The blonde sat silently at the Slytherin table, picking at her food. She had no appetite at the moment. Rather, she was bored. She picked up a piece of cake with her fork and took a bite, thinking. She had plenty to entertain herself with; comics, music, anything she could think of wanting. But why was it that she felt like nothing was fun anymore? Everything had just suddenly become joyless to the young blonde.

Alexx took another bite of cake, slouching down in her seat. Her mind went blank, and she could think no more. Instead, she only sat there, trying to daydream but failing miserably. Not even a fantasy could make her happy. The fantasy in which she wasn't so paranoid, where she wasn't checking every detail of the paper right down to the last drop of ink, worrying that something had happened to her family, not even that could make her happy right now. She sighed, pushing the plate away from her. What good was it to dwell on things that were out of her hands?

The Great Hall was loud, and that was the one aspect she could enjoy. Not always, but right now, it was as if it were white noise. It felt soothing to her. Refreshing. It reminded her that she existed and that other people existed. It reminded Alexx that she was still in a reality, but it was a safer one. A more protected one.

Evelyn was hungry. After exploring what she could of the castle she decided to move her interest to the great hall - were a sweet aroma of food was wafting around the entry hall. The short brown haired girl fiddled with the hem of her shirt as she moved at a leisurely pace towards the hall. Walking down the staircase from the library where she had just visited, she admired the paintings in the halls, moving paintings, she never thought she would see such a thing. But yet here she was, walking through a school of magic with a wand in her back pocket and a skip in her step. If only her Aunt could see her now, that horrible woman would ba in utter shock.

Dismissing the thoughts of her father's horrible sister from her mind she managed to find the entrance to the great hall, not as hard as she originally thought all things considered. She admired the hall, floating candles and all before she moved towards her houses table - Slytherin of course - and looked for a seat. It wasn't overly crowded but she didn't want to sit with a large group, yet she also didn't want to sit alone. Evelyn wandered towards a girl who looked a little lonely sitting by herself.

"Hello!", she greeted cheerfully, " I'm Evelyn, may I sit here?" She asked kindly enough.

Alexx looked up, almost startled by the greeting. But nonetheless, she smiled sweetly. "Of course!" She responded, nodding her head. The girl had short brown hair and appeared to be rather friendly. That was a relief, as Alexx had run into many rude soles whilst wandering about the castle. And, she wasn't going to be opposed to anyone wanting to sit with her. Not in the state that she found herself in, being rather friendless at the moment.

"I'm Alexx by the way." She greeted, sticking her hand out to shake. The brown-haired girl was not a familiar face to Alexx. Although she hadn't had the opportunity to meet many people, she could at least recognize a few faces. But this girl she had never seen before. That means that she hadn't gotten the opportunity to find a reason to dislike Alexx, as at least one person had.

Evelyn seemed nice enough, someone who Alexx wouldn't ultimately mind eating with. She also seemed as though she kept a nice distance between herself and the crowd. By 'the crowd', Alexx was referring to some of the more well-known Slytherin's, especially those of which that had come from well of pure-blood families. Alexx may have been pure-blood, but she wasn't snobby, nor was she well off.

Evelyn took the girls invitation and sat down quickly, placing the book she had had in her hand on the table beside her before grabbing a small plate and piling up some food, she was still quite hungry after all the exploring she had done.

"Nice to meet you Alexx!"
she replied cheerily, she didn't want to seem a bore to this new girl, the only people she had met so far were her dorm mates which - to be fair - she hadn't even talked too much anyways. Her dorm mates were mostly quiet and kept to themselves, while Evelyn couldn't keep a conversation going for the life of her - she was still quite a social young girl all things considered, and coming to a new school had been a strange experience for her. Also factoring in that she knew absolutely no one at Hogwarts. Her father had assured her on the day she had taken the train that she would make some friends when she got there. "It may take a few days" he had said to her, "But being such a social little butterfly, you'll make friends quickly".

"Are you new here as well? A first year?. I am - I've spent the first day or so exploring so I haven't really had the chance to meet anyone". She spoke, before shovelling some food into her mouth. She didn't realize how hungry she was until the food touched her lips. Surprised at how good it was and what variety of food was in the hall. When she first heard that she would be living in the school she assumed she would have the horrible school slop that normal schools served for live in lunches. It was one of the reasons that she had first not wanted to come to the school.

Yes, she was unsure about coming to Hogwarts at first, worried about being away from her family for so long and being stuck in a school with so many people that she didn't know. Eventually - and after her father explained everything to her - she had come around and decided that she would try this school out. Now she had enjoyed herself exploring the wonderous castle, seeing every room and crevice. Even though she had spent the first few hours in her dorm. The brown haired girl could not wait to start classes in the next few days, she was excited to start learning about magic.

"Nice to meet you too." Alexx responded, nodding her head. "And yeah, I'm a first year. I haven't had much luck with friends either if I'm being honest." She told Evelyn, getting started on her own food. It was nice to have someone to keep her company and that was in the same position as she was. Alexx often felt like the only Slytherin who didn't exactly have a friend, or at least an ally. It was truly as if she stuck out like a sore thumb in this sea of green and silver. It didn't make her feel too hot when she walked the halls and everyone was with their friends, and then there she was, walking alone, the way she had been since the first day. To be fair, she hadn't really gone out of her way to make friends, as Alexx could be rather quiet, and preferred to be the type to sit around and wait for life to happen to her.

She remembered the day clearly, the day she boarded the Hogwarts Express. She was alone, no family with her, and everyone else was with theirs, and even friends that they had already made in Diagon Alley, or had already had for years. She felt so misplaced, so strange. This was all so foreign to her. Like she had desperately wanted to fit in, but somehow just didn't. All her life, her and her family had been outliers in the wizarding world. Everyone knew that. Their mysterious disappearance, both her parents being wanted and on the run, the things her family was involved in way back then. It seemed that her families decisions cursed her socially, as she hadn't had much experience with making friends. It was hard enough feeling like she didn't belong, but it was even harder baring the secrets along with the weight of her family. She was too young for this, she didn't deserve it.
