Nothing beat the first snow fall of the season. The joy of the flakes as they drifted down from the heavens to bathe our world in a Crystal white blanket, morphing our one lushes grounds into a winter wonderland. Monica loved winter, the whole season. Hot coco by a roaring fire. The snow crunching under her feet as she tread on it. Building snow forts for epic back yard battles, and friendly snow man to watch over your house through the bitter cold nights. And to top it all off, twas the season of Christmas, probably the most joyful part of the year. Or normally is. Monica often found her time this season, not daydreaming about presents, or getting home, but rather she wondered how she was going to get out of going home for Christmas... Or if her family even wanted her home.

Most days, Monica filled her time with more homework, or playing the odd game with a friend, going for walks, and working on her flying. Though today, she had run out of distracting activities to do. It seemed no one was available to hang out today, the castle seem unusually quite for a Saturday afternoon. Monica sat on her bed, Kiwi resting on her shoulder, sleeping the day away. Monica lifted her hand to nudge the tiny rat, "Well I for one am not losing myself to such dreadful thoughts....Come Kiwi, lets find something to occupy us till supper."

Off they went, out the main doors, and walking along the grounds. Monica came across some other students here and there on her walk, but everyone seemed preoccupied with their own activities... she didn't feel she was able to include herself in.

Eventually her wonderings lead her to the Great Lake, Monica often found herself here. It was the perfect place to get some peace, to think the day away, or even stumble into unexpected circumstances. Monica gazed out over the water's surface... but something seemed off. She neared the shore edge, the sun's reflection on the snow limiting her vision. Finally she reached the water, reaching her foot out she tapped on... not water, but ice. ICE!

The lake had frozen over!

Monica's face beamed at the possibilities... so much to do on a whole frozen lake. She looked around, and didn't see anyone else taking advantage of such an opportunity. She took a small step further out, the ice carrying her farther than her steps did, as she glided along it's surface. She giggled, and spun around, enjoying the lack of friction.

A moment past when Monica had a brilliant idea. She made her way back to shore and started searching for a stick, and a rock. After some testing out branch after branch, she finally found one that seemed to suit her need. Making her way back out to the ice, she place two smaller branches across from each other, making a goal line. Monica took the small stone she found and placed it down on the ice, gliding back a ways with it, her branch being used as a guider for the rock. She finally found a good distance from the sticks she placed as markers. Reeling back her branch, she aimed for the stone and shot it towards the goal line... The branch proved to not be a perfect substitute for a real hockey stick, but it would have to do. Monica glided to retrieve her stone, sliding around her goal mark as she did so, heading back to try another shot. Kiwi, stowed away in Monica's hood, poked her head out to see what the commotion was, before quickly retreating back into the safety and warmth of Monica's robe. Monica aimed her branch, and took another shot... this one went between her goal marks... a perfect shot.

Bubba was just trying to figure out what to do with his Saturday. With it, this Saturday had brought the first snow of the season. It reminded Bubba of home and once he knew it was there he knew he would have to go out and experience it properly. He hadn't gone down right away, however, as much as the snow was calling to him he knew he had work to do. For a start, there was homework, as much as that pained him. So, after about an hour of work on his Charms coursework he finally left the common room and headed down to the Great Hall for a spot of lunch.

Lunch was, well it was fine, not thrilling but fine. He settled for a turkey sandwich and some chips. He wasn't really concerned with what he was eating, he really just wanted to get out there and have fun in the snow. Even still, he had even more work to do. Sighing discontentedly, he set off for the Prefect's Office, the last place he wanted to be. He really wanted to live up to the title he had been given but the more time he spent doing it, the more he disliked it. It really wasn't for him. He didn't like sneaking around and busting people for breaking the rules. It also felt hypocritical because, for the most part, he was busting people for things he himself had done in the past (or, if he was honest, still did). So off he went to the office to finish a couple of write-ups on detentions that he'd given out in the past two weeks. What a thrill it was.

Finally, his work was done and he could go outside. He set off at a brisk pace through the castle, not wanting to run but unable to contain his excitement and walk normally. After a couple of moments, he was finally outside and it was glorious. There was snow everywhere and it was one of the most beautiful sights he'd ever seen. He started wandering aimlessly throughout the grounds, going wherever his spirit took him. It was absolutely wonderful and he could've stayed out here all day. In celebration of this glorious snowy day and lack of classes, he'd worn some nice muggle clothing that captured his spirit. He was wearing a pair of black boots, black sweatpants, his Boston Bruins hoodie, a yellow scarf, and a black winter cap. It was a bit goffik for him but he'd certainly be visible. He didn't feel cold at all, to the contrary, it was brisk and nice to him. Kalle, however, was not into the snow at all, he was still curled up by the common room fireplace.

Finally, he made it down to the lake. It was almost empty except for one lone figure. He recognized her from June's detention last year, he was pretty sure her name was Monica. And she was playing... hockey it was too perfect. It was just like being back home when he was younger, playing down at the park. He went over to the same pile Monica had gotten her gear from. He found a stick of suitable height that would do the job and allowed himself to glide onto the ice. What a wonderful feeling. He pulled up a little short of Monica before greeting her, "Room for one more?"

The wind wizzed through her hair, the cold nipping at her ears, her only focus was the make-shift goal lay before her. She could hear the crowd cheering her on! Her 'opponents' were falling behind her, not able to keep up with her speed. In truth she would have been much faster with skates, but her speed was still impressive though she only wore boots.

She swerved out of the way of on coming, imaginary barriers, jumping over fallen enemies. Finally she got to the net. it was just her and the goalie. Her eyes narrowed, she raised back her stick, ready to blast the puck forward when!

"Room for one more?"

That voice! It broke through her perfectly constructed game, smashing reality into her fantasy... she let her stick go, launching the rock far to the left, chipping the stick on the ice a bit. Luckily not cracking the ice at all, that would have been quite dangerous.

Monica turned to see who had caught her in her own world, how long had they been watching before interjecting themselves? She recognized the boy, seen him around the castle, but his name escaped her... wait... the boy from the, DETENTION.

Monica grasped some composure, facing this Ravenclaw straight on, she could admit she knew next to nothing about him, and weighing all her opinions on one ridiculous day was quite unfair, plus who was she to deny someone challenge her in a shoot-off? Monica leaned on her stick, in a way proven how well she had picked it out, holding her weight with great strength like a real hockey stick would, she smiled at the boy, "I didn't realize I had an audience...you play?" Of course she couldn't just let anyone join her, if he wanted to play hockey too, he had to prove he was a worthy competitor.
