Libraries.

Kayla thought she had had enough of those at her time in Hogwarts.

It was soon after Christmas and she was jogging down the road to a library, a bag at her side and her phone in her pocket, she had headphones on her head. She couldn't imagine how she had survived half a year without her music. Sure, the wizard radio exsisted but she didn't have a wizard radio. Curse the fact that her brother refused to buy her things.

Why, some may ask, was she going to the libraries if she hated them so much?
Good question. Kayla just didn't have the answer for that question.

She was just laying at home and her father said she wasn't being 'active' enough. Liam could've talked her dad from making Kayla run outside, but Liam moved out after Christmas, so she didn't have a back up plan. After the torture of two gymnastics classes Kayla said she was done with veing active. But her father thought differently.

So that's where she was now. Running in the snow.

Kayla didn't mind running, but it was snowing. Why would you be running in the snow? You're supoosed to be snuggled up in a blanket trying to keep warm while sipping a cup of tea.
When Ksyla thought of tea, she thought a Sirin Liu. A girl that Kayla was good friends with at Hogwarts. Kayla's heart fluttered a bit and she slowed her pace thinking of the girl. But she smiled and shook her head, and picked up her pace and continued to run.

Kayla finally reached her destination, without even breaking a sweat. That was great! Her father was right, but Kayla wasn't going to say anything.

"Bore da, annwyl!"1 The librarian greeted Kayla. Welsh. Damn you, cursed laguage. Kayla couldn't speak Welsh. But greeting was easy enough.
"Bore da!"2 Kayla knew the words probably sounded strange, but she went to take a seat at a table before the librarian could start a full on Welsh conversation with her.

Cynthia really just wanted to spend some time with her father. Can’t she even do that? No, apparently, because bad Welsh speakers in the library was just another perk of her life. Why not? Disgusting Welsh from Kayla Realma. Right, why not?

Cynthia snapped her head up from a book and whispered to William, her father, because they were in a library, ‘Mae fy nghyd-ddisgybl i yma. Gadewch i mi fynd i wirio arni, na?’ My classmate’s here. Let me check on her, no? ’ Ie wrth gwrs. Byddaf yn mynd i'r gwesty yn fuan wedyn. Dewch o hyd i mi yn y lobi.’ Yes, of course. Find me in the hotel soon after. I will be in the lobby.

‘Well bore da!’ Cynthia made sure to pronounce it the proper way. She stood up from the desk. ‘Really Kayla Realma, you are a excellent researcher for the debate club… but my my, you need keep with your Welsh skills don’t you? Really, don’t say no. It is free of charge, after all.’

Cynthia looked closer at Kayla. There was something on her head. First Cynthia was startled, worried that something had gone wrong with Kayla’s ears. Then she relaxed, it was only her ear muffs. But they didn’t look warm… how could that be? Cynthia looked closer. Well it must be something muggles use. What did they call them, ear phones? That wasn’t right. Never mind, that wasn’t important currently.

Kayla began to take things out of her bag as she muttered along to the song she was listening too, taking out a pencilcase and a sketchbook. Her last sketchbook got ruined by the lake because one of her paint tubes exploded in her bag.

She picked out a sharp pencil and started to draw a large butterfly. No real inspiration, but she wasnt sure if she could paint in the library. It was probably forbidden.
While she was drawing the large wings, a voice interrupted her. At first, she thought it was just the music- which was very loud - but it was not. She heard someone speak her name. Nearly full name.

Kayla swiped her phone out of her pocket and paused the song, she looked up and saw the leader of the debate club, Cynthia Beaufort.
"Cynthia, hey, whats up?" She didn't bother respodning to the Welsh good morning, she was trash at the language and it wasn't like Cynthia couldn't speak English. After taking a moment to understand what Cynthia was saying, she frowned and removed her headphones, so they rested around her neck. This would have been a perfect moment to tell the Ravenclaw that Kayla was on holiday and she was trying to relax and draw a butterfly. But Kayla was fond of Cynthia, so she didn't object.
"Sure, alright. We can do that," Kayla agreed, she looked at something on her phone for a brief moment before putting it on the table and stood up. "Just let me get a chair for you, please don't let anyone steal my phone."
She got up and looked around until she spotted an empty chair. Geez, the library was full. And it was holiday! What sensible person went to the library during the holidays?

