Hot Chocolate and Cold News
@Dorion Anderson
It felt like forever since they’d gotten to hang out. Like really hang out. Not just eating together in the great hall, or the brief talks in the halls or the times they could work together as partners for class. And no he also didn’t count things like going to see their duels to cheer them on or similar events, not when they weren’t even close enough for it to qualify as hanging out.
So this? After how busy Dorion, and reluctantly so, he himself had seemed to be recently…
This was nice.
It was also cold. Not a bad cold, but definitely chilly. He wouldn’t be surprised if it started snowing soon in fact, so as far as food went he was glad they’d gotten some hot chocolate in a thermos for their picnic. Said food and drink helpfully hid away in his satchel. The blanket however was not, currently wrapped around the Gryffindor who looked undeniably pleased with himself as a burst of cold wind tore past. It was a large blanket, one that looked quite silly the way they’d had to continuously wrap it around the Gryffindor just to avoid it dragging against the floor and tripping the lazy boy, for both knew he would not be able to get back up if he did.
Alas, he was not heartless and very kindly offered part of the blanket to Creampuff, if only to be less dragged down by its weight. If they had accepted, said sharing would result in the hilarious sight of Elsian spinning away in tiny steps as they, for lack of better word, unrolled the boy from his cozy confines.
Draped over both of their shoulders, with the bit of space between them made the blanket much easier to carry. The corner of his flapped in the wind like a crazed bird's wing, he fiddled with it, wincing when wrapping his hand in the blanket did nothing to warm ice cold hands. He’d forgotten his gloves of course, the one thing that didn’t do well in the cold. His hands; they'd immediately turned to ice upon meeting the cold air for more than 10 seconds. Hopefully hot chocolate would help with that but until then he grumbled, bringing up his hands to breath warmth into his palms and cover his nose from the chill nipping at his nose. “I forgot my gloves.” He whined with a huff, already dragging more of the blanket to himself as they walked to his spot. Or rather their spot. He had promised Dorion could use his spot whenever they liked after all.
He bumped into Dorion's side obnoxiously, waving his hand at them. His left hand clutched the blanket firmly, refusing to let his side of it drag on the ground as they neared their spot. Just a bit further. “Dorito it hurts, hold my hand.” He whined, and as if to prove his point pressed ice-cold fingers to their neck where it was sure to be a shock. Fighting back a snicker as he wiggles his fingers.

@Elsian Cox
Elsi had been one of Dori's first friends at Hogwarts. Someone that they regrettably so had shaken a book at and screamed at in the hallways. Somehow he stuck by them. Through every breakdown, questionable hair decision, and questionable student decisions he was always there. Sometimes was he sleeping under a tree? Yeah, but at least that made him easy to find. He was reliable, snarky, but kind. Whiny, a pain in their butt, but thoughtful. No matter how little they talked through certain parts of their student career, they would gravitate back to each other like magnets snapping into place.
Much to Dori's delight and Elsi's reluctance they had planned a winter picnic. The chill in the wind invigorated them, and they had blankets so it was whatever. Elsi would live. Hopefully. Dori was bundled up just about as much as they could be while still being able to move freely. Some comfortable fleece lined leggings, a sweatshirt underneath a heft jacket, gloves, hat, scarf, extras for Elsi because it wouldn't be the first time he forgot his gloves. Like the time that he definitely didn't forget their name.
Dori was keen to let Elsi drag the blanket by himself, struggling and stumbling until their destined destination, but they were too kind for that. Gratefully accepting the blanket against the cold chill. "Elsi, I-" They held back a snort before breaking into giggles as he unrolled himself to give Dori some of the blanket. "I give it a six out of ten. Your footwork could use work." Their gloved hand gripped their corner and tugged it tight to try and keep them close and sheltered against the wind.
Ah, the complaining had begun. Dori rolled their eyes, of course he forgot his gloves when it was terribly wintry and at least a little freezing out. With one hand gripped on the blanket, their other hand was left to attempt to grab the gloves they had brought in their tote bag that inconveniently was on the opposite side of the freehand. "I'm working on it brownie bite!" They 'hmmphed' and attempted to pull some of the blanket back. They did it as a goof, but they didn't want Elsi over burdening himself with too much of the blanket and falling over because then they would be having the picnic wherever he landed.
