Location: Дурмстранг (Durmstrang Institute)
Dated: 16 January 2023.
Sender: Askeli Helvig
Recipient: Johannes Sauer
Description:
[One of the assumedly many letters making its rounds within Durmstrang's halls. Dressed in a plain, unassuming envelope, the front seems strangely bare without the presence of an appropriate address or need for postage stamps. Instead, a haphazardly sketched, half-finished game of tic-tac-toe has been drawn in the top right corner. Had they continued, the game would have resulted in a draw.

The envelope is addressed to a certain Johannes Sauer, sealed with metallic red wax pressed into the Hellhound Pack's crest. Its sender, Akseli “Axel” Helvig, has forgone owl-based delivery in favour of the longtime Pack tradition of training errand boys. Indeed, this letter has been tucked between book pages and pressed close to heavy winter clothing as the young Atanus Draganov- a Hellhound whose honour Johannes has previously and unashamedly defended - sought the German out by the Quidditch fields.

If anyone (read: Horntail Horde or fellow Hounds) were to have been present at the time, they would have been able to pick up Atanus' ill-stifled hero worship, lingering long after being dismissed by Johann.

The letter reads as follows, in rough translation:]

Dear Hannes,

I hope this letter finds you well so far away from us, if not physically then spiritually. Know that we're always rooting for you (even if the smuggler we get newspapers from is getting increasingly annoyed.) Stefan would never admit it, but I know he and some of the younger ones are taking your prolonged absences particularly hard.

If the Pack weren’t so grateful for your frequent letters in lieu of actual presence at meetings, I’d scold you thoroughly over the work you’ve been forcing on these poor boys. You only follow protocol when it benefits you, I know, but I thought we taught you better than this. We're in the same castle, for heaven's sake! I've been permitting it when you went overseas (where did Hogwarts even find those long-flying owls?) but we still need to talk face-to-face too. Stop pretending like you can't crash in my dorms. My door is always open, so don't make me kidnap you from training.

Are you getting along well with the Hexwizard team? I've heard there's been a rift between you and Cielle... just say the word and we can handle it together. I trust your judgement over the public's, especially with this international buzz. I've been part of the group trying to convince the higher-ups that your international excursions currently supersede Pack duties (If you feel guilty, I'll beat you up myself), but it's a slow-going campaign. It's too early to say I'm optimistic about the results of our efforts, but Durmstrang proves that enough persistence can get you anywhere. Your input would do wonders, but it's not required. Regardless, I'll send frequent updates so let's hope things don't go nuclear...

Take care,
=====Axel

Additional:
If one were to peer inside the seemingly blank envelope and cast the ink-revealing spell, one would find a short note penned inside in deep blue ink. It has been written in German, the handwriting far more deliberate in secrecy. To read this, they would be required to tear open the envelope itself - a feat made less difficult with the aid of magic.

Information's hard to tell from gossip anymore within some of the higher levels, but they've been discussing your validity in Hexwizard. It's not looking pretty - I'd advise you to owl the Boss. When you get the chance, meet me at our usual and we’ll try figuring something out too. Good luck.
