Platform 9 3/4 was everything Winter had ever dreamed it would be. As the eldest of three, she'd never been to the platform before to see an older sibling off to school. Today, however, she and her two siblings were chaperoned by their doting parents, who smiled to each other at the awe on their children's faces. Winter didn't notice, too busy taking in the hustle and bustle of the train station around her.

They had walked through a wall to get here, for goodness' sake! How incredible was that?

She'd known what to expect, of course, just like any wizard-born child of her age. She'd known about the magical barrier preventing muggles from stumbling onto their platform, about the brilliant crimson train that would be awaiting her there, about the hundreds and hundreds of people milling around - but knowing it and seeing it were two completely different things.

Winter was beyond excited to start school, and it showed in her blue eyes as she looked around with wonder. Her father gave her a hug; her mother kissed her cheek. Her siblings clamored that they, too, wished to go to Hogwarts. Winter took it all in with a smile. She loved her family, and she would miss them, but this was a new adventure, and it was all hers. This was the first time she would ever do anything beyond her family's embrace, and she had to admit that, though it was daunting, it was also exciting.

The whistle blew; it was time. With one last hug and kiss for her family, Winter boarded the train and found a compartment. There, she waved until she could no longer see her family or the platform, and then she settled down with one of her school books to wait.
