Newcomer!
Conan, his brand new wand in hand, with his big suitcase and his brand new cape, timidly enters the magical menagerie. He was struck by the noise: snakes crawling, owls in their cages, cats, funny hairy ball creatures... yes, there really were! Even though he was born a wizard and had always been around this kind of place, when, for example, at the beginning of the year, his brother was going to show him around the shops of Traverse Road, he understood how going there alone, and for him, was incredibly different! The boy was startled when a large grey cat poked him on the foot with its head. Conan lifted his leg and the animal casually walked by. Suddenly he heard a high-pitched scream and turned around in fear: nothing but a little girl who had seen a rabbit. He looked at the object of the little girl's lust. Small, white, with a coat that seemed so silky and with that little pink nose that was so cute, it was slightly too "cute" for Conan.
A tall man with a hat asked to pass and the boy, who then realised that he was blocking the way for quite a few people, shyly shifted to the side and landed, by pure chance, near the rabbit cage. The little girl was gone now, and he could get a closer look at them. The hind leg of one of them tapped nervously against the cage and he couldn't help but chuckle, shortly before a large grey owl flew over his head. Shortly after, a second, smaller owl landed on Conan's head and the previous one turned around and put its silky feathers on the boy's intimidated right shoulder.
But the rabbit swatted the cage with his paw, causing the two birds to flee. What a mess!
Then the boy noticed a beautiful black and white rabbit in the next cage, looking at him with big round eyes and a quivering snout. It had a drooping ear and, as if manipulated by a machine, Conan reached out to pick it up, but it fell back limply. The boy laughed, and the rabbit, to his surprise, put its paw on his hand and laid its pretty head on it. Then he closed his eyes. The boy couldn't help but tremble at such affection, and he knew that this animal would be his. He wondered if it was like the wand, if it was the animal that chose the master and not the other way round.
Conan withdrew his hand, grabbed the cage and took a look at the animal. The animal, not at all surprised, shook its head in all directions, as if to say "go ahead, take me!
Then, confidently, the boy presented it to the seller:
- I... I would like this one!
The salesman, a tall man with white hair, smiled at him, as if he had already understood that the two were somehow connected.
Conan paid him and left. Once outside, he smiled, admired the rabbit, smiled again, gave it a little kiss on the tip of the nose and said:
- Your name will be Peter!
