An Unexpected Meeting
Amaris headed down the moving staircases, something that still irritated her despite how often she had to go on them. Who thought having those stairs was a good idea? They were a safety hazard and made travelling around Hogwarts more difficult than it needed to be. She walked through the corridors, her shoes making a clacking sound against the ground with every step. She noted the few portraits hanging on the walls. Ever since she had arrived at Hogwarts, she had made it a habit to remember a few specific portraits in each corridor to make sure she wouldn’t get lost. She turned away from the animated people on the canvases as she spotted a particularly memorable one.
Her thoughts returned to her next class. What was it again? It was probably Charms or perhaps Transfiguration. It could be either, Amaris wasn’t too sure. She hadn’t bothered to memorise her schedule though, in hindsight, she probably should’ve. The last thing she needed in such a big school was to arrive at the wrong class and have to find her way all over again.
She continued to walk, deciding to keep going. Charms and Transfiguration were in the same direction so she could wait a while before checking. Hopefully, by then she would remember the class to avoid the hassle of stopping in the middle of a hallway to check.

An Unexpected Meeting
Ashley felt like everything was taking much longer than he had anticipated because of all the up and down he had to go while attending these lectures. It wasn't even lunchtime yet. " Can this day finish already? " Ashley muttered under his breath.
He read a book while pacing to the next class, notwithstanding how strange he was.
Funny thing was, the red book he was holding had nothing to do with any of the courses he had been attending. He was totally absorbed in it. He also appeared to be holding a book written by Miranda Goshawk, The Book Of Spells. Individuals who knew would have noticed that this was a charms book, indicating that it was time for charms lecture.
Ashley's gaze landed on a recognizable face when he finally looked up from the book he was reading. He couldn't recall the name of the Griffyndor Lass, but he was able to clearly recall that they had an awkward encounter and shared a compartment on the Hogwarts Express. She appeared disoriented and agitated.
" Ama?" He inquired to himself considering that he was now close to the girl.
The girl had a distinguishing trait Ashley adored the most, mostly because she reminded him of his grandmother. He chose to take a moment to talk to the lassie and gave her his first elegant smile.
" Are you okay? " Ashley approached the girl and spoke politely to her whilst sounding concerned.

An Unexpected Meeting
Amaris turned her head around as a voice called out, one that seemed to be addressing her. "Huh? Oh, hello." Her gaze fell on a familiar face, Ashley. Their only encounter had been on the Hogwarts Express where they had shared a compartment. It had been an awkward situation where silence was mostly shared between them for the duration of the journey though from her limited experience, he seemed to be a pleasant person.
The nickname was unexpected, but endearing at the same time. No one had ever called her anything other than Amaris besides her family, least of all someone who she had talked with once before. She smiled back at him, finding it only fitting that she did so after Ashley did as well.
The girl nodded before speaking. "Yeah, I'm fine." She noted the concerned tone in his voice, she didn't appear too clueless, did she?
She glanced at the book he was holding in his hand, a charms book that they had been required to buy. He seemed to have been reading it before noticing her, a strange decision considering how easily he could’ve bumped into someone or something. “Is Charms your next class?” she asked.

An Unexpected Meeting
Ashley appeared to be very relieved to speak with Ama. He had the impression that he had known Ama for years. He nodded in response to Ama's inquiry about his next lesson being charms. On this particular day, Griffyndor and Ravenclaw first years were scheduled to attend together.
"What spells are you now proficient in, Ama? I hope everything in your life at Hogwarts, including your studies, is going well "He asked in a free-spirited manner.
He chose to put his book down so he wouldn't be disrespectful while making my way to charms class. He proceeded, "I am pleased to share my textbook with you, we can sit together during class." Observing that Ama was only confused about which class to attend next, he assumed that Ama did not have her textbook on her.
This undoubtedly stunned the young woman. Even though Ashley was little uncomfortable that he was pleasant, he chose to go along with his feelings. It was genuine and not a phony. Ashley started to move as he looked at the time and realized that class would begin in ten minutes. If Ama loved it, she would opt to follow. He felt a little discomfort in the corridor because it looked to be walled off and was making him perspire.

An Unexpected Meeting
Amaris could recall that the Gryffindors and the Ravenclaw first years had their first class together so when Ashley nodded, confirming his next lesson, she was thankful. It certainly relieved her of her conundrum of not knowing what the next class was.
“Ehm, I can’t really say I’m proficient in anything.” she replied, , surprised at Ashley’s attitude. Compared to their interactions on the Hogwarts Express, it seemed that years had passed between them. She couldn’t really say that she was proficient at anything since she had only been at the school for two days and whilst she had a hang of a few spells, she hadn’t had the chance to practise to a great extent. “Thanks, you too.” Amaris continued.
As Ashley put his book down, Amaris realised her lack of a charms textbook, a crucial mistake on her part. Why hadn’t she brought it with her in the morning just in case? She considered turning back to her common room to collect it but it could cause her to be late for class. She was exempted from making a decision as Ashley offered to share his textbook with her, an unexpected gesture.
She smiled after she fully registered his words. “Oh, thanks!” Amaris said. She seemed to be thanking Ashley a lot throughout their conversation. Glancing at the time, she began to follow after Ashley.

