Tired.

She was so very, very tired. She hadn't slept last night. She can't really remember much, if she's being completely honest. Her body was on autopilot as her mind shut down. But the tiredness in her eyes and the heaviness of her limbs told her that she hadn't gotten much sleep last night. She just wanted to be left alone. Eloise had offered to sit with her on the train ride home, but she declined, despite knowing that her older sister needed as much support as Adelaide did right now. But Adelaide couldn't give her it. Eloise would have to rely on the comfort of her friends until they arrived at home. Even Ivy had offered to sit with her, but she declined the older girl too. She just needed some space. Space before she want back to the home that didn't really seem like home anymore, not with him gone. Adelaide didn't want to go back there. But she knew she had to.

Thankfully, she had found an empty compartment to sit in. Hopefully she looked as horrible as she felt, hopefully no one would join her. She wanted to be left alone. The Ravenclaw didn't even have the energy to dress up this morning. She'd thrown on a hoodie and sweatpants, and she didn't even have the energy to do her hair - so, in short, she looked dreadful. And she definitely didn't look approachable. There was no huge smile on her face telling people to sit in her compartment. There was just a vacant, faraway look in her eyes. As if she was here, but not.

She'd set her trunk down and taken a seat opposite, lifting her legs up so she could wrap her arms around her knees and set her chin atop them. Her cat, Nina, had jumped up onto the seat beside her, snuggling close to the girl as if the cat could sense Adelaide needed comfort. She was curled into as tight of a ball as she could possibly be, as if that would shield her from the world and everything in it. All she wanted right now was a time turner to undo everything that had just happened within the last 48 hours. It was still unbelievable to her, and half of her couldn't accept that it was real. A silly, childish part of her thought it was some sick prank, because her father couldn't actually be dead. He couldn't.

Children grow up thinking their parents are immortal, and then one day it all inevitably comes crashing down. Sometimes way too soon. Adelaide turned her gaze to the window, staring blankly at the scenery without actually seeing it. Her face was so vacant she may as well have been a corpse.

Merry Christmas to me, she thought bitterly.