They let out a screech when Elsi's ice cold fingers touched their neck. They crunched their head down, possibly trapping Elsi's fingers there if he wasn't quick enough to retreat. "Get them off! Get them off!" Once the assaulting fingers were removed Dori would move the blanket from their hand to being held between their teeth as they wrangled gloves onto Elsi. "I can't believe you did that to me!" After they were situated, their hand still found itself in his. A little extra warmth never hurt, and they gave his a little squeeze.
These were the moments they missed. Everything felt so comfortable with Elsi. Light, easy. Especially compared to the stress of wizard school. They really did always orbit around each other, to end up back with each other. It was their cycle. But they miss him more often than not these days. "We should do this more. I really miss you lately." Their shoulder bumped purposefully against his, continuing to look forward towards their destination.

Elsi gasped, hand holding his corner of the blanket flying to his lips, “only 6? Why I never-!” He made a show of huffing and turning his nose up at them as much as he could now that he was stuck near the other sharing the blanket, “I’ll have you know my footwork was impeccable just now.”
Amazing really. Obviously, Creampuff didn’t know talent when they saw it! “Yeah, but you're working on it slow Creampuff!” He whined, just to annoy the other as he pressed his fingers to the others neck with a self satisfied grin…then Dorion crunched their neck over his fingers and he screeched, flailing his hand halfheartedly from its confines and only screeching louder when Dori magically brought out gloves his side and promptly tried to manhandle the things on!
“Says the one doing the manhandling,” he shot back, voice turning into a dramatic simper, “what sort of company are you keeping nowadays? The Creampuff I knew would never put gloves on me so indelicately! They’d know I’m a delicate flower.” His hand holding the blanket went to his face, dabbing away a fake tear even as he began swinging the two’s hands in the obnoxious way he always tended to. “I don’t even know you anymore-!”
Still, he supposed he could forgive the other. His hands were indeed no longer ice, all could be forgiven this time. He squeezed back, swinging their arms a bit more aggressively like the overgrown child he was, “I am pretty great,” he said sagely. He bumped back against the other, leaning his weight a bit more heavily on the Hufflepuff grinning, “we can.” He began mischievously, “during class! Let's skip next week.”
Any refusal or rebuttal would be met with more whining and the words-
“They're trying to keep us apart, Creampuff! They just know we’d be too powerful if you were also a delinquent.”
But despite the teasing remarks and nagging Elsian felt the same. He was pretty sure Dorion knew it too. They were good at understanding him, always had been. Straightening up, he settled his weight fully on his own 2 feet, squeezing their hand one more time as they came to their spot, “I miss you too though. I’ll try getting up earlier so we can eat breakfast together or something.” The boy had, after all, been guilty of sleeping in and sometimes missing breakfast. Luckily he had friends who took pity on him and snuck him food they’d grabbed on the way to first period.
But they’d always been more busy than him. Busier, more responsibilities, probably had a lot of people to split time between too, it was no wonder they were always tired or too busy for him. Granted, they could probably solve both problems if Dori just took more naps with Elsian. Less tired AND a perfect pastime for them both to hang out! Elsian stood by the fact the world, and people in general, would be a happier place if people just took more naps.
Letting go of the other’s hand he gently tugged the blanket from them as they stopped by their spot. Dori would probably be able to take a guess at what he was about to do as Elsian aggressively threw the side he took around him, once again cocooning him.
“My time has come.” He said solemnly, and promptly struggled to his knees before falling over onto the cold ground. But that tiny painful flop would not stop the Gryffindor for long! For he had a job to do. And in a manner that was clearly practiced and possibly the laziest and roundabout way one could, began rolling himself and in return the blanket, out on the ground.
He was, perhaps not unsurprisingly, very good at his single job during picnics.
It wasn’t until there was only enough blanket to halfway drape over his side from his sideways sprawl on the ground atop the blanket that he stopped rolling. “Impressive I know.” He deadpanned, striking a pose, “what do you think of my blanket rolling skills Creampuff?”
