It's a small world after all pv Valarie Song Closed

After a bit of time wandering the halls, somehow, Valarie had aimlessly wandered into the library. She walked around the practicality empty library. She wasn’t looking for anything really. She only saw one other person. Valarie didn’t recognize her. A Hufflepuff, Valarie thought, based on the girl’s uniform. Valarie scanned the titles of some of the books in the area and was about to leave when the girl turned to her.
“Oh! Hello! No I am not really looking for anything. I just sort of wandered into here. I am Valarie Song, first year Ravenclaw. What’s your name?” She asked. It was then when Valarie noticed the huge book the girl had out in front of her. Valarie moved a bit closer to further examine the book. At first it just seemed like a family tree of sorts but when Valarie looked closer, a family name caught her eye. Song. That was the family name. Valarie instantly recognized the names listed in her family. She wondered why the girl’s book had her family in it. Were they related? “Wait a moment- why is my family listed in that book of yours?” Valarie asked the Hufflepuff. She continued to search the book for any clues as to why her family was in the book.

"Nice to meet you, Valarie! I'm Aurora, Aurora Griffith, 1st year Hufflepuff. you said that...your last name was...Song....right?" I said this last part very slowly, as my eyes flicked from Valarie to the book, and back. Song! Her last name was Song! The very family I had been looking at in my book. Then Valarie seemed to notice my book, and she asked, "Wait a moment- why is my family listed in that book of yours?" My mind went blank, and I blinked. So it wasn't a coincidence! I thought. This girl really was part of the family in my book! "Er...." I said in a sort of gurgled voice. "I-It's-It's a- genealogy book. It details pure-blood wizard families and such. This is my mother's family's genealogy book, the Moriartys. I just found your family tree right now..." My mind was spinning. How could the stars align in such a way, that this situation could occur??? "I think we might be related, but I'm not completely sure...what's your parents' names?" I asked. There were quite a few names, and I needed to check... "And, uh, who are your grandparents?" added. I had gone over the list of names for what felt like a hundred times, drinking in all the information, so I would probably recognize any names that Valarie said if we really were really related.

Aurora. Aurora Griffith. That was her name. She asked if Valarie’s last name was Song, her thought was to clarify, so she nodded. The book she held was genealogy book of her family. It also happens to be my family tree.
“Well my mother’s name is Kaitlyn. Her full name is Kaitlyn Grace Martin Song. Her mother’s name was Emily I believe and her father’s name was Adam. My father is Alexander George Song. Both of his parents died before I met them but their names were James and Violet,” Valarie explained to Aurora who had asked her family’s names.
“I also have an older sister in sixth year named Adeline Marie Song in case you see her in the book.” She couldn’t help but think about how cool it would be if she was related to Aurora. She didn’t see her extended family often especially on her father’s side of the family because he didn’t get along with them. Her mother had several siblings and she was sure at least a few had children but if they did she had yet to meet them.
“Would- would you mind if I took just a small peak at you book? Maybe I’ll recognize names of your family if we are related?” She asked.

Valarie gave me the names of her parents and grandparents, and even her sister, and I quickly flipped through the book looking for those names. Okay...wait a minute...oh! there was a name I recognized! "Oh, wait! Wait, wait, WAIT! Hold on..." I flipped through the book back to the family tree of Nanny's intermediate family. Well, won't you look at that, one of her six siblings was named Emily! "Oh! Then that means that Emily, your maternal grandmother, is my great-aunt on my mum's side!" I hoped that made sense. I searched through the book some more, finding different names as Valarie told them to me. "Yeah, I think I saw your sister in there somewhere, let me check-" Sure enough, Adeline Marie Song was right under Kaitlyn Grace Marie Song and Alexander George Song, as well as Valrie's name. "Wow...this is just- wow." I said, and for once, I was completely lost for words. I gave Valarie the genealogy book and said, "You might recognize some names if you know the extended family on your mom's side..." I said. "I haven't really gone that in-depth to it though, but I'd be happy to let you borrow it for the time being!" I said, smiling a little.

Valarie glanced over the book and like Aurora said, she recognized most of the names in the family tree. There, however, was still one thing on her mind. How come the girls had yet to meet?
“It is quite odd that we have yet to meet, don’t you think?” She voiced her question. She reached her hand up to mess with her hair but forced it back down. She refused to start her nervous habit. She flipped a few pages in book of Auror- Aurora and Valarie’s family tree. The more pages she flipped the less names she recognized. Valarie smiled and set the book back down on the table in front of Aurora.
“I guess we are…” she paused, unsure of the correct term. Terms for family members weren’t a strong suit of the curly haired Ravenclaw’s. “Cousins? Sorry if that is not what we technically are,” said Valarie, continuing the thought from before. A light smile formed on Valarie’s lips as she thought of the fact she and Aurora were actually related. The only other family member at her school was her older sister but since they were not close, it would be nice to have a friend the same age as her that she could actually get along with.

