's assurance somewhat quieted his nerves. It was nice to know that at the very least the boy wasn't going to blast him right of his broom - at least not right away anyways. He'd hopefully be given a few volleys back and forth to get his bearings and dial in his depth perception. Both things quite important to beating... or rather playing quidditch in general. This bizarre little quidditch subsection they had set out to practice though lent especially on those skills.
At Reid's call of heads up, the boy prepared himself even more, eyes dialing on the ball and allowing his bat to become an extension of his arm. Similarly to the boy in the air with him, Elias wasn't going for as much power as he possibly could. He needed to make sure his accuracy was on point to begin with - otherwise, this exercise didn't have much purpose."Nice first hit," He called out before swinging his arm with a slight bend in the elbow and rotating just before he made contact, the ball let out a resounding THWACK as it sprung off his bat and back towards the Hufflepuff.
Watching the ball sail through the air back towards Reid, Eli couldn't help but feel satisfied. There was very few things better in this world than that noise, especially on a slightly damp morning like the one they were experiencing. "Incoming!" The boy called out, making sure to offer Reid an audible cue himself, along with the one the ball had produced.

⠀⠀The sound cracks through the air, like lightning whipping through the thin wispy air of the highland morning. He's pleased, expression only highlighting it further with the raised brow. ' Well done! ' Reid's voice cuts through the clamor, arm already pulling back in some effort to direct the ball. Like what he did before, he announced it's exit from his side. ' Watch it! ' His bat connects, sending it with the intention of letting it deviate every so slightly from its path; like curving a football. It wasn't meant to sabotage, mainly to add some flair to their excercise.
⠀⠀In between this all, he asks a rather simple question to the Ravenclaw. ' By the way, are you rejoining Quidditch? ' He was aware of Elias' brief stint in the team, he was a few years younger and certainly was in a good position to consider. There was some consideration in his query, a curiosity that had very little impact to his choice at the moment. He felt that he ultimately would not return for the sake of various reasons. But it would be nice to see someone like Elias make a comeback, otherwise, it was just plesant to watch the game in general. He already made his mark in his school years at Hogwarts, surely he'd be that annoying individual who wouldn't stop talking about their win against Durmstrang.

Focusing more on what Reid was doing than what he was saying, the boy's eyes drew in on the path his bat took, but also how he moved after he made contact with the ball. That was how you could really tell where it was headed, at least in Elias' eyes. The second he had processed the information the Ravenclaw began moving - readjusting his positioning in the air to allow himself an easier contact with the ball. "Tricky shot!" He called out, with a slight laugh as a smug smile spread across his face. If Reid was upping the difficulty, that meant he could too.
Hitting the ball a little harder than he had the first time, the Ravenclaw boy sent it back towards Reid, a slight bobble in the ball as it flew. It was as though the boy had hit a knuckle ball with the way it flew. "Coming back to you!" he called out before beginning to contemplate the sixth years final question. Was he going to rejoin quidditch? Maybe if his mum would let him... unfortunately, that was unlikely. At least for the foreseeable future it was unlikely. "Don't reckon my mum would allow it, what about you though? You were always one of my favourite beaters to watch, you know."
