Mother Dearest,
Please, don't worry about me. I am having an excellent time so far. The train ride was quicker than I thought it would be, and the grounds are simply magnificent. You would not believe the beauty that I get to see everyday now. I live in an actual, literal castle.
The school is split into a system of houses. Not only do we share class schedules and dormitories with the people in our houses, but we are also said to share key personality traits.
That being said, I was sorted into Ravenclaw house. We are known for wit, creativity, and a dedication to our learning. Our colors are navy and bronze, and we are represented by an eagle. Yes, I know. An EAGLE for RAVENclaw. I suppose we didn't want to be obvious.
Well, that's pretty much all I have for now. I hope things are well with you too!
Love always,
Jordan

Mother Dearest,
Thank you so much for your earlier letter. I did receive the treats you sent with it! I am happy to taste your fudge again. It always makes it feel like Christmastime when you make the marbled kind.
Classes have been fine so far. I don't think I remembered to mention the food last time. (Though that's probably why you sent me a treat, so maybe I should continue letting you wonder about it!) It's actually glorious. It's probably magic, but it's almost like everyone's favorite everything. There are heaping piles of meats, potatoes, vegetables . . . anything you'd dream of, really . . . every single night at the feast.
Sorry to report that I do not have any real friendships, per say. At least, not yet. That doesn't mean I won't make any friends. I just haven't been able to meet the right sort, I suppose. I promise to write you as soon as I have such a person around, I just can't promise you when that will be, as it does depend on someone else liking me.
Anyways. I love you, mum. Please tell me more about life back home!
Love always,
Jordan
P.S. Fell free to send more sweets!

Mother Dearest,
It does appear that most people here have friend groups of their own already. I'm starting to wonder if I'll be able to make it into any of them or not. I guess it wouldn't be too terrible to be on my own at this school. The ground are beautiful, the classes are interesting, and there is always something new to learn. At the very least, I am able to make it through quite a few new tomes in my free time.
I have been researching more into the kinds of careers that one can have as a magical being. I figured, if I'm going to be working hard, it should probably be for a goal. I always thought that I would be a translator or spy growing up, and there are similar things for magical folk. The Aurors are like magical police, and they work with the Ministry, which is basically the magical government building, but it also seems like a catch-all. One of the most profitable newspapers comes out of the Ministry building (yes, I also find that suspicious), as well as many strange departments like those of the department of mysteries, accidental magic, and regulation and control of magical creatures (which I hear has changed drastically thanks to a Hogwarts alumnus).
I'm still figuring out where I would belong in this great new world. Right now, I think Curse Breaker is in my top slot, but I still haven't read about everything, so I'll have to get back to you on that.
Love always,
Jordan

Dearest Mother,
I think I've changed my mind. I may decide to be a Mediwix after all. It turns out that magical healing is still a profession! You can work in producing the potions and salves that you know work, as a potioneer of some sort, developing new cures as an alchemist, or even in administering those cures as a healer.
Our own Madame Pomfrey is not just a glorified school nurse; she told me that she's regrown bones before. It's really quite enchanting. That being said, I have not signed my soul away to this yet, as I'm sure there's a million more possible careers to research, but this does seem to be a promising one.
I do hope that you've found something to fill your afternoons with now that I'm no longer there to bother you every day. Perhaps you could take up baking! I'm sure I would love to be your taste-tester. Particularly if you decide to try to make peanut butter fudge. I do miss peanut butter fudge.
It seems most of the treats here want to run away or harm you in some way! It's like you can't even enjoy a simple lolly without the taste of blood in your mouth. Honestly, even the chocolate tries to run away from your before it can be eaten. It's kind of frustrating.
Anyway, I do miss you lots and lots, and I am looking forward to your next letter! (And perhaps your next care package?)
Love always,
Jordan