An Unexpected Meeting
Ashley seemed to be in his usual lax approach as the two of them began to walk together.
Because he tends to be very introspective, the Gryffindor girl abruptly interrupted him as she answered, "Ehm, I can't really say I'm proficient in anything."
"Not proficient, you say?"
She seemed intelligent and courageous, which is why she was grouped with the Lions, but the lad didn't believe her. Despite the fact that Ashley put a lot of effort into his work, he always made sure to practice or review the spells he had learned in class. He needed all the might he could muster up here at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in order to accomplish his aim.
The girl thanked him for offering to share his textbook after which he nodded and retreated to his thoughts. But instead of letting the conversation fizzle out, he chose to ask her many questions before he could fully immerse himself in his thoughts.
" Tell me, Ama, how Griffyndor is doing. Acquired new pals? What subject are you most excited about?" He asked out of interest.
Since Amaris was somehow familiar to Ashley, he found it simpler to communicate with her.
Ashley typically only spoke when it was necessary; otherwise, he would be in his thoughts or conversing with himself about his surroundings and people around him, or he would simply read a book.

“Uh, yeah,” Amaris replied as Ashley commented on her proficiency in spells. She had reviewed the spells but she had intended to do some practical work in her dormitory tonight. Wondering if Ashley was judging her for her response, she continued to walk beside him.
Ashley nodded after the girl thanked her and she fell silent. Her gaze wandered around the student body, though her attention was once again directed at Ashley as he spoke again. He definitely had improved his ability to carry a conversation. Was it just familiarity that resulted in that change?
“Eh, Gryffindor’s pretty nice. I met some people.” Amaris replied. She had talked with a few people but not a lot, and that suited her just fine. As for her house, she hadn’t originally expected that she would end up in Gryffindor but the other students in the house had seemed nice. “Defence against the Dark Arts seems fun. What subjects are you excited about?” She couldn’t wait for Defence against the Dark Arts, a class she had later today. The idea of it intrigued her and Amaris was eager to partake in that class to see what exactly they would be learning. The existence of that class also meant that Dark Arts were also a thing, something that Amaris lacked knowledge of.

After hearing the reply, Ashley immediately sighed. He was currently at a loss for words and unsure of how to respond to the Griffyndor lass. As per usual, he almost fell into thought, but the lass spoke up again and stated, “Eh, Gryffindor’s pretty nice. I met some people.” He nodded once more, his attention still being on Ama. "I'm delighted you fit in," he said abruptly. "You wouldn't know what to say if I started telling you about my journey, which is already wild." While his last retort was blatantly sarcastic, he continued.
“Defence against the Dark Arts seems fun. What subjects are you excited about?”
Ashley stopped as the girl asked him that question, partly because he had no idea which subject to choose from those taught at Hogwarts. However, he did feel a certain distance toward some subjects, such as the History Of Magic. Therefore, in order to perform at his best, he did set aside time between tasks to at least try to understand the notion of gargoyles and whatever else, which caused him to perform below par because he lacked desire resulting him to get E's. However, Professor Caradoc truly inspired the Lad during class, and he aspires to develop interest over time.
"I'll say it out loud: they all seem to have interesting knowledge positioned within each subject. The lectures are enjoyable as well." he responded. After finally putting his mind at ease regarding which to choose before deciding to simply pick all,

An Unexpected Meeting
Ashley sighed at her reply, making Amaris pause and think if there was something wrong with what she said or the way she said it. Thankfully, it seemed more flippant than anything else. The boy went on, continuing the conversation. “I’m sure I can guess.” Amaris remarked to the boy’s sarcastic words. Not much had happened to her over the course of her short few days at Hogwarts, not something out of the ordinary at least. Getting sorted, the new dormitories, her first classes, were all still rather large ordeals for her.
Ashley contemplated his favorite subject for a while after Amaris questioned him. He finally answered without an exact answer, rather preferring all of them. She could see why as all the subjects were pretty interesting though she definitely enjoyed certain subjects more. It was all part of a completely new world she had never heard of before she received her letter, so Amaris welcomed all new knowledge about magic. She wondered if the people who knew about the magical world felt the same. After all, perhaps some subjects such as History of Magic would be more boring to them. Amaris also had to admit, homework for that subject was a tad bit tedious; she had never had much interest in historical events.