Kayla dragged the chair back to where Cynthia was standibg and put it next to hers.
"Alright, Proffesor Beaufort where do you want to start?" Kayla asked. Cynthia wasn't a boring person, in Kayla's opinion, so she hoped she was going to be able to concentrate on her Welsh lesson.

[Welsh words are underlined]

Cynthia looked strangely at the ‘phone.’ ‘Uhm, Kayla, first off, what’s a phone? Also just remember I don’t really know the Muggle words in Welsh.’ She glanced over to see a butterfly. ‘You drew that butterfly? You’re really good at drawing!’ Cynthia said. She made sure to properly say the word ‘butterfly’ in Welsh, for Kayla to learn.

‘And to answer your question, I’m doing fine, thank you. And you? Very basic, this means that I am doing fine, thank you. And then I asked you how you are. Now if you would like to reply: Oh, Cynthia, I am very angry with you because you dragged me off to study when I just wanted to draw a butterfly. Cynthia translated what she just said in Welsh and winked at Kayla, a smile tugging at the edge of her mouth.

‘But, if say you were meeting up with your bestie, you would rather say: Oh, I’m doing wonderful, and I’m so glad that I finally escaped from Cynthia’s clutches. Yippee! Cynthia mouth twitched upward again into a smile.

‘Now since that is all very easy, I want you to try to describe this butterfly. Basic colours of the rainbow: Red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, blue, purple pink. These are, respectively, red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, blue, purple, and pink. And of course don’t forget black (black) and white (white). Now, I think you’re ready to describe the butterfly, no?’ She wrote down the colours respectively and set down her quill.

Kayla paused before setting the chair down at Cynthia's question. Whats a phone? That was something everyone knew, she thought!
"Its English, Cynthia. So, uh, its a device where you can communicate with people, I suppose? Also play games, go on social media and many other endless options. Its a lot quicker than owls, by the way. Maybe you should invest in one," she suggested as an after thought. She put the chair down and took her seat on her own chair, and her welsh lessons began.

"glöyn byw?"butterfly she repeated after Cynthia. Did she know what that meant? Nope. But Cynthia started her sentance with a 'did you draw that...', so Kayla could only assume it meant butterfly.
"That means, butterfly, right?" she asked, turning to the back of her sketchbook and scibbling it at the top. She spelt glöyn as gloin. Cynthia was speaking fast, and Kayla's mind (and hand) tried to keep up. She winked at Kayla and Kayla smiled at bit at this sentence, she could easily translate that.
What an informal greeting," she laughed, but she scribbled down everything Cynthia had just said.
Then Cynthia started with the colours, which she thankfully wrote down as she spoke.
Por-ffor,"purple Kayla repeated the name of her favourite colour. Cynthia asked if Kayla was ready to describe her butterfly. Kayla flipled back to her creation. She hadn't gone far...but it was something.
"Uh, sure?" Kayla answered uncertainly.

btw if you wanna teach Kayla how to say the colours of the butterfly- it has purple wings, the bottom of the wing was shaded in yellow. There were dots of blue declrated on the purple part of the wings.

Cynthia did not want to invest in a weird muggle device, thank you very much. What was social media? And what did Kayla mean by games? Like chess? Something else entirely? She gave Kayla a puzzled look, but decided not to press, because they weren’t supposed to be discussing muggle technology today. She did learn a bit about muggles, but not much. She was going to fail muggle studies. Right, that was an elective, she didn’t actually have to do it.

Anyways, Cynthia casted those thoughts out of her mind. She leaned over and smirked when she saw that Kayla spelt glöyn as gloin. ‘Lemme fix that.’ She slid over and scribbled the correct spelling under the incorrect one, before crossing it out. ‘Yeah, it means butterfly. Separately, it means coal and live, so I have no idea why it means what it means.’

‘Yeah, purple, you like that colour, Kayla?’ Cynthia looked closer at the butterfly Kayla just drew. It had purple and yellow wings, with the purple on top and the yellow on the bottom. There were also some blue spots on the butterfly. ‘So, if you were to describe your masterpiece… or rather, mistresspiece,’ Cynthia began. Mistresspiece was a spin on the word ‘masterpiece’, which sounded too masculine, that she quite liked. ‘Wings are wings, top is top, bottom is bottom and spots are spots. I think that’s all you need.’