"Yeah, it kind of is..." I said in response to Valarie's question. "But you know what's really funny?" I asked, running a hand through my short red hair. "What's really funny is that as soon as I opened the book and turned to your family, you came along! I wonder if it's a happy coincidence, what do you think?" The fact that I had just met my relative was jarring. I did the math. "Well, we don't share the same grandmother, because my grandmother is your great-aunt. But, we do share the same great-grandparents, so I think that makes us 2nd cousins!" I had honestly thought that the only person here related to me was my older brother, who was a 4th year. I guess not, then. It made me happy to know that I had actual family at Hogwarts, and especially glad to know that it was a girl in my year, if not in my house. It felt good to know that I wasn't alone. How differently would things have turned out if I was a pureblood? That was a bit of a scary thought since the difference would've been gargantuan. "So...I guess...we should get to, you know, get to know each other more?" I asked, hesitantly. It took some effort to form the words I wanted to say, honestly. But I really was hoping that Valarie could be my friend as well as family...maybe? Hopefully.

Valarie smiled at Aurora’s remark. It was quite funny that she wandered into her right after she flipped to her family in the book.
“I think we are very lucky have met one another! Me coming along was just an added bonus,” Valarie replied to her cousin.
“Yes you are right. We should get to know one another more. If it is all right with you, I will start. I have one older sister, a sixth year in Slytherin, named Adeline. My mother was in Hufflepuff in my father was in Gryffindor. As you can tell, we have many houses in the family!” she paused to laugh for a moment. “At home I have three cats and here at Hogwarts, I have a troublemaking cat named Fred. I really enjoy reading and it is something I do a lot,” Valarie told Aurora.
Oh! You can call me Val or Vala if you wish! All my friends do.” Valarie wrapped up the facts about her. She was very excited about finding her cousin at Hogwarts and had no doubt they would be great friends! Aurora was certainly a very kind girl which Valarie had to guess was part of her Hufflepuff housing. She smiled at Aurora and waited for her to tell her more about herself.

"Yeah, it is pretty great that we met! I hear that pureblood families are crazy big, especially the older ones, but I come from a very big family, and so do you too, apparently." I said. Even though I wasn't a pureblood, I still had a lot of pureblood family members, and also wizard-born, half-blood, and even muggleborn family members. "Oh, really? Slytherin? That's cool! I have an older brother, he's in his 4th year, in Hufflepuff like me. His name's Samuel, though everybody calls him either Sam or Sammy. He's the world's biggest jerk, but still, it makes me feel better to know that he's around. You said your mother was in Hufflepuff? That's great! I wonder if my mother knew any of your family members, she was a Ravenclaw. Her name's Elodie. My grandmother's name is Nora Moriarty, and she was in Hufflepuff, and my grandfather, Lyle, was in Gryffindor. But, he's not living anymore, so I don't know much about him." I think I have some Slytherin family members, like my Aunt Muriel." I thought it was good to have different houses scattered throughout your family, we could all do with some variety, even from Slytherin. When my grandmother, Nanny, was my age, her family was one of those stereotypical snooty pureblood families that always bragged about their blood purity and stuff. For once, they weren't all Slytherins, but just a large heap of Ravenclaws, who wanted all their descendants to be in Ravenclaw. Except for a couple of them, like Nanny. She turned out to be a Hufflepuff, of course. "I have pets too! Well, just one at home. I have a dog named Merlin. I love animals. Here, I have a brown rat named Cocoa, she's pretty feisty. My dad's parents, they're muggles, own a horse ranch in Wales, and sometimes I visit and get to see the horses. I like reading too! My favorite book is Lord of the Rings. I also like muggle films. Do you have a favorite book?" I was talking in such a rush at this point that I didn't stop for a nanosecond to breathe, and I eventually ended up inhaling a very big breath. I could tell that my face was very red, and I was breathing as if I had just run a marathon. "Sorry about that," I puffed, out of breath, even though I was grinning like a madman. "I'm just...very excited! And I'll keep that last thing in mind, Val! Plus, you can call me Ro, it's what my friends call me, though if you can think of something more creative, feel free!" I said. Val is a very nice nickname for a very pretty name, I thought to myself. I knew in an instant that Val and I would make great friends.

Valarie listened as Aurora told her about her older brother in Hufflepuff.
“Yeah I understand what you mean about jerk siblings. My sister is definitely one of the biggest jerks probably in the school.” Valarie sighed when she mentioned her sister. Adeline was a topic she didn’t like to discuss much. Aurora told her about her pets, a dog named Merlin. Valarie had never been partial to dogs but did perfectly fine with them. Aurora’s favorite book was Lord of the Rings, a story Valarie had never heard of. She also enjoyed muggle films.
“That’s cool! I like muggle and wizardry books and I’m really happy my parents allow me to read muggle stories because we are pure bloods but they have always been interested in muggles so they let me read as much muggle stories as I want. I really enjoy the Keeper of the Lost Cities series. I haven’t seen many muggle films but they sound interesting!” Aurora’s face was a bit red and her breathing was heavy. She apologized for talking so much but Valarie just smiled.
“Don’t worry about it!” she told Aurora, holding back a laugh. Aurora proceeded to tell her that she could call her Ro.
